Joyce Elaine Lawrence, 83, went on to be with the Lord on Monday, July 6, 2020 at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Joyce was born on May 8, 1937 to William “Bill” and Genevieve Waldron in Alliance, Nebraska. She was the oldest of four siblings, Steve (Sandy) Waldron, John (Susan) Waldron,&nbsp; Judy (Larry) DeWeese.

She married the love of her life, Dale Lawrence on July 17, 1957 in San Diego, California where they lived in a small one room apartment while Dale served in the Navy. From their union they had three children: Michael (Laura) Lawrence of Lincoln, NE, Laurie (Clayton) Tomjack of Wahoo, NE, David (Paula) Lawrence of Columbus, NE.

Joyce was employed at Alliance Public Schools for 22 years as a lunch lady.

Joyce loved cheering on Husker athletics, no matter what sport it was, sending cards to all of her family and friends, winning games of Skip-Bo, and her grandchildren: Katie, William, Jenna, Matthew, Nathan, Kelsey, Kristen and Alex. Christmas was her favorite holiday of which she celebrated year-round. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren with gifts and decorating for the season.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m.&nbsp; at the First Presbyterian Church in Alliance with Reverend Jay Kim officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Bates-Gould Chapel on Friday, July 10 from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Stephanie Dawn (Madsen) Konopnicki, 68, lost her battle with cancer and went to her Heavenly home on July 3, 2020 at her home in Alliance surrounded by her family.&nbsp; She fought with unwavering strength and incredible bravery.

Stephanie was born on November 23, 1951 in Chadron, NE to Lawrence and Ulala (Hanna) Madsen.&nbsp; She was the oldest of 3 siblings.&nbsp; She was raised in Chadron and spent a lot of time at her family (Hanna) ranch in Seneca, NE.&nbsp;

She married the love of her life, AlDee Konopnicki on March 1, 1980 in Edgemont, SD.&nbsp; She was the mother of 5 children and 2 step-children.

Stephanie loved to paint. Her house is filled with her paintings.&nbsp; She also loved gardening. At one time in her life she had a massive garden and flowers everywhere.&nbsp; Stephanie worked a few jobs outside of the home but was mainly a mother and homemaker.&nbsp; After her children were grown and married Stephanie loved taking care of her grandchildren.&nbsp; They were her pride and joy, and she never complained once about caring for them.&nbsp; She watched 7 grandchildren every day after school and throughout the summers.&nbsp; She also cherished and loved many of her grandkids friends and always made them feel like her own.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children, Alexa Lucas, Vanessa (Jeff) Nepper, Jessica (Phillip) Caudell and Nicholas Konopnicki all of Alliance.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brother, Mark Madsen of Chadron and many grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jed Madsen, her daughter, Tangela Konopnicki, her husband, AlDee and her grandson, Darren Konopnicki.&nbsp;

Stephanie Dawn (Madsen) Konopnicki (1951 - 2020)

Patrick Louis Moser was born in Tilden, Nebraska on July 7th,1951 to Louis George Moser and Mae Ruth Spieker Moser. He died at the age of 68 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home with his family in Hemingford, Nebraska on July 3rd, 2020.

Pat spent his early childhood on a farm in eastern Nebraska until his family moved to Denver, CO at the age of five. He attended Mt. Carmel High School and graduated in 1969 from Meritt Hutton High School in Denver. The following year he volunteered for the United States Army. He served as a special forces medic with Special Forces Group 7 out of Fort Bragg, NC. During his time in the military, he also earned his Airborne and Ranger tabs. Shortly after returning from the army in 1972, his lifelong romance with Peggy Lee Garner Moser began and they were married in 1974. Pat’s work with Burlington Northern Railroad moved the young couple to Hemingford, Nebraska where they would remain and raise their four children.&nbsp;

Pat was committed to hard work and excellence for his many years as a BNSF machinist. He served as a dedicated firefighter and EMT on the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department. He was a devoted member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, serving on the Parish Council and teaching religious education classes. He enjoyed playing on the Redwood Shed softball team during his early years in Hemingford. Pat’s love of learning led to many interests throughout his life: motorcycles, gardening, karate, woodworking, outdoor adventures and guitar. His loyalty, resourcefulness, helpful hands, generosity, and sense of humor were evident to those around him. Above all, he was deeply committed to his wife and family. Pat will be remembered for all these things, but perhaps his quiet confidence and steadfast love of Jesus were his greatest gift to us. Whether taking his children camping or helping a neighbor, Pat’s devotion to God laid the foundation to live honorably and love those around him in word and deed. His life brought laughter, stability, and a sense of strength to those fortunate enough to love him. He was, indeed, a noble man.

Patrick was preceded in death by his father, Louis Moser; his mother, Mae Spieker Moser; and three infant brothers. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his sisters, Pam Moser of Denver, CO; and Joyce (Bob) Forch of Stratton, NE; his daughters, Sarah (Carson) Bell of Nashville, TN; Ann (Richard) Lorenzo of Lawrence, KS; Mary (Matt) Garman of Los Angeles, CA; his son, Luke Moser of San Diego, CA; his nine grandchildren; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and beloved neighbors.

A private, family service will be held for Patrick on Thursday, July 9th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Hemingford with Father Tim Stoner officiating. &nbsp;An open, public memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Hemingford Cemetery following the family service. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family requests honoring those restrictions and practicing social distancing at the cemetery.&nbsp;

Linda Pierce, age 72, passed away June 27th, 2020 in Ogallala, Ne while visiting family. She was born to Milford and Alice (Hammer) Pierce on May 11, 1948. She was one of 17 children. Linda really enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her great grandkids. She loved watching Thomas the Train, Paw Patrol and any other cartoons they liked to watch. She also enjoyed&nbsp;watching the Hallmark channel Christmas movies all year round. She loved&nbsp;cooking the best big family breakfast. Her other favorite hobbies were going to Bingo and casinos with her friends and family. She loved to argue with us&nbsp; about every little thing but always had a way to make us laugh. She will be dearly missed for her antics and her unbelievable cooking.&nbsp;

Steven R. Oliver, 42, died Friday, June 19, 2020 at Box Butte General Hospital.

He was born August 18, 1977 in Douglas, Wyoming to Chester M. and Debra E. (Fleck) Oliver.

Steven truly lived life to the fullest, in every way possible. He loved to spend time with family and friends. He also enjoyed going fishing, shooting guns, and being the life of the party, literally. He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steeler fan.&nbsp; He had a huge love for babies, kids, and little kitties. We could always tell when Steven was around, the babies’ cheeks were always red and chapped from being sucked on by “Uncle Stebe” and the kitties heads would be stiff and spiked from him. Steven never met a stranger; he wore his heart on his sleeve. He loved everyone from every walk of life. He will be remembered by all as a loving son, brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his mother, Debra (Fleck) Lindburg of Alliance; his father, Chester “Chet” Oliver of Newcastle, WY; and his sisters, Amber (Forrest) Benge and Kassidy Oliver, all of Alliance.&nbsp; He is also survived by his niece, Whitney (Matt) Pinneo of Alliance; his nephews, Derek Morrison, Tyler Johnson and Kenadi Rising, all of Alliance and Trevor Benge and Tanner Benge of Kearney, NE; his great niece, Tinlee Morrison of Alliance; his great nephew, Kaysen Pinneo of Alliance; and his grandmother, LaQuetta Oliver of Guernsey, WY.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Charles Oliver and his good friend, Marty Wilson.

Steven R. Oliver (1977 - 2020)

Darrel J. Annen passed away on Father’s Day, June 21, 2020 peacefully with his family by his side at the Hemingford Community Care Center.&nbsp; He was born on October 16,1936 to John and Gertie (Summers) Annen.

He joined the Army on February 7, 1956 and to his dismay, he was assigned to the “Grand Old Guard,” instead of heavy equipment.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged on February 6, 1958.&nbsp; He married Janice Bussen on September 19, 1959 and to this union were born John and Lori.&nbsp; Darrel was a wheat farmer and raised sheep for many years south of Hemingford with his family.&nbsp; In the early 1980’s he moved his family to west of Hemingford where his father and mother had lived raising wheat, corn and beans.&nbsp; He had belonged to the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department in his younger years.&nbsp; He was also a board member of Farmer’s Co-op.&nbsp; He would lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was always willing to braid a rope that same night for someone that needed a pull.&nbsp;

Darrel will be greatly missed by his son John (Carolyn), daughter Lori; grandkids and great grandkids, Melissa Annen ~Kinzee, Madison and Payton Swanson; Mandy (Kyle) Brice ~ Randie and Aiden Brice; Ryan (Katie) Dannar ~ Branson, Declan and Quinn Dannar.&nbsp; Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive him.

He is at peace in the presence of his family which has gone before him including his mother, father, an infant child; sisters Ruth, Margaret and Gladys and brother Darwin, son-in-law Randy Dannar and an infant great grandchild Jake.

Per his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.&nbsp; He will be laid to rest with his wife in a private ceremony at a later date.&nbsp; Memorials may be sent to the family at&nbsp;PO Box 523; Hemingford, NE&nbsp; 69348.&nbsp; The memorials will be divided between the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department, Hemingford Community Care Center and Regional West Hospice.

Annen passed away on Father’s Day, June 21, 2020 peacefully with his family by his side at the Hemingford Community Care Center.&nbsp; He was born on October 16,1936 to John and Gertie (Summers) Annen.He joined the Army on February 7, 1956 and to his dismay, he was assigned to the “Grand Old Guard,” instead of heavy equipment.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged on February 6, 1958.&nbsp; He married Janice Bussen on September 19, 1959 and to this union were born John and Lori.&nbsp; Darrel was a wheat farmer and raised sheep for many years south of Hemingford with his family.&nbsp; In the early 1980’s he moved his family to west of Hemingford where his father and mother had lived raising wheat, corn and beans.&nbsp; He had belonged to the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department in his younger years.&nbsp; He was also a board member of Farmer’s Co-op.&nbsp; He would lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was always willing to braid a rope that same night for someone that needed a pull.&nbsp;Darrel will be greatly missed by his son John (Carolyn), daughter Lori; grandkids and great grandkids, Melissa Annen ~Kinzee, Madison and Payton Swanson; Mandy (Kyle) Brice ~ Randie and Aiden Brice; Ryan (Katie) Dannar ~ Branson, Declan and Quinn Dannar.&nbsp; Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive him.He is at peace in the presence of his family which has gone before him including his mother, father, an infant child; sisters Ruth, Margaret and Gladys and brother Darwin, son-in-law Randy Dannar and an infant great grandchild Jake.Per his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.&nbsp; He will be laid to rest with his wife in a private ceremony at a later date.&nbsp; Memorials may be sent to the family at&nbsp;PO Box 523; Hemingford, NE&nbsp; 69348.&nbsp; The memorials will be divided between the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department, Hemingford Community Care Center and Regional West Hospice.Online condolences may be left at www.batesgould.com

A memorial service for Zachary Allen Hrasky, age 38, of Scottsbluff, who died June 19th, 2020, will be held at the Weborg 21 Centre on the Scottsbluff Gering Highway at 2:00pm on Thursday, June 25th, officiated by Pastor Bob Haverick. Inurnment will be at Mitchell City Cemetery.

Zachary was born July 13th, 1981 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Timothy Allen Hrasky and Brenda Schlager. He received his education from the Gering Public Schools. He married Mckenna Jessen, and to this union were born two children, Dillon and Madi Edens. He was also blessed to have another child, Oaklynn Elizabeth Hrasky, and he loved his children greatly. His fiancé, Shauna Reagan, and her son, Skyler, were well beloved by him.

He drove truck for B Squared Farming and Trucking. His passions were music, trucks, and barbecuing—he was a great cook. Zachary lived life to its fullest, and when he loved you, you knew it.

Survivors include his fiancé, Shauna, and her son, Skyler; children, Dillon, Madi, and Oaklynn; siblings, Andrew Hrasky, Ian Hrasky, Logan Baxter, and Haley Baxter; mother, Brenda; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.

When he wasn’t farming, Tom enjoyed reading his Bible, fishing, and taking care of his cows. Thomas L. Mauler (1942 - 2020)

Florence Julia Gonzalez, 73, of Scottsbluff, formerly of Alliance, passed away at her home Friday, June 19, 2020, with her family by her side. Florence was born on May 16, 1947, in Taos, New Mexico, to Eloy Jaramillo and Dolores Rojas. She graduated from Hemingford High School in 1965.Throughout her life, Florence was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family.

She loved reading and gardening and was an amazing cook. She was also always interested in following the business industry. She especially enjoyed traveling with her husband, the late Ralph Gonzalez Sr., when he performed throughout the year with various bands, including the Brown Sugar band, at cities in a number of states. Ralph was well known as one of the region’s best saxophone players.

Florence took great pride in her hometown of Taos, and she was proud to be related to Kit Carson and Charles Bent, who became the first civilian governor of New Mexico in 1846. Florence’s great aunt, Josefa Jaramillo, was married to Carson, and Josefa’s sister, Maria Jaramillo, was married to Bent.

Florence is survived by her four children: Ralph Gonzalez Jr. of Omaha; Julianne (Jeff) Fielder of Scottsbluff; Jill Gonzalez of Casper, Wyo.; and Spencer (Herlinda) Gonzalez of Scottsbluff; sisters Julie Sutherland and Josie Rojas both of Kearney, and brother Ernest Jaramillo of Gering; grandchildren Kevin and Brent Galinsky both of Alliance, Stephanie and Zachary Fielder both of Scottsbluff, and Graycen S. Gonzalez of Scottsbluff; great grandchildren Michael, Kaylea, Carley, and Dalton Galinsky; and numerous extended family members.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Gonzalez Sr., parents; sister Dorothy Bradis; and granddaughter Ashley Fielder.

Visitation for immediate family members will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020 from 9 AM until 11 AM at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with a private funeral service to follow officiating by Father Vince Parsons. Florence Julia Gonzalez (1947 - 2020)

Martha Christina “Tina” Freiberger, 92, went on to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 18, 2020, at home surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Tina was born on December 26, 1927 to Gust and Mary Ellen (Cooper) Peterson at Antioch, Nebraska. The names of her siblings are Frank Peterson, Margaret Nelson, George Peterson and Mary Ellen Reynolds. The family lived and worked happily alongside each other on the Gust Peterson Sandhills ranch.

Tina and her brother Frank began their education in a small, two-student school located in the Sod-house built by her dad on the land he homesteaded. She went on to attend and graduate from Alliance High School in 1944. At the time, she was the youngest to ever graduate from AHS at the age of sixteen.

Tina met John Henry Freiberger when he came to work on her parents' ranch. They married on December 19, 1948 and had 4 children: Carolyn (Don Godwin), Peggy (John Sampson), Linda (Jim Wodke) and Don (Vic Odell). Tina's greatest pride and joy was her family. She often boasted in her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren that number eight-six total and counting.

John and Tina never knew a stranger. Everyone was welcome at their table and in their hearts. John and Tina ranched in the Sandhills outside of Alliance until their retirement in 2010. They were also active members of the community and the First Christian Church of Alliance, Ne. Tina enjoyed being head of the kitchen crew at their church, teaching Sunday School, and organizing the “Jesus And Me” afterschool program with Marge Thompson. The “JAM” program attracted over 150 children every Wednesday after school. The kids sang songs, had Bible lessons, made crafts and enjoyed tasty cookies; all with the goal of getting to know Jesus better. Tina was also a 4-H leader for 25 years and a Board Member for the County School District 158. She loved to play piano and accordion. Her family and friends will always remember her as a wonderful Mother, homemaker, and rancher's wife!

An informal graveside service will be held in honor of our mother, Tina Freiberger, at the Alliance Cemetery on June 26th at 2pm. There will be a viewing on June 25th at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home from 1-7pm. The family will be present at the viewing from 4-6pm. We understand that COVID-19 may limit the attendance of loved ones. In light of this, we have created a Facebook Group under the name, “Tina Freiberger Memorial,” for all those who cannot attend in person. Robert Jean Jenkins, 84, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, June 18, 2020.

He was born May 26, 1936 in Gordon, Nebraska to Jean Otto and Dorothy (Beckman) Jenkins.&nbsp; In 1954 he joined the Marine Corp.&nbsp; In 1956 he was honorably discharged as a Tractor Mechanic Tank Crewman following an injury during the Korean War.

He married the love of his life, Beryl M. Peters on September 4, 1962.&nbsp; Following their marriage they moved from Tulsa, OK to Springfield, OR where he worked as an airplane body repairman and where they had their only daughter, Jana Michal.&nbsp; Soon thereafter they moved back to the Gordon area where Bob could pursue his love of farming.&nbsp; A son was born to them in Gordon, Keith Robert.&nbsp; Bob owned a hay grinding business where he kept busy in the winter time when he wasn’t farming.&nbsp; They later moved closer to the Hemingford area.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 9 in Hemingford.&nbsp; Bob knew a lot of people and had many life-long friends.&nbsp; He would easily have some story to tell.&nbsp; Family was always important to him and he never complained.&nbsp; He was a diehard Marine.&nbsp; He enjoyed collecting guns, farm equipment miniatures and building intricate town and country buildings for small scale train yards and towns.&nbsp; He was easy to love and will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Beryl Jenkins of Hemingford; his children, Jana (Shaun) Werkele of Wheatland, WY, Keith Jenkins of Hemingford, Michael Barnett of Bac Lieu, Vietnam and Steven Barnett of Wasilla, AK; his grandchildren, Kalen Willson of Hemingford and Jacey Willson of Wichita, KS; and his great-granddaughter, Arya Grieser of Alliance.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim Jenkins.

Family graveside memorial services with military rites will be held at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance.

Robert Jean Jenkins (1936 - 2020)

Odessa Lorena Elwood, 96, of Batesland, SD, died June 19, 2020, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, NE.

Odessa was born March 17, 1924 in Milltown, SD, to Helge and Sarah Kruse. As a young girl she moved with her family to a farm west of Batesland. She attended rural schools in Shannon County, graduating from Batesland High School.

In 1941 Odessa met the love of her life, Wesley Elwood. They were married at Rushville, NE, on September 21, 1942. Four children were born to this union, Virginia, Daniel, Kathleen and Barbara. Their marriage was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Odessa was active in the community; 4-H Leader, County Extension, Busy Bees, Farmers Union and numerous card clubs. She especially enjoyed the Capitol Ladies Organization during the 8 years Wesley was a legislator in Pierre.

The flowers and the yard around her home were a great source of satisfaction and joy. She made afghans for her grandkid’s graduations and friends. She shared her love for music with family and friends, playing the organ, harmonica, accordion and singing and yodeling. When Odessa was in her 70s, she started painting and even sold a few of them.

She greeted everyone with open arms, a friendly smile, and everyone found the door open to them with a place at the table. The coffee pot was always on.

She always made her grandkids feel so special and loved. They have fond memories of Easter basket hunts, Schwan’s ice cream and the candy drawer.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Virginia &amp; Art Terkildsen of San Jose, CA, son and daughter-in-law Dan &amp; Carolyn Elwood of Ft. Pierre, daughter and son-in-law Kathy &amp; Bob Zickrick of Long Valley, and daughter Barb Elwood of Martin, SD, 12 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Odessa was preceded in death by her husband Wesley.

Graveside Services will be held Friday June 26, 2020 at the Gordon Cemetery, 11:00 AM. A memorial has been established and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.

She attended rural schools in Shannon County, graduating from Batesland High School.In 1941 Odessa met the love of her life, Wesley Elwood. They were married at Rushville, NE, on September 21, 1942. Four children were born to this union, Virginia, Daniel, Kathleen and Barbara. Their marriage was an inspiration to all who knew them.Odessa was active in the community; 4-H Leader, County Extension, Busy Bees, Farmers Union and numerous card clubs. She especially enjoyed the Capitol Ladies Organization during the 8 years Wesley was a legislator in Pierre.The flowers and the yard around her home were a great source of satisfaction and joy. She made afghans for her grandkid’s graduations and friends. She shared her love for music with family and friends, playing the organ, harmonica, accordion and singing and yodeling. When Odessa was in her 70s, she started painting and even sold a few of them.She greeted everyone with open arms, a friendly smile, and everyone found the door open to them with a place at the table. The coffee pot was always on.She always made her grandkids feel so special and loved. They have fond memories of Easter basket hunts, Schwan’s ice cream and the candy drawer.Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Virginia &amp; Art Terkildsen of San Jose, CA, son and daughter-in-law Dan &amp; Carolyn Elwood of Ft. Pierre, daughter and son-in-law Kathy &amp; Bob Zickrick of Long Valley, and daughter Barb Elwood of Martin, SD, 12 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.Odessa was preceded in death by her husband Wesley.Graveside Services will be held Friday June 26, 2020 at the Gordon Cemetery, 11:00 AM. Odessa Lorena Elwood (1924 - 2020)

Blayne Beguin, a charming man with a mega watt smile and twinkling blue eyes was born October 14, 1934 on the Beguin ranch twenty miles south of Rushville, Nebraska to Henry and Agnes Beguin. He was the second of four ornery boys.

Blayne rode a horse to a one room country school through eighth grade, and then attended Rushville High School where he was an athlete, playing three sports, and winning a gold medal at state track. He completed one year of veterinary school, but left school when his dad had a heart attack and Blayne was needed to run the ranch. He returned home because his older brother was in Korea and the younger two were still in school.

He married Myrna Peters and they had four children, Candie, Roxie, Angie and Rex. After Myrna passed Blayne married Judy Berryman and she had two sons, Kirk and Craig, whom he adopted. Later the couple had a son, Cody. Blayne and Judy would have celebrated their 50th anniversary next month.

He loved rodeos whether he was competing, judging, or mentoring aspiring cowboys. When he was younger, he rode rough stock and steer wrestled until his brother returned from the service. They ran the ranch together and were renowned team ropers, known as the Beguin Boys. They hit every jackpot rodeo in the area continuing to compete at old timers rodeos.

While his life was never an easy one, he was a man who loved his home and his family. There was no limit to what he would do for others. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life. Blayne was proud of every single one of their accomplishments, yelling for them in his booming voice. He cared about kids at the school, whether they were an athlete, a speech kid, in the one act play, a kid who needed help reading or someone who just needed a kick in the ass.

Blayne Beguin, was the embodiment of a true cowboy, whether it was the cowboy who ranched, worked cattle, and broke horses or the rodeo cowboy who loved the competition in the arena. At eighty-one he still mounted a horse at the Fun Days Rodeo. (An annual rodeo he started in 1951 with some buddies). He thought he could at least flag, though he was secretly planning on team roping. An example of just how deep his cowboy blood runs is when his home caught on fire, he searched through the carnage hoping to find his hats, boots, or belt buckles.

Blayne was preceded in death by his parents, Hank and Aggie, first wife Myrna, and his brother Blake. He is survived by his brothers Jerry and Perry Beguin, his wife Judy Beguin, his children Candie (Doug) Johnson, Roxie (Mike) Reetz, Kirk (Heidi) Beguin, Angie (Gary) Hoagland, Craig (Lori) Beguin, Rex Beguin and Cody (Amy) Beguin and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored him.

If you could ask anyone who knew him what comes to mind when they think of Blayne Beguin, they will say a husband, a father, a grandpa, a cowboy, a bright man, a reader, a writer, a witty man with a one-liner for just about any circumstance and most importantly a compassionate man.

A Vigil Service will be held Thursday June 18, 2020, 7:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rushville, Nebraska, and a Mass Service will be held Friday June 19, 2020, 10:00 AM. Richard “Rich” DeHaven, 90 of Chadron, died Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Heritage HealthCare in Gering. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chadron with Father Todd Philipsen officiating. Rich was born on January 3, 1930 in Crawford to Dell and Frances (Hill) DeHaven. Rich spent his early years in Wyoming while his dad worked for the roads department. The family eventually settled in Harrison, where he graduated from Harrison High School in 1947. Rich enjoyed business and fraternal affiliations, serving as Vice President of the Nebraska Propane Gas Association and Exalted Ruler of the Chadron Elks. As much as Rich enjoyed the relationships he developed in business, he cherished, and was humbled by, the many requests to be a pallbearer at his friends’ funerals. Rich met the love of his life Rita (Jordan) while they were in school, married on May 8, 1951, and they were together for the rest of his life. They lived on the DeHaven place north of Harrison for five years. It was during this time when the girls, Chris, Cherie, and Janet, were born. The family moved to Crawford for three years and then Rich and his brother-in-law Bob Powell purchased Pioneer Skelgas in Chadron where they settled and welcomed Alan to the family. After Bob’s untimely death, Rich continued to operate the business with his sister Ellen for 34 more years. Rich enjoyed many adventures in life. Hunting and fishing trips with friends and family, trips to New England to see the fall colors and Niagara Falls were some of his favorites. Rich’s greatest joy in life was closer to home, at Angostura Reservoir. Rich and Rita set up a mobile home on a patch of gumbo in 1968 in what was to become Long’s Resort. He enjoyed countless hours on the water at Angostura. It was here where he pursued his passion for boating, fishing, teaching his children and grandchildren to fish and ski and pulling anyone and everyone who wanted to ski. Rich is survived by his loving wife Rita, his sister-in-law Shirley Phipps of Glenrock, daughters Chris (Phil) Reid of Naples, FL, Cherie (Mike) Coffee of Minneapolis, MN, Janet (Dan) Dailey of Bayard, and son Alan (Jana) DeHaven of Scottsbluff, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dale and sister Ellen Powell.

Richard “Rich” DeHaven (1930 - 2020

Helen June Brennan passed away at Highland Park Care Center on June 8, 2020.&nbsp; June was born to Derrick and Helen Dalton in Alliance, Nebraska on July 12, 1928.

In addition to her parents, June's family included an older sister, Ferrill Jean, and a younger brother, Jack.&nbsp;

June started school while the family was living in Bingham, Nebraska, and continued with family moves to Antioch and Alliance. Prior to her senior year in high school, her family moved from Alliance to Neosho, Missouri. She graduated from Neosho High School in 1946. In the fall of 1946, she enrolled at Chadron State College and attended for a semester.

In January of 1947, June took a job at Langmacher's Creamery in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; That March she attended a dance in Ellsworth where she met Jack Brennan, the "love of her life". They danced the night away and were married at the Methodist Church in Alliance on August 31, 1947. Following their marriage ceremony, they enjoyed a two- week honeymoon on the West Coast.

June and Jack began their life together on a ranch north of Ellsworth and ranched&nbsp; together for 47 years before Jack's sudden death of a heart attack in April of 1994. She remained on the ranch for another 26 years, until December 19, 2019 when she suffered a stroke and was rushed to the hospital in Alliance. On December 23, 2019, she entered Highland Park Care Center, and after five months, passed away on June 8, 2020. The family is very thankful for the excellent care provided her at the care center.

June gave her heart to the Lord at the young age of 10 and throughout her life served him faithfully. She was a member of Pleasant Point Community Church since 1958 and taught Sunday School there for 50 years.

She is survived by her four children and spouses - Carol (Clayton) Illian of McKinney, Texas; Brenda (Darryl) Reimer of Cody, Wyoming; Dan (Donna) Brennan of Ellsworth;&nbsp; Sally (Dan) Hodge of Glenrock, Wyoming. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Derrick and Helen Dalton, husband Jack, grandson Paul Brennan, sister and brother-in-law Ferrill Jean and Laverne Rice, brother Jack Dalton, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Joanne Brennan.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Point Community Church with Pastor Tom Peppel officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Pleasant Point Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Pleasant Point Community Church.

Helen June Brennan (1928 - 2020

Robert "Dale" Wood, loving husband and father of five children, passed away at the age of 80 on Friday, June 5, at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska.

Dale was born September 28, 1939, at his grandparents' home in Hemingford, Nebraska to Leonard and Bernice (Delsing) Wood.&nbsp; Upon graduation from Hemingford High School in 1957, he joined the US Marine Corps.&nbsp; On December 29, 1959, Dale was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marilyn Tinsley, and they returned to California where Dale was stationed, and when he completed his enlistment, the couple returned to Hemingford, where he began his long career in the construction business.&nbsp; Dale started out working with Jeff Traster, but soon struck out on his own, building Wood Construction into a thriving business that continues to this day.

Dale and Marilyn welcomed their first son, Robert (Bob, in 1960, followed by Sherri, Randy, Ronny, and Kimberly.&nbsp; He was a very involved father, serving as a Boy Scout Master and building scores of pinewood derby cars.&nbsp; He taught his sons how to build everything from playhouses for their sisters to actual houses for many homeowners throughout the Nebraska Panhandle.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting with his boys, cooking with his girls, and spending time on the family farm north of Hemingford.&nbsp; Family was important to Dale, which was evident as he supported his children in all of their activities.&nbsp; Later, he would become the #1 fan for his grandchildren in their endeavors, as well.&nbsp; You could always expect a smile and a joke when you met Dale on the street, and it was not unusual to find him in the kitchen, making peanut brittle, cookies, or egg rolls when he had some spare time.&nbsp; Of course, that left our mom to clean the kitchen, which she mostly did with a smile on her face.&nbsp; He was famous for his Daleburgers, which were a hit at family gatherings and other celebrations around Hemingford.&nbsp; He had a creative mind and spent hours perfecting special gifts for all of the family.

Dale is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Hemingford; sons Bob (Johnna) Wood, Randy (Jennifer) Wood, and Ronny (Terri) Wood of Hemingford; and daughters Sherri (Marty) Petersen of Alliance, and Kimberly (Lee) Davies of North Platte.&nbsp; Grandchildren are Taryn and Rindi Wood; T.J., Tad, and Troy Petersen; Nicholas and Matthew Wood; Baily Miskimins, Kelsy Sasse, and Jamey Wood; Joey and Ashlyn Casados; and Makenzie, Alex, Joshua, Justin, and Karlie Davies; and 11 great grandchildren.&nbsp; In addition, Dale is survived by his brother, Jim (Patti) Wood, sisters Betty (Louis) Sauer, Shirley (Bob) Zeiler, Mary Ann (Jerry) Tripple, Doris (Rod) Christensen, Deb (Randy) Vogel, and Carol Wood Deans; sister in law Alma Wood.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles Wood, father and mother in law Harold and Janiece Tinsley, brother in law Norman Tinsley, niece Lisa Wood, and nephew Jason Sauer.

Due to the current Coronavirus situation, funeral and wake services will be private.&nbsp; The family will receive friends for a visitation at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Hemingford, on Tuesday, June 9, from 4:00-7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, June 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the church, with Fr. Tim Stoner officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery with military honors, led by Sgt. Tate (T.J.) Petersen.&nbsp; Plans will be made for a Celebration of Life at a later date, when gathering restrictions are lifted. Memorials may be made in Dale's name to Bobcats Beating Cancer or to the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department.&nbsp;

Robert "Dale" Wood (1939 - 2020)

Alvin Barta passed away peacefully May 31, 2020 in Lincoln Nebraska. &nbsp;He was 97.&nbsp; Alvin was born at home west of Hemingford Nebraska December 30, 1922.&nbsp; His parents were Joe and Katherine Barta. &nbsp;&nbsp;It was said that his dad was picking corn the day he was born.&nbsp; He was baptized at the St<a href="about:blank">&nbsp;Wenceslas</a>&nbsp;Catholic Church which was located at the Lawn corner at that time.

Alvin attended grade school at rural District 56, driving a horse and buggy with his brother and cousins across the pastures to the school house.&nbsp; He attended Hemingford High School and graduated in 1940.

He was involved in his neighborhood 4-H club where he was the pitcher for their baseball team.&nbsp; He and his brother took their project calves to the State Fair in Lincoln Nebraska, which was a major event in those days.

In 1942, he and his good friend George Vorovka completed a course in aircraft mechanics at Morton Aircraft School in Omaha. &nbsp;They were then employed by the Curtis-Wright Corporation in Buffalo, New York where they manufactured the Curtis Warhawk, the plane designed to look like a shark.&nbsp;

Alvin was drafted into the army in 1944&nbsp;&nbsp; He was assigned to the 3067 Ordnance Service Company at Adak island in the Aleutian Islands.&nbsp; To get up there, the men rode in the cargo area of a converted fishing boat.&nbsp; The stale smell of the boat mixed in with engine oil and diesel fuel and rough seas caused most of the men to become seasick, Alvin holding out for some time before he became ill like the rest.&nbsp;&nbsp; Alvin served as a mechanic, parts manager and shop foreman.&nbsp; He had a jeep and could have all the gas he wanted but there were only about 20 miles of road on the entire island.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged October 28, 1946.

After the war, if you wanted a car, you had to put your name on a waiting list.&nbsp; After Alvin got his new Dodge in 1948, it sat in the garage for many months while he waited to dig out of the snow from the blizzard of 1949.

Alvin met his future wife at a New Year’s Eve dance at the Legion club in Hemingford. &nbsp;Their mothers had worked together in the kitchen at a church dance the night before so when Geraldine asked her mom if it would be all right if Alvin took her home, her mom told her she knew who he was.&nbsp; &nbsp;Alvin and Geraldine were married on Oct 24, 1951 at St Bridget’s Catholic Church in Hemingford.

Alvin was a lifelong farmer and rancher except for his time in the military.&nbsp; Alvin also did acreage reporting for the A.S.C.S office before and after his marriage.&nbsp; He served on the school board of District 56 and the building committee of District 62. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Alvin and Geraldine enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren and great-grands even though they lived some distance away.&nbsp;&nbsp; They also spent many Sunday afternoons fishing in the ponds and streams in the Fort Robinson area or taking their boat out on the Box Butte County Dam.

The great love of Alvin’s life was his farm.&nbsp; When he came to Lincoln at the age of 95 he was asked when he had retired and he said, “I never retired.”&nbsp; He never did. &nbsp;He was still doing repairs in his shop and working part time in the fields after his son Rich became the operator of the farm.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Geraldine, brother-in-law Martin Freimuth(wife Leona) children Darlene Smith and Cathy Jacobs(husband Jim) of Lincoln, Rich Barta(wife Colleen) of Raymond, 8 grandchildren and 17 great&nbsp; grandchildren.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Jere Smith, brother Wilmer and parents Joe and Katherine Barta.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Joanne W. Failor, 90, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance.

She was born on October 3, 1929 in Alliance to Chester and Louise (Boness) Hawley.

On December 23, 1948 she was united in marriage to Bob Corp in Alliance.&nbsp; A daughter, Tarri was born to this union.&nbsp; Bob passed away in 1989.&nbsp; Later she would marry Ray “Ike” Failor on April 26, 1996.&nbsp; He also preceded her death, passing in 1998.

Joanne worked for many years as a bookkeeper with Alliance Tractor and Implement and later with Buchfinck Insurance and Real Estate.&nbsp; She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagles, Auxiliary, Alliance Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and was active in bowling leagues.&nbsp;

She is survived by her grandson, Donald Cler of Hemingford, her brother, Marvin Hawley of Alliance and her sisters, Marilyn Risseeuw and Betty Morse of Eugene, OR&nbsp; and Dorothy Holthus of Mitchell, NE.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Joanne was also preceded in death by her daughter, Tarri Honstein, her brother, Donald Hawley and her sister, Madelyn &nbsp;Kloke.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.&nbsp; A graveside service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Pastor Gideon Achi will officiate.&nbsp; The family suggests memorials be given to the Alzheimers Foundation.

Evelyn Frances Sones Keller passed away May 29, 2020 at her home in Gordon. She was born October 18, 1923 in Gordon, Nebraska to Edward Lee and Laura Bell (Knight) Sones, the youngest of four children.

Her early years were spent on the ranch 23 miles southeast of Gordon where she attended grade school at District #129 and then graduated from Gordon High School in 1940. She attended Normal School Training and went on to teach at rural schools for 6 years. She also worked at JC Penney for 6 years, she then went to work at First National Bank as bookkeeper and teller retiring in 1995.

She met and married Willard Keller at the First Presbyterian Church in 1948, where they had a double wedding with her brother Lyle and Joyce (Yardley) Sones. In July of 1955 a little girl, Jeanette, became a part of their family through adoption.

Evelyn was very active in the church, serving as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School, Youth Program and with the Women’s Association. She was a life-time member of the Legion Auxiliary, member of the Eastern Star and served on the board for the Senior Citizen Center. She was also a member of a couple of Card Clubs. She enjoyed doing crafts, reading, playing cards, traveling and being with friends and family.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Willard of 65 years, her parents, brothers Lee and Lyle, sister Lillian, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and nephews.

She is survived by her daughter Jeanette, granddaughter Christian (Drew) Delane, great-grandchildren Silvie and Adam Delane, sister-in-law Joyce Sones, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Saturday June 6, 2020, 10 AM at Gordon Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church or the Gordon Rescue Squad and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.

Evelyn Frances Sones Keller (1923 - 2020

Anna Marie Reece of rural Crawford, passed away May 25, 2020 at home.

She was born October 8, 1936, to Dick and Clara Buckley in Crawford, Nebraska.

After graduating from Sioux County High School in 1954, she worked at the bank in Harrison, Nebraska.

On June 15, 1958, she married Jim Reece. To this union three children were born, Diane, Darlene and Allen.

Anna Marie is survived by her husband Jim; daughters; Diane (Max) Lovitt, Darlene Serres, and son, Allen (Mary) Reece. Six grandchildren; Angie (Nate) Stiverson, Latisha Lovitt, Cody (Nicole) Serres, Clayton (Terra) Serres, Tessa Reece and Trent Reece; 2 great-grandsons; Ryder Serres and Weldon Serres; four sisters; Delilah (Ed) Flaherty, Mildred Lewis, Alberta Anderson, and Vicki (Doug) Ring, and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 infant siblings, one infant granddaughter, four brother in-laws; Frank Reece, Richard Reece, Jerry Lewis and Kevin Anderson.

Anna Marie enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, knitting and embroidery. She made each grandchild a quilt when they were born. She loved to watch Husker games when she could and was able to attend a game for her 80th birthday. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life. She would travel to see them or they would come to see her and grandpa. Anna Marie always had a cookie or a piece of pie for anyone that stopped in to visit (and donuts for the grandkids).

 </figure>Anna Marie Reece of rural Crawford, passed away May 25, 2020 at home.She was born October 8, 1936, to Dick and Clara Buckley in Crawford, Nebraska.After graduating from Sioux County High School in 1954, she worked at the bank in Harrison, Nebraska.On June 15, 1958, she married Jim Reece. To this union three children were born, Diane, Darlene and Allen.Anna Marie is survived by her husband Jim; daughters; Diane (Max) Lovitt, Darlene Serres, and son, Allen (Mary) Reece. Six grandchildren; Angie (Nate) Stiverson, Latisha Lovitt, Cody (Nicole) Serres, Clayton (Terra) Serres, Tessa Reece and Trent Reece; 2 great-grandsons; Ryder Serres and Weldon Serres; four sisters; Delilah (Ed) Flaherty, Mildred Lewis, Alberta Anderson, and Vicki (Doug) Ring, and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 infant siblings, one infant granddaughter, four brother in-laws; Frank Reece, Richard Reece, Jerry Lewis and Kevin Anderson.Anna Marie enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, knitting and embroidery. She made each grandchild a quilt when they were born. She loved to watch Husker games when she could and was able to attend a game for her 80th birthday. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life. She would travel to see them or they would come to see her and grandpa. Anna Marie always had a cookie or a piece of pie for anyone that stopped in to visit (and donuts for the grandkids).

Steven Ray Messersmith, of Alliance, passed away May 28, 2020 at the age of 70.

The youngest of three children and the only boy, Steve was born May 11, 1950 to Robert and Myrtle Emily (Bauer) Messersmith of rural Alliance. Steve grew up and spent the majority of his life on the Messersmith Ranch, founded by his grandfather F.E. Messersmith.

Steve attended grade school at a one-room schoolhouse in Sheridan County. A “herd” of nearby Messersmith and Bauer cousins – who were more like siblings – provided Steve with ample playmates growing up. As a freshman he attended the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis then went on to graduate from Alliance High School in 1968, where he was selected Prom King and elected Senior Class President.&nbsp; He was also an active member of 4-H, FFA and the wrestling team.

Following high school, Steve attended the University of Nebraska- Lincoln and graduated with a degree in animal science.&nbsp; He was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity and a lifelong Cornhusker football fan. &nbsp;A fond memory was driving to Miami with his frat brothers and sleeping on the beach to watch Nebraska beat LSU and win their first national championship. During his time in Lincoln, Steve met Lynne Black of Central City, Nebraska. Following graduation from UNL he enlisted in the army. His background and love of animals served him well during his time in the service, where he was stationed at Ft. Monmouth New Jersey working as an army veterinary and research assistant. Steve and Lynne married October 15, 1972 at Fairview United Methodist Church near Central City. To this union son Clay and daughter Cara were born.

Steve and Lynne made their home at Ft. Sill Oklahoma as Steve finished out his service, then moved back to Nebraska where they entered a partnership with Steve’s parents in the family ranch. Steve continued the family tradition of raising registered Hereford cattle, annually showing bulls at the Denver Stock Show, Rapid City Stock Show, and Kansas City Royal. He drove many long hours delivering bulls across the United States and even Canada. In fact, such a trip was how Steve and Lynne spent their honeymoon.

Even after Clay and Cara were out of high school, he was a regular at the 4-H and FFA Beef Show, always ready to lend a hand and a not so subtle opinion. Steve was a lifetime member of the Alliance United Methodist Church, the Nebraska Hereford Association, serving two terms as President and served on the board of education of Box Butte County District #65-J.&nbsp; He officially retired in 2016 after celebrating the Messersmith Ranch Centennial.&nbsp; At this time, he leased out the land and cattle as he and Lynne moved into Alliance. In retirement, Steve and Lynne enjoyed traveling with Lynne’s sisters: Susan and her husband Mark, and Deb and Delbert. Steve always remained devoted to Nebraska football as he and Lynne would gather with their “Corny Club” friends to watch games. He also loved the outdoors, including hunting at the ranch or fishing at McConaughy with Clay, nephew Brian and brother-in-law Jade. Most importantly, he loved the friends and family with which he participated in those activities. His favorites amongst those people called him “Pops.”Steve will long be remembered for his booming voice, renditions of the Macarena at weddings, ability to always be the life of the party and his meticulously grilled steaks.Steve is survived by his wife Lynne, son Clay (Micki) Messersmith of Alliance, daughter Cara (Aaron) Wade of Alliance; grandchildren Kaitlyn, Shaylee, Jenna and Kaci Messersmith and Camden, Bryce and Amelia Wade; sisters Evelyn Phillips of Kearney and Carol Eilts of Lincoln; sisters-in-law Susan Black (Mark Seader) of New York, NY and Debra King (Delbert Bender) of Kenesaw; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Herman and Myrtle Bauer and F.E. and Luva Messersmith and Gertrude Evans Messersmith; his parents; his father and mother-in-law Merlin and Lois Black; and his brother-in-law Jade Phillips.Due to the Covid-19 mandates, a private family service will be Friday, June 5 at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Gideon Achi officiating.
