On May 20 the Alliance Community Pharmacy was involved in a burglary.&nbsp;

Approximately $15,000 in pharmaceutical drugs were stolen.&nbsp;

According to the Box Butte County Sheriff's Department, the robbers "cut a hole in the wall" of the pharmacy, which gained them access to the building.&nbsp;

&nbsp;"We have identified suspects who are from out-of-state and are working with federal partners to apprehend them," Alliance Police Chief Philip Lukens said. "We are grateful for the technology we utilize, which aided in solving this crime. We will not tolerate out of town crime groups or local groups to victimize our community."

The Alliance Police Department is currently partnering with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in this ongoing investigation.&nbsp;

Alliance police release details on pharmacy burglary 

LINCOLN, NEB. — Summer fun is in full swing across Nebraska! As Nebraskans and visitors enjoy recreation areas across the state, troopers will be partnering with local agencies and Nebraska Game and Parks officers to keep Nebraska’s state recreation areas safe throughout the summer months.

“Nebraska’s lakes and rec areas have a lot to offer,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Whether you’re boating, swimming, fishing, or enjoying the beach, please do so safely and follow the laws and guidelines for your rec area. And as you travel to and from your spot at the lake, always have a sober driver.”

Over Memorial Day Weekend, troopers performed high-visibility patrols in the areas around Lake McConaughy and Harlan County Reservoir. Additional campaigns will take place at highly trafficked recreation areas throughout the summer.

From June 1 through August 27, troopers will be patrolling around recreation areas in southeast Nebraska as part of this summer’s effort. During these campaigns, troopers will partner with Nebraska Game and Parks officers for boat patrols and perform high-visibility patrols monitoring for impaired drivers.

This effort is made possible thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.

Troopers encourage safety around state rec areas this summer

The Route 385 Cruisers Car Club will host the 22nd Annual "Thunder on the Prairie Rod Run" car show in Alliance on June 2- 4 at Central Park.&nbsp;

The car show will run from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. featuring hot rods, trucks, classic cars, muscle cars, late models and custom vehicles.&nbsp;

385 Cruisers Car Club's Wayne Davis told Panhandle Post that the big annual event is still looking for people to register classic cars and welcomes anyone new to join the car show.&nbsp;

The annual car show brings many people to Alliance from Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota and all over the mid-west.&nbsp;

'Thunder on the Praire Rod Run' car show continues to look for entries 

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The mother of the man who killed Gabby Petito told her son in an undated letter that she would “dispose of a body” if needed because she loved him so much, according to copies of the note shared publicly for the first time this week by attorneys for Petito's parents.

The handwritten note by Roberta Laundrie that says “burn after reading” on the envelope was released after a Florida judge ruled on Wednesday that the letter could be used as evidence in a lawsuit. The Petitos sued Brian Laundrie's parents, accusing them of knowing that their son had murdered Gabby Petito and helping him with the coverup for nearly a month before her body was found in western Wyoming in September 2021, causing mental anguish, pain and suffering.

The letter reads in part: “We will always love each other. If you’re in jail, I will bake a cake with a file in it. If you need to dispose of a body, I will show up with a shovel and garbage bags.”

Whether the letter was written before or after Brian Laundrie strangled Petito is in dispute between the parents.

Roberta Laundrie claims in a sworn statement in the Florida case that she gave it to her son just before he and Petito left on a cross-country van trip in early June 2021.

Roberta Laundrie and her son were having difficulties in their relationship at the time, three months before Brian Laundrie, 23, killed Petito, 22, the court-filed statement said.

“I was trying to connect with Brian and repair our relationship as he was planning to leave home," the statement said. “I had hoped this letter would remind him how much I loved him.”

The Petito family expressed doubt about Roberta Laundrie’s claimed timing of her letter, suggesting it was in fact written after Petito’s death.

A “reasonable inference” may be made from the letter that Roberta Laundrie knew of Petito’s demise when the Laundries issued a statement Sept. 14, 2021 — five days before her body was found — saying they hoped she would be reunited with her family, the Petito family said in a statement Thursday.

“We look forward to having a jury determine when the letter was written,” the statement reads.

A search for Brian Laundrie ended with his suicide and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/florida-8d1dcb0c133eb63e6be8f5335ca5f8ad">discovery of his body</a>&nbsp;in a Florida nature preserve in October 2021.

The letter “may appear to be unfortunately worded, but that was never its intention,” the Laundries' attorney, Matthew Luka, wrote in a March motion trying to persuade the judge not to allow the letter to be used in the case.

Along with the statements about disposing of a body and “a cake with a file in it,” Roberta Laundrie's letter tells her son she would “get new guts” if he said he hated hers, and watch the skies for his return if he ever flew to the moon, Luka pointed out in an emailed statement Friday.

The statements were written before the van trip and “demonstrably not intended to be serious” because they “are not events that would realistically occur,” Luka said.

Roberta Laundrie added Friday in a statement through her attorney: “Although I chose words that I thought would be impactful with Brian given our relationship, the letter was in no way related to Gabby.”

Brian Laundrie and Petito were engaged and traveled by van across the U.S. in the summer of 2021, visiting scenic places in Colorado and Utah before heading north. They documented their trip in detail, in real time, on social media.

Police in Moab, Utah,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/florida-utah-35317974c2ed55ba6ec0ab676b42a8dc">pulled over the van</a>&nbsp;after it was seen speeding and hitting a curb at the entrance to Arches National Park in August 2021. Petito told police she and Laundrie had been fighting. Officers separated the couple for the night and didn't pursue charges.

Almond moved to Alliance in 1977 and raised a family here with her husband Del. After retiring from Alliance Public Schools in 2011 she continued working for a local credit union.

Q: How long have you been on curbside, and why did you sign up?

Almond: Since February 2023, on the senior list (which is picked up weekly free of charge).

Almond: All of my cereal boxes, products like that, some corrugated (cardboard), newspaper, a lot of junk mail – I shred regular mail myself. Del’s gone, but . . . he had a lot of plastic pop bottles. Also, glass. I look on stuff to see if they have the recycling thing on it.

Q: How has this service influenced your opinion of recycling?

Almond: Recycling, that’s always something that’s been near and dear to us. It’s so easy and this is so simple. It’s a blessing, it’s (all the containers, etc.) hanging out on the counter. . . . With the once-a-week service it’s awesome. I’ve enjoyed it immensely.

Q: Newest thing you’ve added to the bag?

Q: Why do you feel it is important to recycle?

Almond: When you see all the stuff that ends up in the landfill or the ocean. I visited friends in Corpus Christi – all the trash in the ditches, they didn’t even pick it up. If we’re going to live on this planet, we need to treat it better. People are being more aware, I hope.

Q: Other “green” practices at your home?

Almond’s favorite place to bring things she no longer needs is the Collection Basket, operated by Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She has been “trying, but not really successful” in her aim to live with an environmentally friendly perspective. One step has been a move from buying retail bottles of water to refilling a Culligan jug. A new, more efficient furnace has been better for the environment.

Almond will opt for a “greener” alternative this summer as she has her home’s siding replaced with LP smartboard, which will not require painting and is designed to create a better barrier for insects.

The Alliance High School Band will perform at the Peach Bowl, College Football Game, December 29 in Atlanta Georgia.&nbsp; A total of 97 Band Members along with Instructors, Parents and Sponsors will travel to Atlanta and take part in the Peach Bowl Parade and other activities.&nbsp; 

The Band Members have been busy already, hosting fundraisers and have several more events planned.&nbsp; The goal is to raise 100% of the money needed for the trip.&nbsp; The Band recently received a $10,000 donation from Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad, and at last report had raised around $73,000, which is about half of the amount needed.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Post Podcast: AHS Band prepares for Peach Bowl Trip

The&nbsp;Hemingford&nbsp;Community Foundation is excited to issue grants to support the&nbsp;Hemingford&nbsp;American Legion,&nbsp;Hemingford&nbsp;Wrestling Program, and The Body Shop. Each will receive $500 to support their identified projects.

“We love seeing the innovative ideas come in to continue enhancing all&nbsp;Hemingford&nbsp;has to offer,” said Joni Jespersen, Foundation Board Member. “We are excited to support the betterment of a variety of local organizations, projects, and associations.”

The board is comprised of Jessica Davies, April Delsing, Joni Jespersen, Tonya Mayer, and Tabi Prochazka. They have been meeting monthly to serve the residents of&nbsp;Hemingford&nbsp;and the surrounding area by identifying and supporting the people, organizations, and projects that make&nbsp;Hemingford&nbsp;a great place to live, learn, work, and play.&nbsp;

These operating hours will be in effect through Labor Day weekend as staffing allows. Park grounds, including the trails, are open from sunrise to sunset year around. As a reminder, walking or biking on the Summit Road during operating hours is prohibited for safety reasons. &nbsp;

Summer Hours to start at Scotts Bluff NM 

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A judge ruled Friday that the U.S. government can&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-wildfires-retardant-pollution-lawsuit-1fa9557473357d03f01b592713afd4a3">keep using chemical retardant</a>&nbsp;to fight wildfires, despite finding that the practice&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-wildfires-retardant-pollution-lawsuit-81e195428e748bbb36116128e35c7e39">pollutes streams in western states</a>&nbsp;in violation of federal law.

Halting the use of the red slurry material could have resulted in greater environmental damage from wildfires, said U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen in Missoula, Montana.

The judge agreed with U.S. Forest Service officials who said dropping retardant from aircraft into areas with waterways was sometimes necessary to protect lives and property.

The ruling came after came after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/wildfires-forests-lawsuits-fish-montana-0e3b777d2df198826587e702b34ebb9d">environmentalists sued</a>&nbsp;following revelations that the Forest Service dropped retardant into waterways hundreds of times over the past decade.

Government officials say chemical fire retardant can be crucial to slowing the advance of dangerous blazes. Wildfires across North America have grown bigger and more destructive over the past two decades as climate change warms the planet.

More than 200 loads of retardant got into waterways over the past decade. Federal officials say those situations usually occurred by mistake and in less than 1% of the thousands of loads annually.

A coalition that includes Paradise, California — where a 2018 blaze killed 85 people and destroyed the town — had said a court ruling that stopped the use of retardant would have put lives, homes and forests at risk.

“This case was very personal for us,” Paradise Mayor Greg Bolin said. “Our brave firefighters need every tool in the toolbox to protect human lives and property against wildfires, and today’s ruling ensures we have a fighting chance this fire season.”

State and local agencies lean heavily on the U.S. Forest Service to help fight fires, many of which originate or include federal land.

Fire retardant is a specialized mixture of water and chemicals including inorganic fertilizers or salts. It’s designed to alter the way fire burns, making blazes less intense and slowing their advance.

That can give firefighters time to steer flames away from inhabited areas and in extreme situations to evacuate people from danger.

“Retardant lasts and even works if it’s dry,” said Scott Upton, a former region chief and air attack group supervisor for California’s state fire agency. “Water is only so good because it dries out. It does very well to suppress fires, but it won’t last.”

The Oregon-based group Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics argued in its&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/wildfires-forests-lawsuits-fish-montana-0e3b777d2df198826587e702b34ebb9d">lawsuit filed last year</a>&nbsp;that the Forest Service was disregarding the Clean Water Act by continuing to use retardant without taking adequate precautions to protect streams and rivers.

Christensen said stopping the use of fire retardant would “conceivably result in greater harm from wildfires — including to human life and property and to the environment.” The judge said his ruling was limited to 10 western states where members of the plaintiff's group alleged harm from pollution into waterways that they use.

After the lawsuit was filed the Forest Service applied to the Environmental Protection Agency for a permit that would allow it to continue using retardant without breaking the law. That process could take years.

Christensen ordered federal officials to report every six months on their progress.

Experts say climate change, people moving into fire-prone areas, and overgrown forests are creating more catastrophic megafires that are harder to fight.

More than 100 million gallons (378 million liters) of fire retardant were used during the past decade, according to the Department of Agriculture.

Health risks to firefighters or other people who come into contact with fire retardant are considered low, according to a 2021 risk assessment.

But the chemicals can be harmful to some fish, frogs, crustaceans and other aquatic species. A government study found misapplied retardant could adversely affect dozens of imperiled species, including crawfish, spotted owls and fish such as shiners and suckers.

Forest Service officials said they are trying to come into compliance with the law by getting a pollution permit but that could take years.

To keep streams from getting polluted, officials in recent years have avoided drops inside buffer zones within 300 feet (92 meters) of waterways. Retardant may only be applied inside those zones when human life or public safety is threatened. Of 213 instances of fire retardant landing in water between 2012 and 2019, 190 were accidents and the remainder were necessary to save lives or property, officials said.

As the 2023 fire season gets underway, California Forestry Association President Matt Dias said the prospect of not having fire retardant available to a federal agency that plays a key role on many blazes was “terrifying.”

Many areas of the Western U.S. experienced heavy snowfalls this past winter, and as a result fire dangers are lower than in recent years across much of the region.

Judge says fire retardant drops are polluting streams but allows use to continue

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — An appeals court is sending a plan to allow continued cattle grazing in a vast, mountainous area of western Wyoming back to federal forest and wildlife officials, telling them to consider limiting how many of the area's female grizzly bears may be killed for preying on livestock.

Thursday's ruling by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver sides largely with environmental groups who sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Forest Service in 2020 over female grizzly deaths — a key factor in the species' survival in and around Yellowstone National Park.

Many consider the Yellowstone region's grizzlies a conservation success story. While they remain protected under the Endangered Species Act, their numbers have surged as much as tenfold, to as many as 1,000 animals, since the 1970s.

Population growth has meant more encounters with people and livestock, however, with the bears often on the losing end. Hunters&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/grizzly-bear-wyoming-killed-hunter-1197c42c132192540b798327e7b64ecd">sometimes mistake</a>&nbsp;grizzlies for legal-to-hunt black bears or kill grizzlies in self-defense — and wildlife managers often kill grizzlies that prey on cattle and sheep.

Such deaths have been increasingly common in the Green River headwaters in the Wind River Range, where in 2019 the U.S. Forest Service granted a 10-year extension allowing almost 9,000 cattle to graze on 270 square miles (690 square kilometers) of Bridger-Teton National Forest.

The plan said wildlife managers could kill up to 72 grizzlies — or about seven bears a year — over 10 years of grizzlies continuing to attack grazing livestock. The total would be double the number of grizzlies killed in the area over the previous 20 years.

Exceeding the plan's limit, which doesn't distinguish between male and female grizzlies, could result in stricter conservation measures to protect grizzlies.

Environmental groups sued, saying the plan should specify limits on killing female grizzlies, whose numbers are especially critical to the species' success since they bear cubs.

A district court judge in Wyoming ruled against the groups in 2022 but the five groups that sued, including the Sierra Club and Center for Biological Diversity, welcomed the appeals court ruling.

“This ruling confirms that federal officials can’t sidestep the law to allow grizzly bears to be killed on public lands to appease the livestock industry," Center for Biological Diversity attorney Andrea Zaccardi said in a statement.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokesperson Joe Szuszwalak declined to comment on the ruling. U.S. Forest Service officials didn't immediately return an email request Thursday seeking comment.

Previous grazing plans for the area had put limits on killing female grizzlies, the three-judge appeals court panel pointed out, but the latest offered no explanation for not doing so again.

 A group of riders and Robyn Nicodemus, the niece of Ronald Coker who is a Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient from Alliance will be in town today. They are Planning on doing a Short Ceremony at Fairview Cemetery on today, around 10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. 

Robyn and the Legion Riders out of Gordon are riding to honor Ronald this year and Alliance will be Named a Medal of Honor city in Honor of Ronald’s heroic efforts in Vietnam. 

Alliance will be getting 4 vinyl signs.&nbsp; Here is the updated schedule for the Medal of Honor ride across Nebraska. We will ride to Lusk Wyoming on Thursday May 25th and spend the night. Friday morning May 26th we will all meet at the Covered Wagon Motel parking lot and leave Lusk Wyoming at 8:00 AM MST and ride 57.5 miles to Crawford Nebraska arriving 9.00 AM MST. Take a 20-minute break for gas and stretching. And to call the City of Alliance with a headcount of riders to be transported. Then kickstands up at 9.30 AM MST ride 57.2 miles to Alliance Nebraska. Arriving at the VFW hall at 10.30 AM MST. We will be escorted to the Fairview Cemetery by the City of Alliance Transit buses to where CMOH Recipient Ronald Coker was laid to rest. We will have an honoring ceremony along with the Alliance American Legion Color Guard. We must have a head count of how many riders we will have for the ceremony so we can arrange bus transportation to the cemetery there is 4 miles of gravel road and would not be good on a motorcycle please Call Casey Walton and reserve a seat on the bus. 308-282-2100 work 308-207-5709 cell. The Nebraska American Legion Riders are having a Legacy ride on Friday as well and will end in Valentine Friday evening and spend the night. Saturday morning May 27th we will merge with the American Legion Riders and meet at the McDonalds Restaurant parking lot on Highway 20 and have kickstands up at 9:00 AM CST. We will ride 111 miles to Oneill Nebraska and have lunch at the Holt County Annex Building at 128 North 6th street turn left on 6th street and go one block and you will see the building. The feed is Beef Brisket and all the trimmings for a free will offering. All proceeds go to a local girl having trouble with seizures we will be arriving at approx. 11:00 AM CST we will have lunch and then fuel up and meet at Cubby’s truck stop parking lot on highway 20 at 1:00 CST and exit Oneill at 1:15 CST. We will then ride 65.2 miles to Plainview stopping at Caseys convenience store for fuel and to stretch our legs. Arriving at 2:15 and leaving at 2:45. We will ride 36 miles to the Laurel Nebraska cemetery on the south side of the highway just before you get to town. Arriving approx. 3.30 CST. We will have an honoring ceremony for Gene Twiford the man responsible for the birth of the Medal of Honor Highway. The ceremony will take approx. 30 minutes. Leaving Laurel at 4:00 CST riding 45.2 miles to South Sioux City to Freedom Park arriving approx. 5:00 CST for a short ceremony to honor the Medal of Honor Recipients. And to give thanks for a safe ride. Then it’s off to the Ickey Nickle to join the 3rd ride the Thunder on the Missouri. All the riders will meet at this location and have good food and live entertainment. And spend the night at the motel of your choice and then the next morning we will all ride 7.2 miles to Sargeant Bluff Iowa and ride on the Thunder on The Missouri ride that comes back into South Sioux City. The Flyer for this ride will be posted on this Facebook page and they also have their own Facebook page for reference. Alliance – The Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance (NVCA) will be hosting its annual Memorial Day program on Monday, May 29, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. MT. Cemetery Manager Jim Goodwin will recognize the sacrifices made by service members who are interred at NVCA. St. John’s Brass will contribute to the program with the playing of patriotic music. As homage to our fallen heroes, Alliance American Legion Post 7 will conduct a rifle salute and play “Taps.” The event is open to the public. Seating is available but families are welcome to bring lawn chairs.

Chadron City Transit to offer rides to CSP Anniversary Celebration

“Look how much would have ended up in the landfill!”

At Keep Alliance Beautiful, keeping “x, y” or “z” from ending up in what everyone had referred to as the “city dump” is usually our first selling point for newbies or potential recyclers. I like to tout whatever the number of tons was that we processed the previous year. When talking to old hands at recycling we describe where the roughly baker’s dozen categories in our shop go from here.

So . . . what about everything our neighbors have/use that is not left for Spud to haul away? Throughout the rest of 2023 I plan (God willing and the creek don’t rise) to explore where “it” all comes from and where “it” all goes. Looking down this rabbit hole, I am considering a broad spectrum from the smelly mid-July Dumpster overflowing down your alley to where our time, talent and treasure goes to make our communities better places.

Like other column sprouts, this topic has been kept in the cooler waiting for the ideal conditions to grow. The fertilizer proved to be a routine stop in the alley to gather boxes from the Mission Store Inc. One of the volunteers showed us how what had been an acceptable (king?) mattress was now a soggy piece of refuse nobody would want, much less buy. Closer to the back door nearly a half dozen bedding pieces were piled – none acceptable when left after hours.

KAB Executive Director Kathy Worley called the landfill, which was unable to help as far as pick up. They were still partially closed after more than two inches of rainfall. After exploring other options for transport, she offered our old diesel truck as a possible conveyance. The next day volunteers at The Mission Store and our crew of three completed the task.

KAB and The Mission Store enjoy a strong reciprocal relationship that I have fleshed out on this weekly soapbox a time or two. A significant portion of our former downtown office contents went to the venerable thrift store. We process their cardboard almost daily, large bags of hangers and plastic sacks and whatever else they have. Not long ago, KAB delivered a tote of family photos that the Mission Store wanted to ensure found its way to grandma and grandpa. KAB has benefited from the store’s sales in the form of annual grants that enrich many not-for-profits here. Those are the highlights that come to mind.

As for this debut of “where it goes” – the above situation is an example of furnishing/large possessions that have worn out and no longer hold value. These items are not easily pieced out for the City, H&amp;H or SWANN to collect in alley or roll away containers. Taken to the landfill there is a fee for disposal by the pound. As to the example of the southbound alley between the 200 block of Box Butte and Niobrara: This is an anonymous option where it can be assumed the individuals thought these mattresses and box springs could still be sold to benefit the community. (Nobody handling them last week, however, concurred). One positive is that, as has been the case throughout any rural area, this 460-pound load was not dumped in a ditch for the county or local landowner to handle.

When my family moved to the country, dumps on your place were your business. Aging implements, scrap iron, tires – whatever – may have been in plain sight, or, more often, blended into the landscape hundreds of yards away. One such site was within walking distance and a

prime place for boys to haul back treasures. Time goes on. Trash comes into town by family vehicle or rides to the landfill in a garbage truck instead of generating heat and soot in the burn barrel. There are ramifications for illegal dumping. Overall, the environment has benefitted.

LINCOLN, NEB.&nbsp; — The summer travel season has arrived! As Nebraskans kick-off summer, the Nebraska State Patrol is urging all motorists to practice safe driving.

“Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year and our troopers will be working hard to keep Nebraska roads safe,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “With millions of people hitting the road this weekend, travelers should plan ahead for busy roadways and share the road safely.”

Troopers will be on patrol throughout the state as part of the annual&nbsp;Click It or Ticket&nbsp;campaign, which began on May 15 and runs through June 4.&nbsp;AAA is predicting more than 37 million people will be driving at least 50 miles this Memorial Day weekend.

Troopers urge safe travel for Memorial Day, summer road trips

NORTH PLATTE — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the North Platte Police Department, have arrested a person following a brief pursuit with a large box truck Tuesday night.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper observed a large box truck driving with defective lights on Highway 83 in North Platte near W. Rodeo Road. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield, jumped a curb, and fled through a parking lot. The truck then sideswiped a building and came to a stop near W. Rodeo Road and N. Sycamore Street. The driver then fled on foot and was not immediately apprehended.

The truck was determined to have been stolen from a business in North Platte. The trooper located multiple items inside the truck that belonged to the driver. Wednesday morning, the business from which the truck had been stolen reported finding a wallet where the truck had been parked. Items in the wallet matched the identifying items that had been found inside the truck.

The North Platte Police Department located the suspect and took him into custody on Wednesday. The suspect, Jeremiah Hebner, 32, of North Platte, was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving under suspension, and theft by unlawful taking $5,000+. He was lodged in Lincoln County Jail.

During the mowing season in Greenwood Cemetery, flowers, floral arrangements, or ornaments of any kind are only allowed in the containers that are attached to the marker base and provided for that purpose.

Exceptions to the above are the following:

• Three days before Memorial Day and three days after;

• During a funeral, and three days after.

If you anticipate you will not be able to return in this time period and would like your arrangement saved for an additional seven days (ten days total following Memorial Day), flower tags will be available at the Greenwood Cemetery sexton’s building. You may write your name on the back of the tag and attach it to your arrangement. All arrangements with tags will be stored alongside the shop building for one week for you to pick up.

Memorial Day reminder at Chadron Greenwood Cemetery 

WASHINGTON —The ESOP Association represents the interests of millions of Employee Owners and their companies across the nation.&nbsp;

On May 18, the organization honored Eagle Communications Chairman Gary Shorman for a career spent helping to grow employee ownership in America, with the Michael Keeling Founder’s Award.&nbsp;

The award honors an individual for their contributions to the founding of Employee Stock Ownership Programs (ESOP) and for working to elevate awareness of the benefit and value of ESOPs.&nbsp;Eagle Communications has been an employee-owned company since 1998 with employees now owning 100 percent of the company.

The award was presented at the organization's Annual Awards Ceremony during The ESOP Association’s National Conference in Washington, DC.&nbsp;

The Founder's award was created upon Michael Keeling's retirement from The ESOP Association after 28 years as President. The organization only presented this award one other time, and that was to the founder himself.

"Shorman has set a lifelong example we can all be inspired by," the ESOP Association stated. “Shorman has been a passionate advocate while serving on the organization's Board of Directors, and worked to create the organization's Silver Tsunami video series to encourage ESOP formation."&nbsp;

"It has been an honor to serve the ESOP association and be recognized with this award," said Shorman. "Helping build the Eagle ESOP and being a champion for employee owned companies has been rewarding. Employee ownership creates a unique business environment where everyone shares in the success and shares in the growth of their company."

"Shorman also chaired the organization's search committee for the first leadership transition at TEA in nearly three decades. He chaired the Association during COVID, led the way as we modernized our Board governance procedures, and has helped direct more than one hundred thousand dollars to the Employee Ownership Foundation."

"Any one of these things would be worthy of recognition, but together they exemplify a special dedication to ESOPs and future ESOP formation."
