Judith (Judi) Elaine Freed, age 74, of Chadron, Nebraska. Graveside services will be held September 6, 2023, 10:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery. Judi passed away Thursday morning, August 24, 2023, at Hemingford Community Center, after living there for several years. She was a resident near Chadron, and lived on Slim Buttes Road, with her husband John and remained there until his passing in 2008.

Judi was born September 11, 1948 in Dalton, Georgia, the second child of Marion Billy and June Delores (McCandless) Bramblett. She had six more siblings that followed, soon after.

Judi had a heart of gold. During her husband’s illness, she would drive him to and from his many’ doctors appointments. She helped him with his chemotherapy treatments. On his good days they might decide to go for a ride, just to take a look at the countryside, just to see if anything had changed from the week before. While on that drive if they were close to Prairie Winds Casino (so much better) to have a bite of lunch and maybe even win a little on the way.

Judi enjoyed reading, watching TV, star gazing but most of all she adored her two cats. Blackie and Smokey. After John’s Passing, they helped her through her grieving process.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Henry Freed, daughter Shellie Jave Poteet, sisters; Faye Corn, Marsha Babb. Her brothers; Jamie Bramblett, Bruce Bramblett, Bobby Bramblett, and Billy Bramblett.

Judi is survived by her son Phillip Jade Poteet and his children of Pleasant Grove, Georgia. Stepson’s; Christophe J. and Phillipe Freed both from San Diego, California. Sister; Cindy Sayer Boland, of Blue Ridge Georgia. She has many nieces, nephews and friends.

In leui of flowers, memorials have been established for the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society. Donations may be sent to in care of Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Shirley Ann Heiting, age 92, went to be with her Lord on August 27, 2023. She was born at Beaver Valley farmhouse on December 15, 1930, to George and Marie Serbousek. She went to Beaver Valley school and graduated from Hay Springs High School. She then travel to Omaha for one year of nursing school.

Shirley was united in marriage to Donald Heiting on September 30, 1949. To this union, five children were born, Pam, Deb, Wendy, Brett and Brad. Don and Shirley lived and raised their family on a farm south of Hay Springs. They celebrated their 60th anniversary and we’re happily married until Don‘s passing. Family was important to Shirley. She never misses kids’ concerts or games. The same went for grandkids and great grandkids.

Shirley always stayed busy. She was very involved with church and left her faith and word and action as she shared life with family, neighbors and friends. Having quite the green thumb, she grew lovely flowers and gardens. She was an accomplished seamstress who sewed beautiful clothes for her daughters and later created many quilting projects. She enjoyed her card clubs and was always ready for a game of cribbage or bridge.

&nbsp;Shirley is survived by her five children Pam (Don) Kalmbach of Austin, Texas, Deb (Lee) Rubuttom of Gering, Nebraska, Wendy (Marty) Jensen of Douglas, Wyoming, Brett (Marlene) Heiting and Brad (Susan) Heiting both of Hay Springs; 15 grand children, Kristi, Kerri, Troy Scott, Clint, Todd, Eric, Tricia, Greg, Corey, Tony, Kelly, Lindsey, Katie and Whitney; 32 great-grandchildren, and sister Marilyn Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, parents, and brother Robert.

Shirley will be missed by her loving family and many friends.

Shirley Ann Heiting (1930 - 2023)

Timothy Eugene Wills, 69, passed away peacefully in his sleep August 29, 2023 at his home near Hemingford. &nbsp;He was born on May 5th, 1954 to Harold (Bud) and Betty Wills in Alliance, Nebraska. &nbsp;His early years were spent in the Sandhills south of Lakeside with his dad working on the Ed Herman Ranch. &nbsp;He attended school at Grandview Elementary School and graduated from Alliance High School in 1972. &nbsp;

He met Kimberly Kay Ferguson during his Senior year in high school and they enjoyed a few years of dating and rodeoing together before being united in marriage on July 13th, 1975 in Alliance, Nebraska.

They began their life together with Tim working in partnership with his dad farming. &nbsp;On September 12, 1978 they became proud parents to their daughter, Kami Jean. &nbsp;On May 5, 1981 their family was complete with the birth of their son, TeeCee, and also very special because Tim got to share his birthday each and every year with TeeCee. &nbsp;

In December 1981, Tim took a ranch job for Half Circle Cattle Company, Warren and Marilyn Herman, and they moved to the ranch south of Lakeside, Nebraska spending the next 10 years enjoying ranch life in the sandhills that he loved dearly before they bought their current place just outside of Hemingford in June 1991. &nbsp;After moving to Hemingford Tim worked for a couple area farmers before taking his 30 year position at Zochol Feedlot. &nbsp;He retired from Zochol Feedlot in December 2021. &nbsp;Not long after retiring and needing something to do with his time he decided to help his brother, Mike, and nephew, Heath, off and on, on their farm and ranch until his passing. &nbsp;

Tim loved the sandhills and his time spent in them along with the fond memories created, but never did get over his fear of heights between climbing windmills, pivots, or working up in the air building a barn. &nbsp;Tim’s other happy places were in an arena, out in a pasture, or on a trail horseback. &nbsp;When the weather turned cold, and the geese started flying he enjoyed being in the goose pit with TeeCee and family or friends.&nbsp; Tim had the gift to gab and was the one who didn’t necessarily want to go places but always seemed to be the last one to leave. &nbsp;

Tim shared 48 years of marriage with his loving wife, Kim, and was the hardworking, dedicated father for his children, Kami Wills, and TeeCee (Abby) Wills and the loving, caring grandpa to his grandchildren Hayden Blumanthal, Lana Blumanthal, and Slade Harris. Also surviving him are his brothers, Mike (Kim) Wills, Bill (Candy) Wills, and sister-in-law Johana Wills, brother-in-law Chris Toedtli, brother-in-law Jay Shrewsbury, and sister-in-law Ginger Arrants as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. &nbsp;Tim also leaves behind his horse, Rope and dog, Traytyn.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Betty Wills, brother, Ross Wills, and sister, Janet Toedtli, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill &amp; Betty Shrewsbury, and brother-in-law, Jim Arrants.&nbsp;

Celebration of his Cowboy Life will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Double L Arena-Laursen Arena. &nbsp;Greg White will officiate. &nbsp;Following the celebration everyone is welcome to join us at The Westside Event Center for sharing stories, memories, and a meal. &nbsp;

Timothy Eugene Wills (1954 - 2023)

Larry P. Schnell, 77, formerly of Alliance passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

He was born on July 31, 1946, to Pete and Betty (Nuss) Schnell in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Larry grew up in Alliance, Nebraska, where he attended District 2 Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Alliance High School with the class of 1964. He then attended Chadron State College earning his Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1970. After teaching industrial arts and coaching the wrestling team for Hemingford High School until 1973, Larry began his farming career, retiring in 2011.

Larry married Pamela Fillmore on October 23, 1968, in Chadron, Nebraska. They had three children, Michael, Becky, and Cathy. Larry was a lifelong member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance where he served as an elder.

Larry was a member of the Dry Bean Growers Association Board and was recognized by Great Western Sugar Company as a top producer of sugar beets multiple times. During his years of farming in the Alliance area he raised sugar beets, dry beans, corn, hay, and wheat.&nbsp; Larry also raised cattle and hogs.

Larry enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Betty; his in-laws Walt and Jane Fillmore, his brother Kenny; his sister Judy Swesey; and his brothers-in-law Mike Sorensen, Jerry Swesey, Jim Shannon, and Tim Downey.

Larry’s survivors include his wife Pamela, his son Michael (Michelle), his daughters Becky (John) Maser and Cathy (Alfred) Fingar, his grandchildren Sofia Fox, Kyson, Kylen, and Walter Schnell, AJ (Britni) and Nick (Sierra) Maser, and Nathen (Sterling) and Jacob Fingar.&nbsp; He is also survived by three brothers, Paul (Brenda), Roy (Vonda), and Steve Schnell, and three sisters, Linda Shannon, Peggy Schnell, and Nancy Sorensen, in-laws Ruth (Mack) Rawhouser, Nancy Downy, John (Debbie) Fillmore, Mary Fillmore, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Friday, September 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance with inurnment in the church columbarium. On April 1, 1996, she married Patrick Cowan, they later divorced. She later was in a long term relationship with Ronnie Judd, they were together for 20 years!

Survivors include daughter Chantel and Kevin and grandchildren Alexander and Kiera McCathern; son Scott, Jr and Michelle (Tow) and grandchildren Justin and Hanna Van Winkle; son Joeseph and grandchildren Shevelle, Novalynn and Bentley Van Winkle; daughter Natausha (Cowan) and spouse Skylar Brannan and grandchildren Liam Cowan and Lili Meyer; step children Sara (Tommy) Judd, Josh Keller, Veronica Judd, Michaela Miller, Jacob Gonzalez, Tara North along with numerous grandchildren; mother Inez Burton, numerous siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Glen Burton, grandmother Inez Scofield, late husband Scott Van Winkle and numerous aunts and uncles.

She was a member of Campfire USA and 4-H. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, collect recipes, coloring, collecting unicorns, shopping at Dollar General, for most spending time with her grandchildren. She loved animals, going camping and spending time at the lake with family and friends. She loved holidays and made sure all the kids had gifts and smiles. She enjoyed going to Sturgis.

Debbie always wanted to make sure her family stayed connected and loved them very much.

Deborah Cowan (1965 - 2023)

Patricia Ann Howell, 78 of Alliance, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Regional West Medical Center with her family by her side.

She was born on April 4, 1945 in Alliance to Paul Joseph and Ruth Katherine (Anderson) Myszkowski. Pat was raised in Alliance and graduated from Alliance High School in 1963.&nbsp; She was an alternate for the University of Nebraska Regents Scholarship. She attended the university for one year before having to return to Alliance.

On May 23, 1965 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Dean Howell and to this union two daughters were born, Joanne Kaye and Lora Loretta.&nbsp;

In 1982 Pat returned to college at CSC through community education, night classes, and correspondence courses.&nbsp; She graduated summa cum laude in 1989 with a BS in Accounting. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was confirmed in 1958.&nbsp; As a member she served as an usher, Elder, and Deacon.&nbsp; She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 7, Knight Museum Board and Museum Partners, and the Eagles Auxiliary.&nbsp; She enjoyed many activities including breakfast with her Methodist friends, crocheting and sewing, Husker and Broncos football, and the Library Book Club.&nbsp;

Her survivors include her daughter, Lora (Steve) Sullivan of Alliance, her grandchildren, Allison Hoover (Chris George), Columbus; OH; Noah Hoover (Nate Elliot), Amherst, OH; Kathryn (Josh) Martin, Chadron; Sorcha (Josh) Colerick, Scottsbluff; and McKenna Leach, of Alliance, and her great-grandchildren, Cadence and Beckett Martin, Sophia Leach, Hendrix, Eden, and River Colerick.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her daughter, Joanna.

Memorials may be given to the Knight Museum, Alliance Spartans Baseball, Veterans State Cemetery at Alliance Foundation, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

A memorial service will be Friday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Sue Spencer officiating. Burial will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.

 </figure>Patricia Ann Howell, 78 of Alliance, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Regional West Medical Center with her family by her side.She was born on April 4, 1945 in Alliance to Paul Joseph and Ruth Katherine (Anderson) Myszkowski. Pat was raised in Alliance and graduated from Alliance High School in 1963.&nbsp; She was an alternate for the University of Nebraska Regents Scholarship. She attended the university for one year before having to return to Alliance.On May 23, 1965 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Dean Howell and to this union two daughters were born, Joanne Kaye and Lora Loretta.&nbsp;In 1982 Pat returned to college at CSC through community education, night classes, and correspondence courses.&nbsp; She graduated summa cum laude in 1989 with a BS in Accounting. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was confirmed in 1958.&nbsp; As a member she served as an usher, Elder, and Deacon.&nbsp; She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 7, Knight Museum Board and Museum Partners, and the Eagles Auxiliary.&nbsp; She enjoyed many activities including breakfast with her Methodist friends, crocheting and sewing, Husker and Broncos football, and the Library Book Club.&nbsp;Her survivors include her daughter, Lora (Steve) Sullivan of Alliance, her grandchildren, Allison Hoover (Chris George), Columbus; OH; Noah Hoover (Nate Elliot), Amherst, OH; Kathryn (Josh) Martin, Chadron; Sorcha (Josh) Colerick, Scottsbluff; and McKenna Leach, of Alliance, and her great-grandchildren, Cadence and Beckett Martin, Sophia Leach, Hendrix, Eden, and River Colerick.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her daughter, Joanna.Memorials may be given to the Knight Museum, Alliance Spartans Baseball, Veterans State Cemetery at Alliance Foundation, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.A memorial service will be Friday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Sue Spencer officiating. Patricia Ann Howell (1945 - 2023)

Jimmy Wayne Stokey was born in Lewellen, Nebraska on March 23, 1953 to Norma McNally and Vernon “Pete” Stokey and passed peacefully at home at the age of 70 on August 22, 2023. Jim married his high school sweetheart Kathy on August 20, 1971. To this union three children were born: Jason Wayne, Janell Diane, and Vernon Richard. Jim was proceeded in death by his son Jason, his sister Peggy and his parents.

Services will be Friday, September 1, 2023 at 10:00am at the United Methodist Church in Chadron, NE.

Jim and Kathy moved to Chadron when Jim enrolled at Chadron State College. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Art in 1976, he began teaching at Alliance Middle School and their daughter Janell was born that fall. While teaching and coaching football, basketball and track at Alliance, Jim was a member of the Diversion Team and worked with at risk youth, a group he has always held dear to his heart.

In the fall of 1980, Jim and Kathy moved to their hometown of Lewellen, Nebraska where Jim taught high school and coached football, basketball and track for two years. Jim decided to return to college and was accepted into the Industrial Technology Education program at Chadron State College and graduated with a Masters degree in the spring. Their son Vernon was born later that year. Jim taught Technology, Electronics and Power at Chadron State for the next 19 years. &nbsp;In 1988 Jim received the Burlington Northern award for excellence in teaching. He took a sabbatical from CSC to work toward his Doctorate in Electronics and Power Systems at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1994. His doctoral dissertation:&nbsp;An analysis of the Use of Programmable Controllers to Control an In Situ Leach Mine Wellfield&nbsp;was used to automate the Crawford, Nebraska uranium mine. He taught at CSC until he accepted a position at the Crow Butte Uranium Mine the summer of 1999.

Jim served as Senior Engineer of the Crow Butte Project – Cameco Resources in Crawford, Nebraska for 5 years and was promoted to General Manager of the Crawford mine then promoted to Vice President of Projects and Growth in Casper, Wyoming and served in that capacity until retiring in 2016. He was put in charge of the Inkai Pilot Plant in Taikonur, Kazakhstan the summer of 2001 and built the uranium mine there. Jim was honored with the Cameco Innovations Award in recognition of the innovative technology “Bicarbonate Make-up System Improvements.”

He valued his community and felt it important to share his time and expertise by serving on the Chadron City Council as Vice Mayor, the Pine Ridge Job Corp Industrial Council, and as a Scout Leader for Chadron Troup 302. He loved motorcycles and was an active member in the American Legion Riders and Guardians of the Children. He also helped plan and construct the local motorcycle track north of Chadron.&nbsp;

Jim and Kathy celebrated their 52nd&nbsp;wedding anniversary in August with family.&nbsp; More than anything, Jim’s greatest love was being surrounded by friends and family, especially during Sunday morning breakfasts at their home. He always looked for opportunities to put on his teacher hat whether it was with students, friends or grandkids.&nbsp; Many individuals benefitted from his vast knowledge of all things important and interesting.

Jim is survived by his wife Katherine of 52 years, daughter Janell and husband Jake Stewart, their children Dalton, Fletcher, Maxxton, and Layah-Lucille, son Vernon Stokey and wife Tanee’ and their children Coltryn and Alyvia. He is survived by four sisters: Linda Stokey Thompson of Minatare, NE, Pat (Marlan) Bloyd of Sioux Falls, SD, Sue (Lloyd) Spangler of Norfolk, NE, Katherine Stokey of Gering, NE, and Greg Gade (Peggy), brother in law of Lewellen, NE plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and good friends that he considered family.

Jim fought a hard fight against cancer for 5 years. He always had a positive attitude, complete trust in God’s plan, and a warm loving smile. He passed peacefully at home with his wife and children at his side.

Jimmy Wayne Stokey (1953 - 2023)

On August 26, 2023, Helen (Dietz) Erickson graced the heavens at the age of 93, after celebrating her 93rd Birthday on August 12.

Helen was born August 12, 1930 in Nekoma, North Dakota to Nellie (Lorenz) and Adolph Dietz.

Helen graduated from Nekoma High School and married Edgar Erickson following his return from World War II. They started their lives together traveling for employment opportunities in North Dakota, Illinois and landed in Alliance which they made their home.

Helen was devoted to St. Agnes Academy where she served as a cook for many years, as well as the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance where she ran bingo with Edgar. She enjoyed time with her many grandchildren and loved them all dearly. In November of 2019 the entire Erickson family gathered at her home to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Remember the memories you have of Helen's life. Her Christmas cookies, bingo at the church, Prairie Wind Casino gambling, jokes she always played on family and friends, and of course her kind, gentle spirit.

Helen is survived by her four children: Gary, Carol (Krohe), Mark and Keith; her grandchildren: Justin Erickson, Eric Erickson, Shae Erickson, Murphy Erickson, Kalin Krohe, Keldrin Krohe, Crystal Erickson, Ryan Erickson, Jason Erickson, Ava Erickson, Brilynn Erickson; and seven great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by Edgar Erickson; her sisters Marie Krom, Florence Schmidt and Elsie Heck; her brother, Robert Dietz; brother-in-law Jacob and Marie Erickson, daughter-in-law Pam Erickson and close friend Billie Pierce.

Memorial service will be located at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance on Wednesday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Matt Koperski officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Dorene M. Rice was born June 20, 1937, in Dalton Nebraska to Harvey and Esther (Ravert) Chorn. She and her twin sister Lorene were welcomed to this world by their older sister Shirley.

As a child, Dorene grew up on a farm/ranch south of Broadwater Nebraska. She attended elementary grades at country school and graduated from Broadwater High School in 1955. She was married to Don Rice on August 28th, 1956, the second couple to be married at the Broadwater Presbyterian Church. To this union, 4 children were born: Kirk, Kim, Kyle, and Karen.

Don &amp; Dorene spent most of their life in the Broadwater area where they met where many lifelong friends. Spending their time socializing, having coffee, playing cards, and attending the Saturday night dances. Dorene babysat several children in many communities over the years and served as the secretary of Browns Creek Irrigation District for 38 years. While working at Rushcreek Land and Livestock Company, Dorene cooked hundreds of meals for cowboys, hired men, and hay-crews. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling with friends and family to several destinations with highlight trips to Branson, MO and London, England. Dorene was fun loving and could find any reason to have a celebration. She thoroughly enjoyed Holidays, weekends, any time she could get together with her friends and family. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Broadwater, served on the Broadwater Cemetery Board and Broadwater Library Board.

She is survived by her children Kirk &amp; Carolyne Rice; Kim &amp; Jim Smith; Kyle &amp; Shelly Rice; and Karen &amp; Kenny Davis; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren with a set of twins on the way.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Don Rice, parents Harvey &amp; Esther Chorn, sisters Shirley Watson and Lorene Stopher.

Shirley Ann Metcalf (1930 - 2023)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, devoted mom, cherished grandmother, baby sister, and triumphant cancer survivor, Tamara S. Meter. Tami, 62, of Gering, Nebraska, peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior with her family alongside her on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Matt Hebbert officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, August 28, 2023, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to the Festival of Hope or the Scotts Bluff County Veterans Activities Fund for the annual veteran golf scramble, an event that Tami loved being a part of. Tami was born June 18, 1961, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Leo and Helen (Bauer) Keller. She received her early education at Haig School and completed her education at Gering High School, graduating with the class of 1979. She was united in marriage to Randy A. Meter on March 24, 1984. As a dedicated wife, Tami exemplified the true meaning of partnership. She stood by her husband's side through thick and thin, a source of unwavering support and boundless love. Together, they forged a bond that served as a testament to the power of love and commitment. To this union, she was blessed with her daughter, Jennifer. Her role as a mother was one she embraced wholeheartedly. Tami was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer right after her daughter was born. A true testament to her strength, Tami faced and conquered the battle against cancer. Her journey demonstrated her determination and resilience, inspiring others. Tami and Randy made their home in Bayard, Nebraska, where they raised their daughter. They moved to Gering in 2005.

Following high school, Tami held several different positions including a Paraeducator for Bayard Public Schools, a home loan servicer, and most recently found her passion working with the Veterans of Scotts Bluff County and surrounding areas at the Veterans Service office in Gering, Nebraska. You could often find Tami crocheting, bowling, crafting with her friends, or golfing with her daughter Jen. Tami and her friends also enjoyed several trips to Wendover, Nevada to gamble. Every weekend you could count on her snuggling her grandbabies. Mimi was a title she wore proudly for the past four years. She was a lifelong member of Salem Congregational Church, where she served as a Trustee for many years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She received her early education at Haig School and completed her education at Gering High School, graduating with the class of 1979. She was united in marriage to Randy A. Meter on March 24, 1984. As a dedicated wife, Tami exemplified the true meaning of partnership. She stood by her husband's side through thick and thin, a source of unwavering support and boundless love. Together, they forged a bond that served as a testament to the power of love and commitment. To this union, she was blessed with her daughter, Jennifer. Her role as a mother was one she embraced wholeheartedly. Tami was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer right after her daughter was born. A true testament to her strength, Tami faced and conquered the battle against cancer. Her journey demonstrated her determination and resilience, inspiring others. Tami and Randy made their home in Bayard, Nebraska, where they raised their daughter. They moved to Gering in 2005.Following high school, Tami held several different positions including a Paraeducator for Bayard Public Schools, a home loan servicer, and most recently found her passion working with the Veterans of Scotts Bluff County and surrounding areas at the Veterans Service office in Gering, Nebraska. You could often find Tami crocheting, bowling, crafting with her friends, or golfing with her daughter Jen. Tami and her friends also enjoyed several trips to Wendover, Nevada to gamble. Every weekend you could count on her snuggling her grandbabies. Mimi was a title she wore proudly for the past four years. She was a lifelong member of Salem Congregational Church, where she served as a Trustee for many years. Ronald Ray West, 72, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at his home in Alliance, NE.

He was born on August 27, 1950, in Alliance, to Harry and Bertha (Retke) West. He attended school in Alliance and enlisted in the army at the age of 17.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era, from September 30, 1968, until his Honorable Discharge on April 29, 1971. He then returned to Alliance and shortly thereafter began his employment with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. Before his retirement in 2002, Ron was employed with BNSF for 32 years.

Ron was known for his great sense of humor, storytelling, quick-wit, and thoughtfulness. He was very fond of life in ways that he showed through his strong love of the outdoors, including gardening and planting flowers, and through his interest in original art and music. He always found the time to pick some of his flowers and put them in a beautiful vase, even if they weren’t for him. Ron was a lover of animals, and most recently spent many mornings feeding the birds and the squirrels.

He is survived by his four children, Sherri Dawn (West) Alvarado of Scottsbluff, NE; Ryan Ray West of Missoula, MT; Clint Wayne West of Alliance, NE; and Luxie Jo West of Alliance, NE; his grandchildren, Haley Alvarado, Karley Alvarado, Billi Alvarado, Raylon West, Sylvia West, and Harper West; and his great-granddaughter, Emmarie Champion.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sister and brothers, Carol (Bernard) Gasseling of Lincoln, NE; Gary (Barb) West of Hastings, MN; and Raymond West of Grand Island, NE; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Leroy and Billy who died infancy, and Dennis West, as well as his son-in-law, Billy Alvarado.

The celebration of his life and graveside services, including full military honors, will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery, 2610 County Road 57, Alliance, NE.

Jean Maxwell, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska with her husband of 38 years, Paul J. Maxwell, Jr. at her side.&nbsp;

She was born August 2, 1938 in Vernon, Texas to Nona White and Adolph Adams.&nbsp;

In addition to her husband Paul, she is also survived by her daughter Gaye Schaefer and her son Craig Van Heuverswyn, both of Houston, Texas; her step-sons, P.J. Maxwell, III and David (Flor) Maxwell of Nashville, TN; her step-daughter, Jennifer Kimnach of Omaha, NE; and 7 step-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Jean was a loving soul who cared passionately for her family and friends; including her beloved dogs and the visiting wildlife she enjoyed feeding and protecting.&nbsp; She was a most devoted mother, who opened our worlds to possibilities she couldn’t have imagined for herself, and she was also the cool mom who built us a treehouse, taught us how to dance to rock and roll, and became our best friend.&nbsp; While we will miss her, we will hold her tenderly in our hearts always, as she held us in hers.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held and announced at a later date.

Casey James Wickham born December 24, 1994 to Michael and Angela Wickham. Brother to Adam Wickham and Stephanie Wickham. Casey was born at Box Butte General Hospital weighing a full 10 pounds 10 ounces. He went through the Alliance Public School system from Kindergarten through High School, graduating in 2014.

During his life, he lived in Alliance, NE, Pierre, SD, Los Angelos, CA, Bremerton, WA, and Spokane, WA. He learned to be a great cook at Perkins in Pierre and he also cooked for The Gathering Spot in Alliance. He had a variety of other job experiences throughout his 28 years of life. He had a great love for animals, especially with his family’s dogs and cats.

Casey prayed a prayer of salvation on June 23, 2023. He passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2023.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents George and Carol Wickham, and James Marshall, his aunt Tonya Mracek, and his uncle Tim Wickham.

He is survived by his parents, brother, sister, his grandparents, Barb Eaton and Dennis Augustus of Spokane, WA and Loraina Marshall of Rome, GA, aunts Tammy (Doug Jerke) Wickham, Terry (Roger) Kotschwar, Tessa Marshall, Sherry Greene, Julie Cornett, Jennifer (CJ) Hall, and uncle John (Penny) Wickham and numerous cousins.

"Judie" was born October 8, 1943 in Alliance, NE to Dr. E. 'Doc' Von Tour and Virginia Thieme.&nbsp; Judie loved growing up spending time with her father on Vet call.&nbsp; She eventually obtained her pilots licence just like her father and flew for Xerox out of Omaha, NE.&nbsp;

Judie was previously married to Robert sheets of Valentine, NE. Together they had Mark E. Sheets in 1966.&nbsp; Later Judie remarried to James L. Fistler of Manly, IA.&nbsp; Together they had Jennifer L. Fistler-Monroe in 1980.&nbsp; They remained married for 41 years until James passed away on Oct. 12, 2020.

Judie is survived by her son: Mark (Shonda) Sheets of Alliance; Daughter Jennifer (James) Monroe of Lincoln, NE; Grandchildren: Kayla Sheets of Alliance, NE; Madison, Mya and Mason Monroe of Lincoln, NE. Judith 'Judie' K. Fistler (Von Tour) (1943 - 2023)

Lois J. Johnson, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron, Nebraska.

Lois was born February 23, 1937 in Hay Springs, Nebraska to Arlie and Vernona (Ervin) Gilliam and lived their through her childhood.

On May 23, 1955 Lois married Harland O. Johnson in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. To this union, three children were born, Douglas, Shirley and Sharon.

In addition to being a homemaker, Lois began keeping books after they opened their business,

Alliance Motors Unlimited, on January 1, 1969. After selling their business on December 31, 1988, they moved to Whispering Pines south of Chadron where they began raising miniature horses and later moved their interest to the farm until retirement south of Chadron.

Lois was also a long term member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Chadron, NE.

Lois is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Shirley of Chadron, and Sharon (Joe) Starke of Alliance; and daughter-in-law, Dianne Johnson of Lincoln.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jamie (Matthew) Pope, Kayla (Cody) Green all of Lincoln; Michael (Mindie) Starke of Hay Springs; Tiffany (Don) McKain of Alliance; and great grandchildren, Elizabeth Pope, Anistyn and Evelyn Green, Tailyn, Rayden and Brecken Starke, and Cameron McKain; sister and brother-in-law, Rita (John) Jungck of Rawlins, Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews,

Lois J. Johnson (1937 - 2023)

Kenneth Garner was born on May 6, 1947 in Somerset, NE to the late Richard and Elizabeth Garner.

Ken joined the Marine Corps, July of 1966 until his retirement from the military in September of 1989. On May 9, 1969 he married the love of his life Deborah M. Garner. They moved to the Blue Moon Stables in Chadron, NE of 2009 after retiring from their daily jobs and renamed it “ LZone”, this started their involvement in the community.

Kenneth is survived by his daughters’ -Sheri (Randy) Russell of Ohio, Mona Hill of Maryland; Tamorah (Timothy) Brauer of Texas and son Kenneth Joe (Chris) Garner of Maryland. 11 grandchildren, 18 Grandchildren, and 4 foster grandchildren- Kayden, Mylee, Harlan, and Case Kristad. Brother’s- Gary (Phylis) Garner of Gothenburg, NE, Glenn (Stacy) Garner of Mullen, NE; Allen (Jeanie) Garner of Kearny, NE, Donald Garner of Iowa, and sister Mary Ann (Nick) Rudolff of Crawford, NE.

He was preceded in death by Luther and Mrytle Thomas (Parent-in-laws), his brother Douglas Garner; Joyce Mizner and Ruth Brown.

Kenneth Garner (1947 - 2023)

&nbsp;Beryl Marie Jenkins, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, Wyoming.

She was born in a Montana cabin near Haxby on Sunday, December 3, 1933 to Estella Bessie and Ralph Peters. Her father was a boat taxi driver for the construction crews working on the Fort Peck Dam. As a young girl, her mother, Estella, remarried to Edwin G. DeLaney and they relocated to Paris, Missouri, where she attended grade school and graduated from high school. At age of 19, she married Joe Barnett and had two boys, Micheal and Steven. Later they were separated and divorced. She eventually remarried the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Jean Jenkins on September 4, 1962 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and they moved to Springfield, Oregon. Bob worked as an airplane body repairman and there they had their only daughter, Jana Michal. Soon thereafter they moved back to the Gordon, Nebraska area, and had a son born to them in Gordon, Keith Robert. Bob owned a hay grinder for winter months and Beryl kept books for the business. They later moved the business closer to the Alliance/Hemingford, Nebraska area. Beryl held the janitorial position at her children's grade school in Berea, Nebraska and eventually took a retailing job at L.B. Murphy in Alliance until they closed doors. Beryl would drive beet and corn trucks at harvest time. She worked 15 years at the Woolrich Inc. Factory Outlet as a Floor Girl in the manufacturing part of the store. Beryl was able to retire after Woolrich closed doors. She was always busy tending to her family and many friends. She was widowed in June of 2020 and later moved to Wheatland to live with her daughter. She was always in company of family. Beryl was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her four children, two grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Hardworking and dedicated, she lived her life without regrets and was highly regarded by all that knew her. She is survived by her children, Jana (Shaun) Werkele of Wheatland, Keith Jenkins of Hemingford, Michael Barnett of Bac Lieu, Vietnam, and Steven Barnett of Wasilla, Alaska; grandchildren, Kalen Willson of Gering, Nebraska and Jacey Willson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; great-granddaughter, Arya Shell Grieser of Alliance; brother, Edwin Arthur DeLaney of Paris Missouri.  Beryl Marie Jenkins (1933 - 2023)

Herta Franziska Kosmicki, 86, died Saturday, August 19th at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance. She was born June 28th, 1937, to Katharina and Kaspar Trapp in Freising, Germany. She grew up in Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1954.

When Herta came to the United States, she was a devoted wife and mother. She purchased the Sand Hill O’ Bar and became a bar owner and businesswoman. She ran the business for many years before staying home with her youngest daughter. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance. Herta loved to bowl and was on a bowling league for decades. She also loved to travel. She visited Germany often, and she went on vacations every year. Her one regret was never getting to Hawaii. Herta was very competitive by nature and her family and friends have many funny stories about her being a poor winner and a poor loser! Playing games and cards were a staple at every family gathering. She had the most fun when she was winning, of course.

She met Bill in 1976, and they were married August 15, 1977. The first time Bill saw Herta, he said she was a “knock-out,” and he was hooked. They became a blended family, with six children between them before having their own child a year later.

Herta is preceded in death by her parents, Katharina and Kaspar, her brothers, Max, Manfred, and Norbert, her sisters, Margit, Traudl, Liz, and Lori, her daughters, Michele and Lori, her stepdaughter, Tanya, and her daughter-in-law, Liz. She is survived by her husband, Bill Kosmicki, her daughters, Trisha (Ron) Rosane, and Julie (Jeremy) Weems, her son, Ted Dillon, and her stepson, Jason (Dawn) Kosmicki. Her grandchildren are Trina Gutierrez, Hetti Galloway, Hank (Maria) Wisdorf, Ashley (Parker) Davis, Thomas Rosane, Mitchell Rosane, Isaac Weems, Luke Weems, Amber (Ben) Porath, Jacque (Alex) Miranda, Olyvia (Zachery) Shaw, and Elizabeth Wenzel. She is also survived by her best friend, Barb Cornette, many nieces, nephews, great and great-great grandchildren, and friends.

The Rosary will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance on Friday, September 1st at 7:00 pm. We would love if her family and friends would share stories and memories! The funeral will follow on Saturday, September 2nd at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.&nbsp; Father Matt Koperski will officiate and interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Ray Satchell, age 100, of rural Bridgeport went to be with his heavenly father July 27, 2023. Ray was born December 16, 1922 to Harlan and Minnie Satchell at home, delivered by his father, at the homestead where he resided the rest of his life.

Ray raised Hereford cattle, wheat and feed. He began his farm life with a team of horses and what we consider antique tools to raise corn on flat spots through out the hills. It would take him a day of hand picking sixteen acres to fill the wagon with the harvested corn. He could hitch up his team in the dark.

His dad went to the draft board because both his brothers were serving in WWII. He, being the youngest was then delegated to stay home to raise cattle and farm.

He attended country school, then Bridgeport High School graduating in 1940. He served on the fair board, was a longtime Eagles member, enjoyed square dancing, bowling, trips to Alaska, occasional gambling adventures and was a longtime member of the Presbyterian church. He was blessed with good health; running chain saws, fixing fence and climbing windmills into his 90’s.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Lynda (Larry) Sydow, Dotty (John) Erickson, and Diane Contratto; and son Michael (Luann) Satchell; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and many more great-great-grandchildren, many of them carrying on the name Ray; nieces, nephews and special family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, son Duane, daughter Beth, grandson John T, brothers Harry and Chet, and sister Violet.

In keeping with our parents’ wishes, we will have a celebration of life for Ray and Geri together on September 9, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the fellowship hall at the Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, Nebraska. Private graveside services will be at a later date.

Ray Satchell (1922-2023)

George W. Bremer, 74, of Hemingford, NE passed away on August 15, 2023 at his home after fighting an arduous battle with pancreatic cancer.

George was born November 11, 1949 to Joseph and Josephine Bremer. He was raised in Hemingford where he graduated from high school in 1967. Continuing his education at Chadron State College for one year, George then moved on to West Nebraska VOCTech in Sidney where he obtained an associate degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology.&nbsp;

George enlisted in the Navy and served from 1971 to 1975 as a 2nd engineer with P-3 Orion Anti-submarine Patrol Aircraft home ported in Brunswick, Maine. &nbsp;At the end of his service, he was classified as Petty Officer, 2nd class.

Following his service George returned to the family farm and subsequently changed careers. &nbsp;He returned to Chadron State College where he obtained a criminal justice degree. George then completed the twelve-month certification program at the academy in Grand Island to become a certified Law Enforcement Officer. &nbsp;He spent 22 years in law enforcement, three at the Hemingford Police Department, sixteen years at the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff and three years as the Police Chief in Hemingford after which he retired in 2015.

He married his loving wife, Marcia, at Deadwood, South Dakota in 1999 and gained a stepdaughter, Kellie Hanson.

George was a proud and loving father, step-father and grandpa to all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren including, his son, Andy Bremer, his wife Courtney and their children, Joseph and Charlotte, his stepdaughter, Kellie Hanson, her husband Chris Hanson, and their children Hailey Johnson, her husband Joseph and their children Charlotte and Gideon; Aaron Hanson, his wife Mikayla and their daughter Amara and Alex Hanson

He was loved and is survived by his wife, Marcia, of Hemingford; his son and stepdaughter and their families, his sister, Connie Dismer of Moline, Illinois; nephew Wayne Dismer, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth and their two boys, Jackson and Connor; great nephew Karma and his son Lazarus; great nieces Rowan and Autumn and her son Reed, as well as numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Josephine Bremer, brother-in-law Wayne Dismer, niece Christy Eubank and several aunts, uncles and cousins. &nbsp;His son Matthew tragically preceded him in death on October 10, 1989.&nbsp;

His favorite pastime was to hop on the Harley with Marcia. They had several rides north, south, east, and west. &nbsp;Rides with friends and families were the best. The longest and most enjoyable ride was through Glacier National Park, through Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. Winding through the Black Hills was always a beautiful ride.&nbsp;

A private family service will be at the Hemingford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bobcats Beating Cancer, Festival of Hope, and Jane’s Closet.

She married Larry Cole in 1965 and she became the proud mother of her only daughter, Suzanne Evett. Cindy and her family relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota for a few years before returning to Alliance in 1970. She and Larry later divorced.

Cindy decided to attend school to achieve her LPN certification. She was working as an LPN when she suffered severe injuries in an accident in 1977 that left her paralyzed. A life-changing tragedy as such may have hindered others, but not Cindy. Her strength and courage were only amplified. She never slowed her pace and she continued to live life to the fullest for the remainder of her time on earth. In fact, it was after her accident that Cindy pursued another education endeavor and completed a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, all while wheelchair-bound and raising her young daughter.

She would wear earrings to match whatever the occasion, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day or Independence Day, and shined with enthusiasm. Of course, Christmas was her favorite time of the year bringing all the things she loved together: love of God, family and friends, decorating and celebrating a joyous time.Her joyful spirit was radiated to others, and she easily made friends, many she who she remained close with her entire life. It was common for her to be out and about on Saturday nights in the company of a group of friends. She loved God and her church community. Cindy was very involved within the church and a reliable volunteer for various activities as well as a participant in bible study groups. Cindy was a volunteer Foster Grandparent at Lincoln Elementary School in Gering where she cherished her time spent with both kids and staff. Reading was one of her favorite things to do and it was even more ideal if she was sitting outdoors, soaking up the sunshine.Cindy was strong-willed, brave, and feminine. She always dressed nicely and had her hair and makeup done, prepared to face every day with a smile. Her pride and joy was “the cutest grandson ever” her grandson, Cannon, who she liked to post about regularly on Facebook.Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne (Don) Jaruzel of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandson, Cannon Cole Jaruzel, age 10, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sister, Carolyn (Roger) Jensen of Gering; nephews and niece, Chris (Barb) Jensen of Scottsbluff, Rod (Cindy) Jensen of Mead, CO, Joy (Tim) Crist of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Jared (Diana) Jensen of Omaha; her beloved cat, Trooper; many special caregivers and a multitude of friends.Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Marjorie; and her premature twin grandchildren, Stephen Everett and Grace Evett.
