Trey McGowens&nbsp;led the Huskers (5-8, 0-6 Big Ten) with 13 points in the contest, scoring in double figures for the ninth time this season. On the glass,&nbsp;Dalano Banton&nbsp;grabbed a team-high six boards for Nebraska. The Spartans (9-7, 3-7 Big Ten)&nbsp;jumped out to an early 7-0 lead until&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=42017">Lat Mayen</a>&nbsp;got the Huskers started back up again with a 3-pointer to put the team on the board. The Huskers went up 15-14 with under 10 minutes to play in the half, but were unable to hold on to the lead as Michigan State built a 34-22 advantage headed into the half.&nbsp; The second half saw the Huskers bring the game within seven points, but despite last minute pushes,&nbsp;NU was not able to&nbsp;overcome the Spartan lead.&nbsp; The Big Red led Michigan State in points off turnovers (17-9), points in the paint (36-16) and steals (12-7).&nbsp; Joshua Langford scored a team-high 18 points for Michigan State as one of two Spartans who scored in double figures. Spartans spoil Nebraska's return to the basketball court

&nbsp; LINCOLN, Neb.&nbsp;- The No. 4 Nebraska volleyball team swept Maryland 25-14, 25-21, 25-18 on Saturday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers (4-0) got 12 kills on .308 hitting from sophomore&nbsp;Madi Kubik, who also contributed three aces and paced a decisive run in the third set to help the Huskers pull away. Riley Zuhn&nbsp;set a new career high in kills for the second night in a row with 11 and did so on .500 hitting.&nbsp;Lauren Stivrins,&nbsp;Kayla Caffey&nbsp;and&nbsp;Lexi Sun&nbsp;all had eight kills each. Caffey hit .538 and added a match-best five blocks. Sun had two aces and eight digs.&nbsp; Nicklin Hames&nbsp;set the Huskers to a .337 hitting percentage. She had 29 assists with a team-leading 10 digs.&nbsp;Kenzie Knuckles&nbsp;chipped in eight digs, seven assists and an ace.&nbsp;Keonilei Akana&nbsp;had two aces to go with four digs.&nbsp; The Huskers had a 7-6 edge in blocks and 34-31 advantage in digs. &nbsp; The Big Ten Conference Administrators Council, which includes the Directors of Athletics and Senior Women Administrators from all 14 member institutions, has approved a revised 2021 Big Ten football schedule. The schedule was updated in order to accommodate the six games that adjusted locations as a result of changes made during the 2020 scheduling process, including Nebraska-Purdue and Nebraska-Wisconsin. All other opponents and locations remain intact from the previously approved version of the schedule. In addition to the location changes for two Nebraska games, dates changed for several of the Huskers' 2021 league contests. The Huskers' first two Big Ten games remain unchanged with a matchup against Illinois on Aug. 28, with the game currently scheduled for Dublin, Ireland. Nebraska's next Big Ten game remains at Michigan State on Sept. 25. Nebraska's home conference schedule opens with back-to-back games at Memorial Stadium.&nbsp; The Huskers will take on defending Big Ten West Champion Northwestern on Oct. 2, before playing host to Michigan on Oct. 9. The Huskers will then head to Minnesota on Oct. 16, have a bye week on Oct. 23 and play Purdue at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 30. A visit from defending Big Ten champion Ohio State on Nov. 6 opens the final month of the league schedule. The Huskers will visit Madison on Nov. 20 to take on Wisconsin. New 2021 Husker football schedule revealed

Alliance High School Senior Chase King has been playing baseball most of his life. Starting with the Alliance Old Timers youth leagues, through the Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth programs and for the last 5 years wtih the Alliance Spartan Legion teams.&nbsp; Chase will continue his baseball career after high school at Mount Marty University in Yankton, South Dakota after signing a letter of intent Thursday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chase has been a valuable utility player in his baseball career.&nbsp; &nbsp;He has played both the infield and outfield and also pitched for the Spartans.&nbsp; Last season he played in 40 games and hit .307 with 20 runs batted in.&nbsp; On the mound, he appeared in 13 games, made 7 starts,&nbsp; and finished with a 3-0 record with 33 strikeouts in 50 innings.&nbsp; He will concentrate on pitching at Mount Marty.&nbsp; &nbsp;Chase was also a 2-way starter for the Alliance football team and a 3 year letterwinner and a starter this season,&nbsp; for the Bulldog basketball team.&nbsp; Chase says he is looking forward to finishing the basketball season strong and then playing a full baseball season this summer.&nbsp;

Mount Marty is an NAIA school and a member of the GPAC Conference. Chase is the son of Sharla and Dan King of Alliance.

&nbsp; CHADRON, Neb. -- February 4, 2021 --&nbsp;The Chadron State College volleyball match against Colorado Mesa University, originally scheduled for 5 p.m., will now be played at noon, in order to accommodate the visitors, with admission open to spectators adhering with the CSC Face Mask Policy and social distancing. The CSU-Pueblo match scheduled for 11 a.m. will not be played, due to Covid concerns. The programs will work to try and reschedule as dates allow. The NCAA is limiting each Division II member to 14 dates of competition in the current season, any of which may include multiple matches. The Eagles are coming off their first win of the season, 3-0, over South Dakota Mines. That match was not on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule, so CSC is 0-1 in league play. Colorado Mesa is now ranked No. 20 nationally, after starting the season 4-0. The Mavericks picked up a season opening 3-0 win over Regis University, then ranked No. 5, before picking up wins against CSU-Pueblo, Northwest Nazarene, and Westminster. The match will be video streaming at chadronstate.tv and also broadcast by 97.5 FM Double Q Country.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The University of Nebraska and Metropolitan Entertainment &amp; Convention Authority were already set to host the NCAA Division I Volleyball semifinals and final at the CHI Health Center in Omaha from April 22-24, but the NCAA's Division I Competition Oversight Committee approved a proposal to have all 48 teams selected for this year's tournament play every round in Omaha.&nbsp; "The city of Omaha has proven itself time and again to be one of the best host cities for sporting events in this country," Nebraska Volleyball Head Coach&nbsp;John Cook&nbsp;said. "From the College World Series to the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials to NCAA Championships, they always do a phenomenal job, and I have no doubt Omaha will put its best foot forward and make it a memorable experience for all of the NCAA Volleyball teams."

All rounds of the tournament would be played at the CHI Health Center Arena and Convention Center April 13-24. The scheduled dates for competition are subject to change, but for now, the schedule would be the following:

First-round matches would occur April 13, followed by second-round matches April 14. The regional semifinals would be held April 17, followed by the regional finals April 19.

The two national semifinal matches would be April 22, and the national championship match is scheduled for April 24.

"It takes an army to recruit student-athletes," said Long, "and we'd like to thank the CSC admissions department, our faculty and staff, and our current players, for all their hard work. The coaching staff did a great job addressing needs. The thing that stands out to me about our class is speed. I'm also really proud that more than half of our signees qualified for academic scholarships." The 26 new players break down very neatly into position groups. There are two quarterbacks, two running backs, four wide receivers, two tight ends, four offensive linemen, two defensive linemen, three linebackers, four defensive backs, two all-purpose athletes, and one kicking specialist. The quarterbacks are&nbsp;James Opio&nbsp;of Portland, Maine, and&nbsp;Preston Pearson&nbsp;of Kearney, Nebraska. Opio&nbsp;was a participant in the 2020 Maine Elite Passing Camp. Pearson was a Lincoln Journal-Star First Team Super State member as an athlete. Joining the running back corps are&nbsp;Kinyatah Morgan, of Brooksville, Florida, and&nbsp;Brock Ping, of Billings, Montana. Morgan averaged 10 yards per carry over three seasons at Nature Coast Technical High in Florida, including 12.7 per attempt last fall. Ping is an All-State selection whose team won state titles in 2017 and 2018, and finished as runner up last fall. &nbsp; The Chadron State College women's basketball team faced off against the Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners on Saturday night. Falling 83-67 at home, the team moves to 0-8 on the season, with MSU Denver improving to 8-5 overall, with a 7-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record. The Eagles got on the board first thanks to&nbsp;Jori Peters&nbsp;but the Roadrunners were soon to strike back, scoring 9 of the next 11 points. Still, the game remained a one possession margin for most of the first quarter, and MSU Denver led 15-14 headed into the second. CSC took its biggest lead of the night at 22-15, after&nbsp;Olivia Waufle&nbsp;hit her first two three-point attempts and Peters swished an inbounds pass from&nbsp;Bailey Brooks&nbsp;while standing on the arc. Five points by MSUD's Kendra Parra and four from Peyton Taylor in the waning minutes of the first half erased the Eagles' lead and sent the Roadrunners into halftime with a 33-29 advantage. By the half, CSC was 11-for-23 on field goals and 2-of-3 from three, as well as 5-of-6 from the foul line. The Roadrunners came out strong in the second half and took a nine-point lead in the first two and a half minutes. They increased it to 53-43 by the end of the third quarter. After starting the game 3-for-9 from the three-point arc, MSU Denver drained a remarkable 8-of-16 in the second half to extend its lead to the largest of the night at the final buzzer. The winners had two players in double-figure scoring. MSUD Denver guard Kendra Parra was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line while knocking down 4-of-10 from three, to register 26 points total. Forward Allie Navarette connected on 9-of-15 field goal attempts overall, going 3-for-4 from long range, finishing with 23 points. Tosjanae Bonds, a diminutive guard, put forth a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jori Peters&nbsp;and&nbsp;Ashayla Powers&nbsp;led the CSC team with 17 points on the night with&nbsp;Olivia Waufle&nbsp;close behind with 12. Powers was 7-for-8 in free throws and and&nbsp;Bailey Brooks&nbsp;was 5-for-6 while securing nine points. Waufle hit all three of the team's three-pointers, out of four attempts. CSC only had seven turnovers in the game, after averaging nearly 16 through the previous seven games. Only the six committed at Westminster College were lower.&nbsp; The Eagles played without three of their top five scorers, due to various illnesses and injuries, until&nbsp;Hazel Fui&nbsp;entered the game with 3:46 to play in the fourth quarter. Fui scored just two points in two minutes. Leading scorer&nbsp;Taryn Foxen&nbsp;remained out because of extended missed practice due to illness. The Eagles women play their next game on the road at CSU-Pueblo on Friday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

MSUD Denver guard Kendra Parra was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line while knocking down 4-of-10 from three, to register 26 points total. Forward Allie Navarette connected on 9-of-15 field goal attempts overall, going 3-for-4 from long range, finishing with 23 points. Tosjanae Bonds, a diminutive guard, put forth a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jori Peters&nbsp;and&nbsp;Ashayla Powers&nbsp;led the CSC team with 17 points on the night with&nbsp;Olivia Waufle&nbsp;close behind with 12. Powers was 7-for-8 in free throws and and&nbsp;Bailey Brooks&nbsp;was 5-for-6 while securing nine points. Waufle hit all three of the team's three-pointers, out of four attempts. CSC only had seven turnovers in the game, after averaging nearly 16 through the previous seven games. Only the six committed at Westminster College were lower.&nbsp; The Eagles played without three of their top five scorers, due to various illnesses and injuries, until&nbsp;Hazel Fui&nbsp;entered the game with 3:46 to play in the fourth quarter. Fui scored just two points in two minutes. Leading scorer&nbsp;Taryn Foxen&nbsp;remained out because of extended missed practice due to illness. &nbsp; The Eagles came off a tough loss against UCCS on Thursday night, 3-1 by opening up their home-opener Friday against the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers with a sweep, 3-0. Their conference record moved to 1-1. The Eagles won the first point in the match and took a brief lead in the first set. It was back and forth for a few points and the Hardrockers found themselves tied at 9-9. The tie did not last long, however. At 11-14, the tide changed for the Eagles and they solidly regained the lead. Though the largest lead would come at the end of the set with a lead of eight points, 17-25, the away team would not get within two points for the remainder of the first set. Blocking was huge for Chadron State early on and proved to help them win the set. Similar blocking also proved to help them later on. Set two proved to be a challenge for all. The Eagles scored the first point and would take a lead that would last until 3-9 when the opponents slowly made a comeback. After losing control of their seven-point lead, the Hardrockers tied the game up at 18-18 and 20-20. At 21-20, the visitors took their first lead of the night, but it would not last long. A back and forth ensued. Leads volleyed back and forth as many times as the ball itself, it seemed. It took extra points to determine the winner of set two. Although Chadron State maintained the lead during the extra points, South Dakota Mines did not give up, tying it twice at 25-25 and 26-26. A crucial point for the set was the kill by Alexia Hurtado, winning it for the Eagles 26-28. &nbsp; A fight for the lead was no surprise early in the third set. The Eagles won the first point but soon had to come back from a scoring deficit which they did multiple times. Chadron State retook the lead at 10-10 and controlled it soundly with SDSMT not reaching within striking distance after that. CSC boasted their largest lead of eight at 15-23 and 16-24 until they won the final set and match at 25-17. The Eagles not only won every set of the match, they scored first in each set. Special consideration needs to be made for some of the big impact players of the game. Such players include Alexia Hurtado with 15 points, 32 total attacks and a set winning kill,&nbsp;Olivia Moten-Schell&nbsp;with 12 points, 12 kills (tied with Hurtado) and 20 total kills,&nbsp;Chandler Hageman&nbsp;with eight and a half points, 13 total attacks, and seven kills, and&nbsp;Amelia Berg&nbsp;with six kills, seven digs, and 12 total attacks. Other players of note are&nbsp;Karli Noble&nbsp;and&nbsp;Rhiannon Nez, each of whom played in all three sets. Noble had 16 digs and three service aces while Nez had eight points, five blocks, five kills, and four block assists. &nbsp; Colorado Springs, Colo.&nbsp;– The Chadron State College volleyball team suffered a defeat against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Thursday night in four sets, 25-16, 20-25, 25-13, 25-18.&nbsp; This was the first contest of the 2020 season for the Eagles who now hold a 0-1 record. The first set for the Eagles was a struggle until the end. For the majority of the set, the Eagles held the Mountain Lions to no more than a two- or three-point deficit. It was not until nearing the end of the set where the opponents began to widen their lead, ultimately winning the set 25-16. Although the first set got away from them, Chadron State had several great blocks. In order to win their 15th&nbsp;point, the Eagles staved off many attempts by keeping calm, communicating, and setting up huge blocks in order to come out of the volley with the point. Once play was slowed down, the Eagles were able to communicate and reset. Chadron earned the first point of the second set and did not give up the lead for several points. Until then, they had either led or tied, proving even further how evenly matched the squads were. UCCS found a way to come back at 6-5 and maintained the lead for some time after that. However, the Eagles maintained a valiant effort and regained the lead at 17-18. At any given moment in the set, the largest lead never exceeded four points whether for the home or away team. That is, until 20-24 when the Eagles went on to win the match point on a great hit by&nbsp;<a href="https://chadroneagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4334">Aracely Hernandez</a>. The Eagles earned a comeback win at 20-25 and evened play one set to one set. In the third set, the away team scored the first point, but it was not be a fruitful set. Although there was some back and forth for the first ten points, the Mountain Lions ran away with the set after 11-10. Chadron State went into a scoring drought and only scored three more times after that, allowing the largest lead to reach 11 points at 23-12. This lead was sufficient enough for Colorado Springs to secure the set 25-12. The final set was as challenging as the rest for the Eagles. After earning the first point, UCCS found its largest lead with eight points at 20-12. There was some hope for the visitors when they pulled with two points at 11-9 but that hope would soon diminish. The Mountain Lions won the set 25-18 Freshman&nbsp;Rhiannon Nez&nbsp;led the team with seven kills with&nbsp;Olivia Moten-Schell&nbsp;close behind with six. The Eagles led all the way, although their 16-point lead with 3:51 left in the first half was whittled down to just 32-24 at halftime.&nbsp; The difference remained in single digits early in the second half before Chadron State warmed up again and they eventually went ahead by 21 with six minutes left in the second half. The Eagles shot 56 percent in the second half, including a 7 of 12 performance on 3-pointers. Overall, Chadron State hit 51.8 percent (29-56) from the field and 9 of 20 from behind the arc.&nbsp; Black Hills shot 56.1 percent (23-41) from the field, but was just 4 of 13 from long range and had 15 fewer field goal tries than the hosts. The Eagles' defense came up with 13 steals and the Yellow Jackets committed 27 turnovers in the fast-paced contest.&nbsp; CSC had 17 turnovers. CSC crushes Black Hills State with smothering defense

&nbsp; CHADRON, Neb. – January 26, 2020 --&nbsp;The Chadron State Eagles women's basketball team opened its first home match with fans at the Chicoine Center with a 65-52 loss to the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets. While leading early in the game and trailing by only one point at the half, it would not be enough for the Eagles to secure their first win of the season. CSC fell to 0-7 on the season, all in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while BHSU improved to 7-4. The Eagles led in the first quarter 12-10 but the Yellow Jackets fought hard. By the end of the first half, the Eagles were trailing by one point, 22-23.&nbsp;Jori Peters&nbsp;led the Eagles in scoring with eight points, hitting 2-for-4 three-pointers followed closely by&nbsp;Rachel Henkle&nbsp;with six points and&nbsp;Ashayla Powers&nbsp;with five. The first half was littered with turnovers with both teams being responsible for seven a piece in the first quarter and Chadron with four in the second quarter while Black Hills State managed to hold it to only one. It would be 11 points off turnovers in the first quarter and 16 in the second for BHSU. With only seven players dressing, the Eagles saw three players involved for the full 20 minutes of the first half in&nbsp;Olivia Waufle,&nbsp;Jori Peters, and&nbsp;Bailey Brooks. Black Hills State's Megan Engesser helped to revitalize the Yellow Jackets' hope in the contest shooting for 12 points, hitting 3-for-7 three-pointers. In the third quarter the Yellow Jackets furthered their lead up to 44-33, with 21 points for the opponents and only 11 for the home team. Once the visitors gained the lead at 21-20, they maintained it for the duration of the contest. The largest lead of the third quarter was 12 points, at 41-29, and 17 points for the last quarter, 56-39. The Eagles led in rebounds 7-6 and 11-6 and in offensive rebounds 3-0 and 5-2 in the third and fourth quarters respectively. They also acquired 15 second chance points. Jori Peters&nbsp;led scoring for Chadron State with 16 points in the game and 3-for-5 for three-pointers, for a clip of 60%.&nbsp;Ashayla Powers&nbsp;would follow closely behind with 14 points and 5-for-9 field goals.&nbsp;Bailey Brooks&nbsp;was the only Eagle to play all 40 minutes of the matchup. "We struggled with the press tonight," said CSC Head Women's Basketball Coach&nbsp;Janet Raymer. "We also came into the game with seven players, meaning we didn't have a lot of subs. Considering everything, we gave a good effort, but Black Hills was better tonight."
