&nbsp; It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Kay E (Thygeson) Juzenas. Memorial services will be on Friday, September 27th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance, Nebraska.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Kay Ellen Thygeson was born in Watertown, SD to Peter Thygeson and Charlotte Tobey Turley on February 28, 1951. She was raised with her siblings Roger Turley, Darlene Turley Gammil, Carl Thygeson, and Clara Thygeson Sweatt.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She shared many fond memories of growing up and after a brief marriage, she and her young daughter Dawn moved to Alliance, Nebraska where she worked several jobs, and eventually met the love of her life, Gordon Juzenas. Kay and Gordon were married on September 11, 1976, and they soon added Niikki and Christopher to complete their family. Kay and Gordon had just recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Kay worked as a cook for the ranch she and Gordon lived on, and eventually worked on other area ranches until she and Gordon moved into Alliance, Nebraska where they made their home. Kay worked at Highland Park Care Center for many years, until ill health forced her to retire.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Kay deeply loved her grandchildren, and she frequently traveled to their sporting events, and programs, and was their biggest cheerleader. Her grandchildren Tre Purintun, Devin Bell, Damien Bell, Hunner Juzenas, and Colton Juzenas are left to mourn her passing, as well as her bonus grandchildren Mason Wells, Hannah Wells, Ashley Mekolon, Cole Gable, Tymarie Steinhauer, Kennan Robinson and Parker Robinson.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Kay is also survived by her brothers in laws Ronald Juzenas, Harold Juzenas, and Guy Sweatt, as well as her sisters in laws Levon Nelson, and Karen Juzenas, and Patricia Duran. She also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews, and special friends. Kay leaves behind her children Dawn Purintun, Nikki Juzenas, Christopher Juzenas, and bonus children Sandy Mundt, Renee Robinson, Jeff Robinson, and Inez Wells.

Kay Ellen Juzenas (1951 - 2024)

Roy J. Zimmerman of Alliance passed away Monday, September 23, 2024 at Monument Rehab Care Center in Scottsbluff.&nbsp; He was 70 years of age.

He was born September 15, 1954 in Alliance to Charles and Dorothy Miller Zimmerman.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Army from May 31, 1974 to May 25, 1976.&nbsp; He returned to Alliance and was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad.&nbsp; He would later work at Parker-Hannifin in Alliance until his retirement.

Survivors include his son, Charles of Alliance, his brother, Charles of Brighton, his sisters, Dorothy Crocker of Omaha and Judy Buskirk of Bayard.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Jane Stanton and Jean Irvine.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 30 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Don Ferguson, 81, of rural Alliance, entered into his eternal rest on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family and friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Don was born November 20, 1942 in Alliance, Nebraska to John and Mabel (Stichka) Ferguson.&nbsp; He was raised in Seneca, Nebraska for a time by his maternal grandparents after his parents separated when he was a child.&nbsp; He has an older brother Steve Ferguson, of Piedmont, South Dakota, and a sister, Barbara Wilson of Nixa, Missouri.

Don graduated from Alliance High School in 1961.&nbsp; He married Linda Iversen, one of his classmates, on September 7, 1963 in Alliance.&nbsp; To this union were born nine children, Brad, Kenny, Valarie, Eleanor, a miscarried daughter Shondelle, Robert, Linda, Errick and Christopher.&nbsp; He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.

Don worked numerous jobs over the years, ranch hand, truck driver, mechanic, built homes in the Denver area, retail, electrician, firefighter, and school maintenance supervisor to name a few.

He never knew a stranger and had the ability to converse with anyone, young and old alike and had a “crazy” sense of humor.&nbsp; At the same time, he was not afraid to speak his mind if he disagreed with someone-and stubborn and independent he was!&nbsp; It was his way or no way, which we’re sure garnered him a few “frenemies” as he called them.&nbsp; He would do anything for anyone if he possibly could.&nbsp; He will be sorely missed by all who “really” knew him.

Don’s wishes were to be cremated with no services, but his family is planning a memorial celebration of life for a later date to be determined.

Memorials may be given to the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department or the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighter’s Association.

Joseph E Finkey Jr, 87, of Colorado, passed away on September 16th, 2024. Joseph was born in Rushville, Nebraska on November 23rd, 1936. He loved Cornhusker Football and the Denver Broncos. Hobbies included playing billiards, fishing and hanging out with his Chihuahua, Eddie.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph E Finkey Sr, stepfather Russell Fanning, mother Marie Fanning, sons Joseph E “Jay” Finkey III, and Wayne Sorenson.&nbsp;

Surviving children include: Russell Finkey, Carol Bussinger, Lanny Finkey, Marina Finkey, Gelinda Halle, Michael Sorenson, Larry Finkey, Aaron Finkey. He left behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, close friend Diane Hoff and her daughter Andrea.

There’s a celebration of life planned this Friday, September 27 at Lake McConaughey, with his kids and grandkids, but no services planned as of yet.

Graveside memorial services for John H. Rebillet, Sr. will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Prairie Rest Cemetery in Guernsey, Wyoming.  A dinner reception will follow the services at the Guernsey VFW.

John H. Rebillet, Sr., 79, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024 at Box Butte General Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born May 5, 1945 in Torrington, Wyoming to Charles and Gladys (Neal) Rebillet. Raised in Guernsey, Wyoming, he grew up with his sisters Carol, Sandy, Irene and his brother Ray.&nbsp; For most of his adolescence, he spent his time working in his mother’s café and helping his father on their ranch.

In August 1963 he enlisted in the Wyoming National Guard and received an education as a heavy equipment mechanic.&nbsp; During that time he met and fell in love with Verna K. Dinnel.&nbsp; They were married on November 2, 1964 in Gering, Nebraska.&nbsp; John and Verna earned their GEDs from Eastern Wyoming College together. After an honorable discharge from the National Guard in April 1969, John began working at CF&amp;I.

From 1966 to 1969, John and Verna welcomed their three children into the world.&nbsp; John H. Rebillet, Jr. on August 2, 1966, Charles V. “Chuck” Rebillet on October 23, 1967 and Melissa A. Rebillet (Offe) on October 14, 1969.&nbsp;

They raised their children on the family ranch outside of Guernsey until 1987, when John retired from CF&amp;I. In 1988, they moved to Alliance where John started his career with BNSF, retiring in June 2011 as an Engineer.

Throughout his life, John enjoyed riding his Harley and working on his 1934 Model A.&nbsp; His greatest enjoyment, though, came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He was an incredibly devoted father and loving husband to Verna for what would have been 60 years on November 2, 2024. John was tremendously wise, caring, and hard-working.&nbsp; He doted on his family with all the love within him.&nbsp; There was never a dull conversation with John as he had a fantastic sense of humor and plenty of stories to tell!&nbsp; He will be greatly missed!

John was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Gladys Rebillet, sister Irene Beal, brother Ray Beal and his son, Chuck Rebillet.

He is survived by his wife Verna Rebillet of Alliance, son John Jr. and his wife Kari Rebillet of Alliance, daughter Melissa and her husband Tom Offe of Alliance, sister Sandy Haynes of Lingle, Wyoming, sister Carol Fertig of Alco, Nevada, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Graveside services for John will be held at a later date and announced at that time.

Carolyn K. (Cotton) Anthony, 85, passed away on September 18, 2024 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. Services will be held 10:00 am Monday, September 23 at First United Methodist Church in North Platte. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Adams Swanson Funeral Home. 

Carolyn was born on August 12, 1939 in Alliance, NE to John Robert Cotton and Ora Juanita “Jack” (Bandy) Cotton. She graduated from McPherson County High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Otis F. Anthony on May 28, 1956 in Julesburg, CO. They made their home in North Platte where Carolyn worked for O’Connor Department Store and then at McDonald State Bank for 18 years. In 1979, she and Otis moved to Angora, NE where she took a job with the Burlington Northern Railroad in Alliance. She served as secretary to the division superintendent for 21 years before retiring. Her job responsibilities as secretary to the superintendent were many and varied.&nbsp; She thrived in that environment and soon became the &amp;quot;go-to&amp;quot; person for every question, problem and unusual situation.&nbsp; She earned the title of "Mother Green" (due to green being the BN color) and upon her retirement, the conference room in the superintendent's suite was named after her.&nbsp; To this day, many of the superintendents and other workers continue to keep in touch. The couple eventually returned to North Platte and remained there until Carolyn moved to Kearney in February 2022. She lived at Brookestone Gardens Senior Living Center until her death.

Family was the most important thing to Carolyn. Throughout her life, she treasured the time spent with siblings, children, grandchildren and all her extended family. She enjoyed cooking big family dinners and gatherings of any kind, especially when they involved a chocolate dessert!

She is survived by her children, Kimra (Mark) Schipporeit of Kearney, Mark (Ranee) Anthony of Alliance, grandchildren Jenna Tapia, Brett Schipporeit, Amanda (Jake) Keating, Cody (Katie) Anthony, Morgan (Christopher) Anthony, great grandchildren Robert, Ellie, Skylar, Kenley, Kiya, Jayla and Letti; sister Reva Coulter of Florida, sister- in-law Lois Cotton of Stapleton and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, brother Robert Cotton, brother-in-law William Coulter and her niece Leanna.

Nicholas Joseph Wood, age 31, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska.

He was born on July 5, 1993 in Sidney, Nebraska to Randy and Jennifer (Rolls) Wood.&nbsp; He grew up in Hemingford, Nebraska, graduating from Hemingford High School in 2011.&nbsp; Since that time he has worked alongside his father and uncle in the family business of Wood Construction.

Nick was a lifelong learner, and a voracious reader. He was interested in all sorts of things and could engage in conversation with just about anyone, to discuss just about anything.&nbsp; He was a professional Devil's Advocate, and never met an argument he didn't thoroughly enjoy.&nbsp; Nick thought that proper grammar was important and never hesitated to offer helpful "advice" when he received a text that had misspelled words or improper syntax.&nbsp; He loved his family and was proud to be a Wood.&nbsp; He will be missed more that words can express.

He is survived by his parents, Randy and Jennifer; his brother and his wife, Matthew and Vanessa Wood and their daughter Vivian; along with his special friend, Katie Failor.&nbsp; He is also survived by his grandmothers, Sandra Rolls of Sidney, NE and Marilyn Wood of Hemingford, NE.&nbsp; Survivors also include his aunts and uncles, Bob and Johnna Wood; Sherri and Marty Petersen, Ron and Terri Wood, Kim and Lee Davies, Tom and Teresa Rolls, Steve and Kim Rolls, and Scott and Stephanie Rolls; and numerous cousins.

A wake service will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford, NE.&nbsp; A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church.&nbsp; Father Matt Koperski will officiate.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Hemingford Cemetery.

Adolfo G. Lopez, 69, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Box Butte General Hospital.

He was born August 4, 1955 in Raymondville, Texas to Demetrio and Ignacia (Gonzalez) Lopez.

Adolfo was the strongest man many of us knew.&nbsp; In his early years he enjoyed agricultural work which led him to move around several states.&nbsp; One state in particular, Nebraska, is where he met the love of his life in Alliance.&nbsp;&nbsp;He and Josefa Garza were married on December 11, 1977 in Ramones County, N.L., Mexico.

Anyone who knew Adolfo knew he had a huge heart and a joke to tell.&nbsp; He enjoyed cruising the town in his chair with a smile on his face.&nbsp; He loved meeting new people, sharing his testimony with them, and attending church on Sundays.

Adolfo loved being with his family on any occasion, especially one with his daughter Josie’s cooking.&nbsp; He enjoyed relaxing and listening to the bible in the evenings, along with listening to his daughter Maruka play the guitar.&nbsp; He had a huge heart and loved being with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He always looked forward to weekend calls with his sisters.&nbsp; For these reasons and many more, he will be greatly missed, always in our hearts and never forgotten.

He is survived by his children, Demetrio “Tito” (Sulamit) Lopez, Josefa “Josie” (Jose) Garza, Adolfo “Junior” (Lucero) Lopez, Belinda (Bobby) Garza, Emmanuel (Renae) Lopez, Dionicia “Denise” (Raul) Gomez, and Maruka Lopez, all of Alliance; 19 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sisters, Sofia (Daniel) Rubio of Alamo, TX and Alicia (Saul) Martinez of Othello, WA; his father-in-law, Rev. Dionicio Garza, Sr. of Nuevo Leon, Mexico; his brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, Maria Lopez, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Lucien I. Kicken, age 97, passed away on September 9, 2024. His funeral service will be held at 10am on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Fr. Steven Deaver and Fr. Mike McDonald as Celebrants. Visitation is Sunday, September 15, from 5-7pm at the church with a Rosary Service being recited at 6pm. Lucien was born on August 31, 1927, in Alliance, NE, to Raymond and Margaret Klein Kicken. He attended a one-room school in Sheridan County and graduated from Lakeside High School in 1945.

Lucien served in the Army from 1950 to 1952. A highlight of his service was being stationed in Verdun, France, 40 miles from his father’s birthplace, where he met his French aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He married Margaret McDonald in Mitchell, NE, in 1956. They moved to Scottsbluff in 1964. As a graduate of Southeast Community College-Milford, he was employed at Nebraska Machinery for 30 years as a diesel mechanic, retiring in 1993.

Lucien and Margaret enjoyed square dancing. Their travels included most of the United States, Canada, and numerous trips visiting family and friends in Europe.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years; his sons, Mark (Joanne) of Buckley, WA, David (Joan) of Minatare, NE, and Louis (Amy) of Gering; daughters, Mary (Danny) Tompkins of Scottsbluff, Teresa Jacobs of Lincoln, and Emily (Patrick) Starr of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law John (Sheri) Jensen of Arthur, NE; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his brothers Ray (Enid) and George (Dee); sisters Beverly Jensen and Carol Wears; grandson Zachary Tompkins; and great-grandson Jacob Rosmann.

Barbara Ellen (Schoenfelder) Britton of Crawford was born Monday, April 13, 1942 in Kimball, South Dakota to parents Joseph A. and Kathryn (Blasius) Schoenfelder.&nbsp; She was the youngest of eight children. 

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Dale Britton; sons, Edwin (Lisa) Moran, Clinton Moran, Steven Moran; and daughter Nichole Moran plus three three step kids; Sandi Smith, Barbara (Rob) Wolf, and Kevin Britton. Barbara is also survived by one sister, Kay (Schoenfelder) Isburg, 15 grandchildren, 12w great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorothy (Schoenfelder) Alsgaard; her brothers Gib Schoenfelder, Earl Schoenfelder, Jim Schoenfelder, and Jerry Schoenfelder; three infant siblings, and one grandson.

Barbara was proud to have completed her Bachelor of Science in Real Estate at Chadron State College in 1990.&nbsp; After marrying Dale she moved to the farm with him in rural Dawes County and absolutely loved every aspect about it, especially the baby calves when they were running around, bucking with their tails in the air. 

She was also a true Huskers fan with not only keeping the stats of her beloved team but the stats of every other team in the division so she knew exactly who her team was up against. Sometimes Dale would have to go check on the cows because Barb was overly excited and loudly watching the game. Barbara was also an avid and talented quilter who won many ribbons at the County Fair with her fabric art.&nbsp; Barbara will be missed sorely by her many friends and loved ones.&nbsp;

Kerry June Fisher, 69, died Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Box Butte General Hospital.&nbsp; “Saying goodbye is not easy, but when released from pain it is as one friend calls it, a hard and holy moment.”

Kerry was born June 16, 1955 in Corson, South Dakota to Palmer L. “Bud” and Wanda E. (Scott) Karli.

Kerry graduated from Brandon Valley High School, Brandon, South Dakota in 1973, and later pursued her passion for nursing at Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota where she earned her Registered Nursing degree.

Highlights included her years as Charge Nurse Supervisor at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.&nbsp; Here she also met her future husband, Jeffrey A. Fisher, whom she married on June 2, 1984 in Brandon, South Dakota.&nbsp; After years of geriatric nursing, she found a new love and passion in family planning at Western Nebraska Community Resources.&nbsp; There were many, many hugs shared in her WIC office.&nbsp; Her most recent blessing was working at Box Butte General Hospital as auditor.&nbsp; The friendships and bonds proved to be strong this summer as Kerry’s health failed rapidly.&nbsp; Our gratefulness and gratitude for BBGH and EMT staff is beyond words.

Kerry was a dedicated member of the Alliance Berean Church, where her strong faith guided her life.&nbsp; She loved attending garage sales, playing piano, crafting, and was an active participant in Operation Christmas Child, generously giving back to her community.

She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Fisher; her son, Jason Fisher; and her granddaughter, Nevaeh Fisher, all of Alliance.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers, Wade (Barb) Karli of Faribault, MN and Lane (Ranae) Karli of Bennington, NE.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sandra Yasuko “Sandy” Suetsugu of Alliance passed August 21, 2024 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Ne.

Sandy was born May 9, 1961 in Alliance, Ne to Harvey and Janet (Yamashita) Suetsugu.

Sandy graduated from Alliance High school in 1979, going on to attended Chadron State Collage for 2 years before attending nursing school at Box Butte General Hospital graduating as an LPN in 1982.&nbsp; After passing her boards she moved to Honolulu Hawaii where she resided until 2017 when she returned to Alliance to help her mother. Sandy was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sandy is survived by her brother, Bruce Suetsugu (Phyllis Sweet), her aunts Elenor Yamashita, and Betty Yamashita and numerous cousins.

Preceded in death by mother and father Harvey and Janet.

Sandy loved life and brought a smile to all she came in touch with, she loved her friends and crafting. Taiko drumming was one of her passions. She loved to watch sci-fi movies and listen to scary podcasts.

Sandy’s celebration of life will be at The Golden Hour Barbecue 110 West 4th Street, Alliance, NE on Saturday November 2nd, 2024, 12:30.

A memorial has been established in Sandy’s name to aid her friend Mariah Mae Bell in her journey for a new kidney.&nbsp; In leu of flowers please make a donation at Consumer’s Community Credit Union to the Sandy Su Memorial.&nbsp; Mariah and Sandy were very close and Sandy would be so happy to help Mariah with her journey and will be watching over her.

Rex Le Leisy (July 9th, 1947-September 4th, 2024)

Rex Le Leisy, 77 of Bridgeport, Nebraska passed away on September 4th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Rex LeRoy Shannon was born to Rex LeRoy and Laona Marie (Currie) in Clay Center, Kansas. His father, Rex, was killed in an accident on April 15th, 1947. Rex was then adopted on August 11th, 1950, by Alvin Leisy and his name was changed to Rex Le Leisy. The family moved to a cattle ranch in Alliance, Nebraska, and he had three siblings Robert, Ron and Bruce.

As a child Rex was active in 4H and he served on the 4H Council. Rex attend Nebraska Christian High School and graduated in 1965. He attended college for two years before enlisting in the US Army Primary Helicopter School. He graduated from Pre-Flight training and solo trained on a TH55 at Mineral Wells Texas. A back injury prevented Rex from passing the flight physical, so he completed more training and in 1969 he left and spent 10 months and 4 days in the Republic of Vietnam. After returning home Rex married Louise Francone and had three children Brenda Kay, Jennifer Grace, and Andrew Shannon.

Rex then moved to Broadwater and worked with Anthony Francone for years on the family farm. Rex and Tony had a close relationship, and he was a special person in his life. In 1988 he went to work at Dayco-Parker in Alliance, Nebraska. He was a lifetime member of the NRA (Broadwater Post 312 Legion and VFW). He served three terms on the Village of Broadwater Board. After retiring, Rex worked with Leisy K-Lawn for several summers.

Rex loved to hunt and spent all his free time on the North Platte River, making many great friends along the way. He enjoyed watching his grandson’s Drew and Dixon shoot their first geese and ducks. He also loved to help with the family’s 4H animals. He was incredibly happy to welcome a grand daughter Gracee and later three additional grandchildren, Zane, Zaylie and Shae. Rex also had 3 stepchildren whom he loved dearly-Meg Craig, Rashl Bunnell, and Russell Barker.

He is survived by his children, Brenda (Chris Schwegel), Jennifer (Andy), Andrew (Melody); grandchildren Drew Leisy, Dixon Leisy, Gracee Taylor, Zane Gosney, Zaylie Gosney and Tishayla McCafferty. Brothers Robert (Diane) and Bruce (Karol). Numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He was proceeded in death by his father Rex Shannon, his adopted father Alvin Leisy, his mother Laona Leisy Perrin, his brother Ron Leisy, Cousin Mike Leisy and grandparents. 

Memorial Services for Rex will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Broadwater with military honors.

William Earl “Bill” Connelly passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff, NE.

He was born May 10, 1931 in Alliance to Frank and Jessie (Reed) Connelly. He graduated high school in 1948 from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from January 1951 until November 1954 and later in the Nebraska National Guard. He worked a variety of jobs, eventually retiring from BNSF after 17 years.&nbsp;

On March 30, 1959 he was united in marriage to Merna I. Reeves. They raised seven children together. He was known for his love of poetry, his family, and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Merna, his children, Ruth Boillot of France, Christopher (Rosanna) Connelly of Panama, NE., Brenda Connelly of Scottsbluff, Vince (LaVonne) Connelly of Arnold, NE, Elaine Connelly (Kent) Bleisch of Scottsbluff, Noreen Connelly of Alliance and Patrick (Darcy) Connelly of Torrington, WY., 41 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He is also survived by his siblings, Colleen Kamas of Boulder, CO, Tom Connelly of Genoa, NE, Mary Ann Felkins of Kimball, NE, Patrick Connelly of Kimball, NE and Dave (Jeanine) Connelly of Crawford, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 children in infancy, Theresa and Michael; brothers and sister, Joe, Frank “Mike”, Sara Arnold, and Tim; grandchildren, Vincent Boillot, Brielle Dietrick, and Angela Connelly; and sons-in-law, Scott Dietrick and Claude Boillot.

William Earl “Bill” Connelly (1931 - 2024)

Owen Max Foster, age 15, of Big Springs, NE passed on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Children’s Hospital in Aurora, CO as a result of a tragic auto accident on May 18, 2024. Owen was born March 15, 2009, at Julesburg, CO to Kendall and Jennifer (Loomis) Foster.

He attended South Platte Schools and had just finished his Freshman year of high school. While he hated the schoolwork, he loved the social aspect and being around teachers and friends. In school, Owen was involved in football, basketball, track, Knight vision and FFA.

Owen enjoyed spending his Wednesday evenings at the Assembly of God church learning God’s word while participating in the Royal Rangers Youth group. He also attended pow-wows at Lexington where his teams often won the obstacle course race.

He was also highly involved in the Pride of the Plains 4-H Club and loved showing his animals. He has taken many static projects over the seven years he was enrolled in 4-H. He has shown lambs, goats, pigs and beef at fairs. The beef had become his favorites and he had set a goal to win a buckle with a steer out of his own herd.&nbsp; He was also involved with the South Platte Shooters 4-H Trap Team and participated in many trap shoots including the Cornhusker State Trap Shoot at Doniphan. He was also a member of the Deuel County Shooters where he participated in hunting skills, BB gun, air rifle, pistol and archery.

Outside of his busy schedule, he loved to ride motorcycles and four wheelers, go hunting and fishing with friends and family, welding, working on his pickup, riding horses and raising his own cattle. He had a profound love of music and could always be found listening to it. Mostly, Owen loved spending time talking to people, friends, family, and anyone that would take interest in his stories.

Owen is survived by his parents, Kendall and Jen Foster, brother Kris Kopetzky and fiancé Megan Orth, grandparents Greg and Deb Foster and Diana Loomis, great-grandmother Mary Krems, and many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Raymond Loomis, great grandparents Max Krems, Evelyn and Charles Foster, Samuel and Maude Loomis and Elmer and Helen Mundt.

A Celebration of Life will be held, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. in South Platte High School Auditorium with Pastor Todd Lanman officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Big Springs Cemetery in Big Springs, Nebraska.

Owen Max Foster (2009-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

Karen Hansen, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Highland Park Care Center after courageously facing a lengthy health challenge.

She was born August 18, 1941, in Alliance, Nebraska, to Kenneth and Lucille (Bunce) Brock. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1959.

Karen married Larry Kumpf on December 18, 1965, in Lincoln, NE, and together they made their home on a farm in Shelby, NE. Though their marriage eventually ended in divorce, they were blessed with three children: Tim, Kaylene and Craig. Living on the Shelby farm, Karen nurtured her dream of becoming a teacher, turning everyday life into countless learning experiences and adventures for her children. It was here that our family's love for farming truly began.&nbsp;

Karen later pursued teaching and received her teachers certificate from Chadron State College and embarked on a fulfilling teaching career at a small, two-classroom rural school in&nbsp;Berea, NE, where she joyfully dedicated several years to her passion for education.

Karen was a woman of many passions and talents. Her love for painting reflected her vibrant&nbsp;spirit, while her enjoyment of puzzles and card games showcased her sharp mind and playful&nbsp;nature. But it was her gift of storytelling that truly brought joy to those around her. A simple&nbsp;phone call often turned into a delightful hour filled with laughter and cherished memories, a&nbsp;testament to her ability to brighten the lives of others.

On January 9, 1982, Karen married Don Hansen of Hemingford, NE. Karen and Don enjoyed&nbsp;many wonderful years together, filled with memorable trips to Europe and RV adventures&nbsp;through Alaska. As empty nesters, they transformed their home into a Bed and Breakfast, where&nbsp;they welcomed strangers who soon became dear friends. Their marriage was marked by a deep&nbsp;commitment to serving others, fueled by a shared passion for compassion and kindness.&nbsp;Together, they devoted themselves to causes and communities they cared about, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and warmth that touched countless lives.

Together with her husband Don, Karen co-founded the Wednesday Kids program at their&nbsp;Church, a beautiful initiative that touched the hearts and minds of countless children. Her&nbsp;dedication to nurturing young souls was a testament to her boundless generosity. Later in life,&nbsp;Karen continued her mission of helping others by volunteering at WNCC, where she played a&nbsp;vital role in assisting adults as they prepared for their GEDs. Her kindness, warmth, and passion&nbsp;for giving back will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, and her commitment to these&nbsp;programs left a lasting impact on the lives of many.

Karen is survived by her children, Tim and Deb Kumpf of Hemingford, Craig and Heather Kumpf of Hemingford, and Kaylene and Ron Sorensen of Lincoln, NE. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1959.Karen married Larry Kumpf on December 18, 1965, in Lincoln, NE, and together they made their home on a farm in Shelby, NE. Though their marriage eventually ended in divorce, they were blessed with three children: Tim, Kaylene and Craig. Living on the Shelby farm, Karen nurtured her dream of becoming a teacher, turning everyday life into countless learning experiences and adventures for her children. It was here that our family's love for farming truly began.&nbsp;Karen later pursued teaching and received her teachers certificate from Chadron State College and embarked on a fulfilling teaching career at a small, two-classroom rural school in&nbsp;Berea, NE, where she joyfully dedicated several years to her passion for education.Karen was a woman of many passions and talents. Her love for painting reflected her vibrant&nbsp;spirit, while her enjoyment of puzzles and card games showcased her sharp mind and playful&nbsp;nature. But it was her gift of storytelling that truly brought joy to those around her. A simple&nbsp;phone call often turned into a delightful hour filled with laughter and cherished memories, a&nbsp;testament to her ability to brighten the lives of others.On January 9, 1982, Karen married Don Hansen of Hemingford, NE. Karen and Don enjoyed&nbsp;many wonderful years together, filled with memorable trips to Europe and RV adventures&nbsp;through Alaska. As empty nesters, they transformed their home into a Bed and Breakfast, where&nbsp;they welcomed strangers who soon became dear friends. Their marriage was marked by a deep&nbsp;commitment to serving others, fueled by a shared passion for compassion and kindness.&nbsp;Together, they devoted themselves to causes and communities they cared about, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and warmth that touched countless lives.Together with her husband Don, Karen co-founded the Wednesday Kids program at their&nbsp;Church, a beautiful initiative that touched the hearts and minds of countless children. Her&nbsp;dedication to nurturing young souls was a testament to her boundless generosity. Later in life,&nbsp;Karen continued her mission of helping others by volunteering at WNCC, where she played a&nbsp;vital role in assisting adults as they prepared for their GEDs. Mary Ann Leseberg, devoted wife and mother, died unexpectedly on August 4, 2024 surrounded by her&nbsp;loving family in Greeley, CO. At her request cremation has taken place and a private family gathering&nbsp;will be held at a later date.

Mary Ann was born on August 16, 1950 in Scottsbluff, NE to George and Ruth (Feather) McDaniel. She&nbsp;was greeted by her loving sister, Laura Helen, who would be her most trusted confidant. As a young child&nbsp;she could be found tinkering in her dad’s garage taking things apart and figuring out how things&nbsp;worked. As a teenager, she learned how to cook and sew which would serve her well when she had her&nbsp;own family. She graduated from Bayard High School in 1968 and went to work for Western Sugar&nbsp;Factory in Bayard, NE for 30 years as a Laboratory Leadman. She married P. Wayne Muhr and together&nbsp;they had four children: Troy, Jocilyn, Brian, and Brett. Wayne died three years after they were married&nbsp;and she was determined to raise her children on her own. But then in 1982 she met the love of her life, L.&nbsp;Paul Leseberg. They were married and from this union their daughter, Sahara, was born.

Mary Ann will be remembered for the devotion she had for her family. Her grandiose holiday decorating,&nbsp;homemade chicken noodle over mashed potatoes, glace, and “congloption” are just a few ways she&nbsp;showed her love. Mary Ann adored her family and thought her grandkids were her greatest joy. She&nbsp;always had a well-stocked cupboard full of snacks for them and would whip up a meal in minutes.

Mary Ann always put others first, never complained, and remembered everyone’s birthdays, even the&nbsp;dogs. She was passionate about animals of all kinds and made sure they didn’t go hungry either. She was a&nbsp;fearless mother who taught her children to be resilient, inventive, and to never be afraid to fail. She had a&nbsp;warm smile for everyone she met and had a witty disposition. There was always laughter in the room she was in.

Mary Ann was welcomed to Heaven by her parents, George and Ruth; first husband, Wayne; sister,&nbsp;Laura Kitt; infant brother, Louis McDaniel; niece, Karen Peterson; and nephew, Greg Kitt.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, L. Paul Leseberg; sons: Troy Muhr; Brian (Jamie) Muhr; Brett&nbsp;(Erica) Muhr; daughters: Jocilyn (Mark) Blanco; Sahara (Gary) Moenning; step-daughter Monica&nbsp;Leseberg. Harold E. Thompson was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, July 31, 2024&nbsp;unexpectedly at home.&nbsp; He was born January 9, 1946&nbsp;to Glen E. and Eileen (Cunningham)&nbsp;Thompson.

He was raised on the home ranch southeast of Alliance,&nbsp;Nebraska. Harold graduated from Alliance High School in 1963,&nbsp;and Denver Automotive and Diesel Mechanic School.&nbsp;He served in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; Harold had fond memories of family train trips,&nbsp;visiting Disney Land when it first opened in 1955, and working cattle on the Sandhills land he loved.

Harold married Marge (Margaret Ann) Seeley&nbsp;on July 10,&nbsp;1972. To this union,&nbsp;six children were born:&nbsp;Karla (Dean) Hall, Jodi (Paul) Fries,&nbsp;Glenda (Darren) McCune,&nbsp;Keri (Mike) Gibson,&nbsp;Gene (Izzy) Thompson,&nbsp;and Sara (Dustin) Hicks.

Family meant everything to Harold. He truly loved his children,&nbsp;their spouses,&nbsp;his grandchildren,&nbsp;and great-grandchildren. Grandchildren: Chandler,&nbsp;Cody,&nbsp;Taylee,&nbsp;Emily,&nbsp;Aleshia, Madilyn,&nbsp;Nason,&nbsp;Daycin,&nbsp;Braylin, Bo, Kyden,&nbsp;Bransen,&nbsp;Jaxden,&nbsp;Truett,&nbsp;Millie,&nbsp;Micheal&nbsp;(Reve'); Great-grandchildren: Achen and Aniston.

Harold was known for his hard work,&nbsp;reliability,&nbsp;and stability. His children have fond memories of moving cattle,&nbsp;digging auto gates,&nbsp;calving,&nbsp;brandings,&nbsp;and always taking a break at noon for lunch,&nbsp;Paul Harvey,&nbsp;and family time. Music was always playing in the background when Harold was around,&nbsp;a testament to his dedication to his work and family.

Harold became an over-the-road truck driver in 2000. Harold and Marge enjoyed seeing the&nbsp;United States and hauling loads from all over Alaska to Florida,&nbsp;California&nbsp;to&nbsp;Maine. Harold could have been known as an introvert to many,&nbsp;but to his family,&nbsp;he was funny, caring, out going, fun-loving, and thrived with family around.

Harold retired in 2015 and threw himself into the care of his wife and grandchildren. He was always available to drive you anywhere, fix any car or household tasks,&nbsp;baby sit grandchildren or grand-puppies, or mow a neighbor's yard. If Harold could help,&nbsp;he would.&nbsp;In retirement, he became Honey Bear Preschool's principal and fix-it man.&nbsp;Generations of children knew Mr.&nbsp;Thompson as a funny, light-hearted soul! Harold spent his time gardening,&nbsp;maintaining his storage shed, taking family trips, and gambling with his wife.

Harold is survived by his wife, children,&nbsp;grandchildren, and great-grandchildren;&nbsp;his brother,&nbsp;Grover (Vicki) Thompson; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Pat (Darrell)Andersen,&nbsp;Johna Eaton, and John (Karyn) Seeley; many nieces and nephews,&nbsp;and friends.

Clifford Gene Higgins, 88 died Friday, August 2, 2024 at his home in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Clifford was born on October 15, 1935 in Yuma, Colorado to Robert and Ruby (House) Higgins. A sister, Deloris and two brothers, Robert Higgins and Henry Russell followed Clifford. Clifford received his GED in Alliance, Nebraska in 1980 alongside his wife Nedra.

On May 20, 1957, Clifford married Nedra Dykes. To this union, two children were born, Alberta (Higgins) Maddox and Michael Higgins.

Clifford's hobbies included bowling, fishing, hunting and playing the lottery. Clifford enjoyed his mornings spent at local convenience stores having coffee and visiting with&nbsp;

His son, Mike worked alongside him learning the construction trade that he has used for many years and still to this day. He built his&nbsp;daughter Alberta's first home as well as his and Nedra's home that they lived in until his passing.

Preceding Clifford in death were his parents along with his sister and brother-in-law Delores and Chet Hampton, his brother Robert Higgins, father-in-law and mother-in-law&nbsp;Raymond and Betty Dykes and sister-in-law Hazel Livingston.

Survivors include his wife Nedra, his children, Alberta (Kermit) Maddox and Michael (Monica) Higgins; his brother, Henry (Clara) Russell of North Platte, NE, sisters in-law,&nbsp;Jeannie (Rik) Taylor of Omaha, NE, Etta (Bob) Taylor of Gering, NE and Denise Everhart of Gering, NE, brothers-in-law, Butch Dykes of Mitchell, NE, Clint Livingston&nbsp;of Lewellen, NE and sister-in-law Tina Dykes of Morrill, NE; six grandchildren, Leo Brandle Fowler of Rushville, OH, Beth (Spencer) Brenneman of Crestline, OH, Jessica&nbsp;Haines of Mt Pleasant, SC, Kash Maddox of Alliance, NE, Ryan (Laura) Higgins of Alliance, NE, and Steven (Travis) Higgins-Prelle of Denver, CO; five great-grandchildren, Brice (Hannah) Brenneman of Willard, OH, Isabel Brenneman of Crestline, OH, Evan Haines of Mt. Clifford enjoyed his mornings spent at local convenience stores having coffee and visiting with local patrons until ill health.Clifford worked many jobs in his life including ranching (cowboy), Electric Hose and Rubber Co., Pepsi Bottling Co., Harris Sales and was the owner of Higgins Construction for 30 years until his retirement. His son, Mike worked alongside him learning the construction trade that he has used for many years and still to this day. He built his&nbsp;daughter Alberta's first home as well as his and Nedra's home that they lived in until his passing.Preceding Clifford in death were his parents along with his sister and brother-in-law Delores and Chet Hampton, his brother Robert Higgins, father-in-law and mother-in-law&nbsp;Raymond and Betty Dykes and sister-in-law Hazel Livingston.Survivors include his wife Nedra, his children, Alberta (Kermit) Maddox and Michael (Monica) Higgins; his brother, Henry (Clara) Russell of North Platte, NE, sisters in-law,&nbsp;Jeannie (Rik) Taylor of Omaha, NE, Etta (Bob) Taylor of Gering, NE and Denise Everhart of Gering, NE, brothers-in-law, Butch Dykes of Mitchell, NE, Clint Livingston&nbsp;of Lewellen, NE and sister-in-law Tina Dykes of Morrill, NE; six grandchildren, Leo Brandle Fowler of Rushville, OH, Beth (Spencer) Brenneman of Crestline, OH, Jessica&nbsp;Haines of Mt Pleasant, SC, Kash Maddox of Alliance, NE, Ryan (Laura) Higgins of Alliance, NE, and Steven (Travis) Higgins-Prelle of Denver, CO; five great-grandchildren, Brice (Hannah) Brenneman of Willard, OH, Isabel Brenneman of Crestline, OH, Evan Haines of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Macy Brooks of Alliance, NE, Dawsyn Higgins of Alliance, NE and two great-great granddaughters, Lucy and Nora Brenneman of Willard, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
