Daniel R. Razo, 69, of Alliance, Nebraska passed away at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO on September 18, 2021. He was born on January 7,1952 in Alliance Nebraska to Jake and Marguriete (Freeman) Razo.

Dan graduated from Alliance High School with the class of 1970 and later in life attended Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska where he earned his ASE certification in automotive repair.

Dan was married to the love of his life Cathy Liggett for 51 wonderful years.

Dan enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching Cornhusker and Chicago Bears football, restoring cars, lifting weights, drag racing, and most of all spending time with his family.

Out of high school, Dan worked for the Alliance Times Herald before spending most of his career as a conductor on the BNSF railroad. Although he retired, he never really stopped working. Whether it was at his home in Alliance or his lake home in Lemoyne, Dan loved to stay busy. He loved to care for his garden, do yardwork, work in the garage, and above all play with his grandchildren. Dan truly was active all the days of his life and loved to interact with those closest to him. He had a big, boisterous personality with the best sense of humor. His jovial spirit, jokes, and good-natured teasing will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Razo of Alliance, his daughter, Stacey (Dennis) Hegemann of Prescott, Wisconsin; his daughter, Amy (Kenny) Pohlman of Ogallala, NE; his son, Tyson (Megan) Razo of Cheyenne, WY; and his daughter, Tiffany (Ethan) Mehne of Cheyenne, WY, grandchildren; Dalton and Jacob Hegemann of Prescott, WI; Savannah Newman of Ogallala, NE; Sebastian and Olivia Razo of Cheyenne, WY; Mya and Ava Mehne of Cheyenne, WY; a great-grandchild, Siennah Newman of Ogallala, NE as well as his sister, Linda Coupens; aunt Judy (Pete) Taylor all of Alliance, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents of Alliance, NE, an infant daughter, an infant granddaughter, and an infant grandson.

Lelagene A. Jantz, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at her home following a very brave battle with lung cancer.

Lela was born July 14, 1934 in Hay Springs, Nebraska to William and Eleanora (Wenske) Votruba.&nbsp; Lela grew up in Hemingford and graduated from Hemingford High School.&nbsp;

After graduating, she moved to Alliance and worked at Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator.&nbsp; She later moved to Dodge City, Kansas where she met her husband, Dennis Jantz.&nbsp; They were married September 15, 1957.&nbsp; To this union they welcomed three children, Tammy, Karen and Scott.

Lela worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 14 years before retiring.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing and making quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children, Tammy (Tom) Fletcher of Alliance, Karen Best of Alliance, and Scott (Jodie) Jantz of Lincoln.&nbsp; She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelly (Marc) Davies, Josh (Lori) Fletcher, Kody Fletcher, Brock (Mandie) Best, Brittany (Jake) Perkins, Bridget (Tanner) Brandt, Seth Jantz, Clair Jantz, Lydia Jantz and Sam Jantz; ten great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Shirley (Jim) Styvar of Loveland, CO, Bernice Herian of Lakeside, and Delphine (Dale) Campbell of Hemingford.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Norabelle Abbott and Annabelle Collins, her brothers, Delbert Votruba, Lloyd Votruba, Clifford Votruba, Julius Votruba and Willard Votruba.

Lelagene A. Jantz (1934 - 2021)

Ramona Graham-Dorris, Born on June 6th, 1932 at the Boots family home south of Ashby,&nbsp;Ne. to Thomas Arthur Boots and Anna Melinda (Olsen) Boots. Ramona was the 10th&nbsp;child the couple was blessed with, which included 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Ramona lived at the Boots home with her parents and attended school until the age of 10 when her family moved to Bingham, Ne. where they lived until Ramona’s graduation from high school.

On June 1st, 1949 she was wed to Roy W. Graham of Ellsworth, Ne.&nbsp; The couple welcomed two children into the world. Bruce W. Graham and David L. Graham. Ramona worked for the family business until she became the Postmaster in Ellsworth in 1960 and worked until her retirement on June 6th, 1990.

After the death of Roy W. Graham on November 18th,&nbsp;1997 Ramona moved to Lemoyne, Ne. in the spring of 1999.&nbsp; She was remarried on February 14th,&nbsp;2000 to Wilton Dorris they lived in Lemoyne, Ne. Wilton passed away November 1st, 2019.

She was preceded in death by both her parents (Thomas Arthur and Anna Melinda) and all her nine siblings Sanford Boots (Lillian), Charles “Artie” Boots (Arlene), Marvin Boots (Ethel), Eugene Boots (Bette), Gerald Boots (Ester), Bernard Boots (Edna), Agnes Christensen (Edward), Alma Leistritz (Edward "Ed), Iris Hennigh (Clarence), her husbands, both Roy W. Graham and Wilton Dorris, and 1 great grandchild Reaghan Graham.

Family she left to mourn include Sister-in-law Bette, Sons Bruce (Stephanie) and David (Kay). Her five&nbsp; grandchildren Paige Feddersen (Dave), Dustin Graham, Jeramy Graham, Tanner Graham and Kalee Sabata ( Mark). Her 7 Great Grandchildren Caitlin Feddersen, Jack Feddersen, Lena Sabata, Carson Graham, Noah Sabata, Braelynn Graham, and&nbsp; Rosalee Graham. She also left behind numerous loved&nbsp; nieces, and nephews along with many beloved Friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Romona’s request at the Lemoyne Senior Center on October 10th, 2021at 12:30p.m.&nbsp; A Private Burial service will be held at a later date.

Carl Kutschara (1963 - 2021)

Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ called Jack Jay Fester to his home in heaven on September 17, 2021.

He was born to Glen and Lillian (Blyth) Fester on September 19, 1956 in Alliance, NE. Jack was the fourth child of nine growing up with his seven brothers and one sister. Jack graduated from High School in 1974. He started dating the love of his life, Ellen Adamson, in May of 1978. The couple was married in December of the same year and made their life together in Hemingford. Spending 43 happy years together, Jack and Ellen welcomed their first child in April of 1979. Through the next 12 years they welcomed five other children. His family was his pride and joy.

Other loves included reading, history, traveling with his family, woodworking, and working with his hands .At the time of his death he was semi-retired, subbing as a mail carrier when not working on projects of his own.

Jack was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Anna, his parents, nephew Cassidy Fester, his&nbsp;parent-in-laws, Everett and Rosalie, brother’s-in-law Craig Basden and Michael Adamson, sister’s-in-law Charlene Gartner, Loretta Randolph, and Laurie Davis.

He is survived by his wife Ellen, his daughter LaTosha, his son Jason (Erica) and his daughters, Celena(Spencer) Varga, Shauna and NaKaya, his three grandsons Eron, Terrell, and Adam, his two granddaughters, Jordan and Ramona Lee, and two great grandsons Santiago and CJ. He is also survived by his eight siblings, Roy, Jerry, Dennis, Edward, Ronald, Timothy, Betty, and Kenneth, and numerous other family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hemingford Community Federal Credit Union for the future use of Hemingford Public Schools.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. Linda A. Lulow, 71, died Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Linda was born December 7, 1949 in Sterling, Colorado to Gerald and Fern (Banzhaf) Kotschwar.

She graduated from Alliance High School and later Chadron State College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

On September 26, 1980 she married Steven Lulow in Alliance, Nebraska.

Linda loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.&nbsp; She enjoyed bingo, camping with family and friends, and bowling league.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Lulow of Alliance; her daughter, Jami (John) White of Grand Island; her 2 grandsons, Keegan and Ryker White of Grand Island; and her brother, Roger Kotschwar of Alliance.&nbsp; She is also survived by 2 step-sisters; 2 step-brothers; 7 sisters-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Diana Schommer, and her step-father, Garland “Bud” Wickham.

Linda A. Lulow (1949 - 2021)

James “Jim” Andrew Irwin age 86 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska formerly of Alliance, Nebraska died Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at The Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Alliance with Pastor Gary Hashley officiating. Interment will follow at Alliance City Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior the service at the church. Visitation will be at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel Tuesday from 3-5 pm.

Jim was born on December 20, 1934 in Alliance, Nebraska to Andrew F and Edna M (Waltsey) Irwin. He received his early education in the Alliance public schools, graduating from Alliance High School. He attended Colorado State University and graduated with BS in Agriculture in 1957.

Jim grew up in the city, helping his father in the greenhouses, and later in the fields as his father invested in farm ground. He loved being a farmer and his heart was in the land. He was a true conservationist steward and was always interested in any new farming practices that would save water or enhance the soil naturally. If asked if he had a hobby he always answered “watching things grow.”

Jim married Jacqueline Stull on May 27, 1956 at the First Methodist Church in Alliance and made their home in the Alliance area for 58 years. They moved to the Northfield Retirement Community (The Residency) in 2014.

Jim was appointed by the Governor of Nebraska to be on the Upper Niobrara White Natural Resource District, and served on that board for 41 years before retiring. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 75 years and served as Trustee and Elder and loved to sing in the choir, he was a member of the Alliance Rotary Club and A Paul Harris Fellow. He had a strong faith and found great joy in serving his church and community.

He is survived by his loving wife Jacci; brothers-in-law and sisters –in-law Marian Dalton (Boise, ID), David and Marilyn Stull (Mountain View, AR), Richard Stull and Karen Siegfried (Bridgeport, NE) and Rick and Cheryl Rowle (Mountain Home, AR) and 3 generations of nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jack Dalton, Dorothy Beal Stull, Donald and Harriett Stull, niece Sandra Sautter and nephew Patrick Bronn.

He loved being a farmer and his heart was in the land. He was a true conservationist steward and was always interested in any new farming practices that would save water or enhance the soil naturally. If asked if he had a hobby he always answered “watching things grow.”Jim married Jacqueline Stull on May 27, 1956 at the First Methodist Church in Alliance and made their home in the Alliance area for 58 years. They moved to the Northfield Retirement Community (The Residency) in 2014.Jim was appointed by the Governor of Nebraska to be on the Upper Niobrara White Natural Resource District, and served on that board for 41 years before retiring. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 75 years and served as Trustee and Elder and loved to sing in the choir, he was a member of the Alliance Rotary Club and A Paul Harris Fellow. He had a strong faith and found great joy in serving his church and community.He is survived by his loving wife Jacci; brothers-in-law and sisters –in-law Marian Dalton (Boise, ID), David and Marilyn Stull (Mountain View, AR), Richard Stull and Karen Siegfried (Bridgeport, NE) and Rick and Cheryl Rowle (Mountain Home, AR) and 3 generations of nieces and nephews.Jim is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jack Dalton, Dorothy Beal Stull, Donald and Harriett Stull, niece Sandra Sautter and nephew Patrick Bronn.

Raymond Ray Stites, I passed away peacefully on Monday, October 31st, 2005 at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer.&nbsp; He was at the Nashville Nursing and Rehab facility in Nashville, Arkansas.

Raymond was born April 18th, 1936 in Picher, Oklahoma.&nbsp; He was the son of Lewis and Emmy (Lafferty) Stites.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1955 where he served his country on the U.S.S. Kawishiwi.&nbsp; He served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1957.

Raymond spent many years in the Alliance area.&nbsp; He married Ruby Krueger, now O'Connor November 16, 1972.&nbsp; To this union, two children were born.&nbsp; The oldest being John Samuel and the youngest Raymond Ray II.

Raymond spent his time doing what he loved by serving his country, hunting, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his son, Raymond (Mindy) Stites of Alliance and Tommy Ray Brown of Oklahoma.&nbsp; He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters. He was followed in death by his oldest son, John.

Memorial services will be Friday, September 24th at 1:30pm at the Veteran's Cemetery in Alliance, NE.&nbsp; Pastor Russell Saito will be officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jennifer Pat Beiber Kyle, 46, passed away unexpectedly September 5, 2021 at Baptist Hospital of Miami, in Miami Florida.

Jenny was born on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17, 1975 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance to Charles (Gene) and Phyllis (Wismiller) Beiber.&nbsp; She was the youngest of 5 children.&nbsp; She attended Saint Agnes Academy and graduated in 1993 from Alliance High School. She&nbsp; graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney before attending Nebraska Methodist College in Omaha, graduating with a degree in Respiratory Therapy in 1998. Jenny met Dylan Kyle at college in Kearney Nebraska and were married December 19, 1997 at Holy Rosary Catholic&nbsp; Church in Alliance Nebraska.

She lived in Homestead Florida with her husband Dylan and their sons, Lucas (7) and Jacob (5). She worked as a respiratory therapist at Mariners Hospital in Tavernier Florida, part of Baptist Health South Florida.

Jenny loved attending games or cheering on the Huskers. They visited Disney World in Orlando as often as possible. Opinionated, sharp-witted and strong-willed, she had a big smile that earned her the nickname "Jenn-grin" from close friends and family. Her "Jenn grin" lit up the room! We were blessed to have her in our lives if only for 46 years. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband Dylan and sons, her survivors include her sisters, Jane Moss, Sue (Gary) Moeller of Alliance, and brother Tom (Deb) Beiber of Kearney Missouri. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Aaron) Frohman, Ryan (Stephanie) Moss, Renee Moss &amp; Chris, Katie (Uriah) Flood, Shelly and Allie Moeller, Kyle (Katelynn) Debus, Justin Debus and Jennifer, and Jessica Debus, Gina (Perry) Mostek, Kim (Kirk) Dudley, Jason (Natalie) Christoffersen along with aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.

Anna Marie Fester went to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 7, 2021.

She came into this world on April 8, 1979 in Alliance, NE to Jack and Ellen (Adamson) Fester.&nbsp; Her childhood was spent in Hemingford with parents and five siblings.&nbsp; Her love of God showed through her many aspects of her life.

Anna was involved in many activities throughout school including jazz band, band, choir and swing choir.&nbsp; Upon graduating from Hemingford High School in 1997 she attended Western Nebraska Community College and obtained her nursing degree.

She spent her adult life in Alliance, NE and worked throughout the panhandle as a nurse until health reasons made it impossible to continue working.

Family meant the world to her including her three nephews, Eron, Terrell and Adam, her two nieces, Jordan and RamonaLee, her two great-nephews, Santiago and CJ and her two dogs, Sugar and Sadie

Anna is also survived by her parents, Jack and Ellen, her siblings, LaTosha, Jason (Erica), Celena (Spencer) Varga, Shauna and NaKaya as well as numerous extended family.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Glen and Lillian Fester, her maternal grandparents, Everett and Rosalie (Krejci) Adamson, as well as two aunts and one uncle on her mother’s side.&nbsp; She will be greatly missed by those who knew her and loved her.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford with Father Matt Koperski officiating.&nbsp; She will be laid to rest in the Hemingford Cemetery.&nbsp; A wake service will be Friday, Sept. 10 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Bridget Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be Friday from 1-5 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Hemingford and continue at the wake service.

Cherylinn R. “Cheri” Colson, 60, died Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Box Butte General Hospital.

She was born March 27, 1961 on the Ellsworth Air Force Base near Box Elder, South Dakota to Robert L. and Joanne R. (Moore) Long.

Cherylinn was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She married her best friend of 41 years, Bruce A. Colson on April 19, 1980 in Alliance.&nbsp; They have three children and eight grandchildren.

She loved country music, swimming and playing cards.&nbsp; She and Bruce also loved looking at the stars and enjoyed camping and fishing with their children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Colson of Alliance; her children, Bryan Colson of Mitchell (Cheryl Sinks of Bayard), Jody (Manwell) Cabarrus of Bayard and Andrea (Matthew) Lainson of Gering; her grandchildren, Katherine Colson, Kristina Colson, Cassidee Colson, Carlena Colson, William Cabarrus, Jeremiah Cabarrus, Conner Lainson and Liam Lainson.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers, Mike (Shelly) Long of Hemingford, Mark (Cheryl) Long of Alliance, Bob (Julie) Long of Alliance, Mac (Lisa) Long of Alliance and P.J. Ronald "Coach" Conley, 79, a fifty-three year resident of Burney, CA passed away on September 2, 2021 at his home.

Ron was born July 30th, 1942 in Alliance, Nebraska to Ethel and Clair Conley.&nbsp; His family moved to Redding, CA n the mid 50's where he attended and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1960.&nbsp; Ron played football and baseball in high school and went on to play baseball for Chico State his junior and senior year of college.&nbsp; Coach earned a degree in Physical Education in 1964 and received his teaching credential a year later.

Coach originally met his wife, Marie, at Enterprise High School where his request to accompany her to the Junior Prom was turned down.&nbsp; It wouldn't be until years later that they would reunite and fall in love in Chico, CA.&nbsp; Ron and Marie got married December 29, 1963 in San Bruno, CA.&nbsp; Ron went on to teach at Shandon High School for three years and during that time Ron and Marie had their son, Kevin, in 1966.&nbsp; In 1968, they moved to Burney, CA where Coach taught at Fall River High School for one year while Burney High School was being built.&nbsp; Ron and Marie welcomed their daughter, Kristi in 1969.&nbsp; Ron started coaching and teaching the same year that Burney High School opened.&nbsp; Ron coached three sports a year for the first 19 years of his career. Coach retired in 2007 after 39 years of teaching and coaching in the inter-mountain area.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Coach prided himself on always trying to be a positive role model to students and athletes.&nbsp; He instilled people to always do t he best they could do and take pride in what they did.&nbsp; Coach never met a stranger and always had time to talk to people.&nbsp; 

He was a steadfast LA Dodgers and Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and enjoyed classic cars.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He will be missed by many across numerous generations.&nbsp; Ron is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie. His children, Kevin (Angie) Conley and Kristi (Jeff) Waller.&nbsp; His grandchildren: Kayla (Erik) Brown, Brodrick Nickens, Kelsey (James) Jarrell, Olivia (Matt) Harris, Megan (Josh) Pollard and Gabby (Trevor) Leisy. His great-grandchildren: Jackson, Andrew, Bennett, Broox, Tomi, Averie and C.

Ronald "Coach" Conley (1942 - 2021)

Calvin “Pat” Strasburger was born on September 17, 1923, to William and Elsie (Pisel) Strasburger in Deer Trail, Colorado. He grew up on the family ranch near Ellsworth, Nebraska and graduated from Alliance High School in 1941. He served in the Army from 1944 - Jan 11, 1946 and was stationed in Hawaii following World War II. He returned to ranch life as soon as he was discharged.&nbsp; On December 18th,1954 he married his soul-mate Vesta DeWolfe.

Pat loved the Sandhills.&nbsp; Partnering with his two brothers Elbert and Dean, they built three beautiful ranches, that the families still operate to this day, over a century after their father William’s homestead of 1908.&nbsp; Pat made sure that the cattle and horses came first, and that they had feed and water early in the day.&nbsp; He especially loved tight fences and putting up quality hay for the winter months.&nbsp; Pat would always announce each fall “This is the best set of steers and heifers we’ve ever raised.”&nbsp; He continued to help with cattle work well into his 90’s.&nbsp; There was always time for personal and community activities, including hunting, fishing, golf, and being an avid bowler.&nbsp; &nbsp;Everyone within ear shot knew when Pat hooked a big one by his hardy laugh. &nbsp;He served on many committees including the Gordon Rural Fire department for over 49 years, the CO-Op Board, and for the past few years, was the eldest member of Pleasant Point Community Church.

Pat and Vesta enjoyed many ranch visits from their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.&nbsp; Pat is survived by his wife, Vesta Strasburger, of almost 68 years. &nbsp;Their children; Janette Strasburger Hayes (Jeff) of Neenah, WI; Mike (Bonnie) Strasburger of Ellsworth, NE; Jodie (Bruce) Fisk of Rapid City, SD; Jill (Fayette) Harwick of Alliance, NE; and Patrick (Gail) Strasburger of Rapid City, SD. &nbsp;

Their grandchildren; Todd (Serena) Strasburger of Edmond, OK; Tyler (Melinda) Strasburger of Billings, MT; Timothy Hayes of Neenah, WI; Katelyn (Ben) Lewis of Rapid City, SD; Jada Fisk of Austin, TX; Mackenzie (John) Stabnow of Alliance, NE; Saige (Jason) Rasmussen of Lincoln, NE; Sebastian (Allison) Boerke; Brittany Boerke, Kirsten (Casey) Anderson; and Tianna Boerke of Rapid City, SD. And their Great-Grandchildren; Harper &amp; Tatum Strasburger; Kennedi Strasburger; Graham, Grace, and Claire Lewis; Coy Stabnow; Gentry Walker; Oliver &amp; Noah Rasmussen; Vallie Mae Anderson; and Mason Boerke.

Preceding Calvin in death were his parents; sisters; Pearl Kroeze &amp; Ethel Andrick; brothers, Wesley, Elbert, and Dean Strasburger; and great grandson Maddox Rasmussen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday September 11, 2021, 2:00 pm at Pleasant Point Community Church, Ellsworth, NE, with burial to follow in the Pleasant Point Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday September 10, 2021, from 5 to 7 pm at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, Gordon, NE.

Calvin “Pat” Strasburger (1923 - 2021)

“Howdy Pardner” Peter R Becker, 93, went to meet his Lord the evening of August 30, 2021 at his daughters house in Alliance, NE.

Pete was born April 1, 1928, in Hyannis, NE to Felix and Minnie (Jons) Becker.&nbsp; He married Lassie Miller on February 29, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mullen, NE.&nbsp; They had 41 wonderful years together until Lassies death in 2001.&nbsp; In 2009 he married Mary Catherine Koester, and spent 11 happy years together.

Pete lived and worked his entire life on “Pete Becker Inc.”, the ranch his grandfather started over 100 years ago. Thru the years Pete increased the size of the ranch, continued raising sought after black Angus Cattle &amp; many good quality Quarter horses.&nbsp; Pete loved his cows &amp; horses and the Sandhill’s land they grazed.&nbsp; He was definitely a “Cowboys, Cowboy”

Thru his ranching career Pete was honored with several awards.&nbsp; In 2001 he was chosen as an AQHA Legacy award winner.&nbsp; In 1993 his ranch was selected to be part of the World Angus Forum.&nbsp; He was a charter member of the Rodeo Club at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.&nbsp; For several years his horses have been chosen to be part of Colorado State University’s colt breaking program “The Legends of Ranching”,&nbsp; and he was inducted into the “Sandhill’s Cowboy Hall of Fame” along with his late father, in 2014.&nbsp; Pete was active in the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association when his daughters participated, and he has been featured in articles in the “Western Horseman” magazine, the Nebraska Cattleman, and The “Quarter Horse Journal.&nbsp; He was a lifelong member of All Saints Catholic Church in Hyannis, NE.

Pete’s greatest joys in life were his family &amp; friends.&nbsp; He didn’t know a stranger and welcomed everyone into his home, especially if they could talk horses!&nbsp; The legacy Pete has left behind include his wife, Mary Catherine, his sister Jean Hargreaves, his daughters:&nbsp; Tinka (Scott) Moller, Tracey Morgan, Trudy (Kasey) Kistler, and Becky (Phil) Ruschmeyer.&nbsp; He is also survived by his harem of granddaughters:&nbsp; Heather (Chris) Seebohm, Tinka Taylor (Brett) Omar, Jordan (Brandon) Jerke, Lauren Moller, Brittany (Drew) Petersen, Brandy (Andrew) Soucie, Jaycee (Tanner) Kezar, Madison (Carlos) Guardado, Meghan Beans &amp; Molly Beans.&nbsp; Great Grands: Mikayla &amp; Macey Seebohm, Oliver Omar,&nbsp; Braelynn, Kacen, &amp; Colter Bach, Audra &amp; Ally Soucie, Addy &amp; Gavin Kezar, and Charlie Rae Guardado.&nbsp; He is also survived by his step children: Dan (Michelle) Pianalto, Nick (Olivia) Pianalto, and Marla Pianalto Brauer (Toby Geiger), and his step grandchildren:&nbsp; Kaden and Hannah Leiker, Madison, Braden &amp; Broderick Pianalto, Chase, Lane, Sarah &amp; Carissa Crabtree.&nbsp; He has also left behind many more family &amp; friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, Hyannis NE with Fr. Matthew Nash and Fr. Bryan Ernest officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Hyannis Cemetery. A rosary, wake service will be held Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. with Fr. Matt Koperski presiding at Bates Gould Funeral Home in Alliance, NE.

Fern Weinell, 91, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021 at her home in Hemingford.

Fern Weinell was born Feb 2, 1930 at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Alliance, Ne.&nbsp; to Peter Weinell and Persus (French) Weinell. She lived at 1406 Cheyenne which was on the north edge of Alliance at that time.&nbsp; There was much open ground there where the neighborhood kids got together to play Kick the Can and Capture the Flag at night despite that you might end up in the cactus growing on the prairie. Pick up baseball was played plus rafting after a big rain where the swimming pool is now located. A big garden was raised and so many rows had to be hoed each day by her and her brother before heading for the swimming pool.

She graduated from Alliance High School with the Class of 1948.&nbsp; She enjoyed all the extra curricular activities especially working on the school paper, “The Spud,” and annual “The Bulldog” as well as playing clarinet in the high school band. She especially remembered playing in the band on the cement tarmac in wool uniforms at the Dedication of the Alliance Air Base on a 103-degree day in July, 1943.Fern worked part time at Thiele Drug and the Orange Tea Room all 4 years of attending High School

AfteR attending school in Omaha, NE she married Harold P. Johnson of Hemingford on April 10, 1949 at First Presbyterian Church in Alliance.&nbsp; They lived in Omaha and Denver before returning to Alliance.&nbsp; They had four daughters, Sheila Joy, Linda Mary, Elissa Maureen, and Deanna Colleen.&nbsp; They were later divorced.

Fern’s first full time job was at the Alliance Times Herald where she was a teletype setter.&nbsp; She worked at Offutt Air Base in Omaha; for the Box Butte Co. Attorney, the Box Butte Extension Farm, Johnson Aerial Ag Service, Stickney’s Auto Supply before employment by the CB&amp;QRR She worked for the railroad as a train order operator in Alliance, Chicago, Lincoln, Brookfield, Mo; McCook, Casper and Sheridan, WY before returning to Alliance.&nbsp; She retired in 1996 after 26 years with the railroad, She, also, owned a kite store, Cloud Climbers during this time located in the Rhoad’s Building.

Fern was baptized at the First Christian Church in Alliance Jan 15, 1939 at 8 years of age where she was active in the Youth Group.&nbsp; She was a member of First Presbyterian Church between 1950 and 2012 while she was married and then transferred back to the First Christian Church. She was a Campfire and Bluebird leader for all four of her daughter’s groups a Charter Member of the BN Club, also serving on the Board of Directors, the Women’s Bowling Assoc. &nbsp;the Alliance Park Board, volunteer for Doves and RSVP.&nbsp; She enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, her pinochle club of over 35 years, watching the AHS Basketball teams and Volleyball teams as well as Husker Volleyball, Football and Basketball. Attending all the musical and sporting events of her girls, grandchildren and great grandchildren was very enjoyable and important to her She received the Charles J. Sherlock Senior Citizen Award in 1995 – 1996. Fern was proud that she never missed voting in an election from the time she was eligible to vote.&nbsp; She loved to travel and traveled in all 50 states in the US, as well as 16 countries in Europe, plus Scandinavia, Mexico, Canada and the UK. She always had 3 or 4 cats which she and Patrick, her companion, enjoyed including taking Chester in their RV when traveling.

Fern is survived by her four daughters, Sheila (Moose) Walker of Alliance, Linda Timmens of Washington D.C., Elissa Holcomb of Gillette, WY and Deanna (Tom) Wilhelm of Loveland, CO. Nine grandchildren Dan Huss, David Huss, of Alliance, Devon Walker of Hyannis, Angela Bell of Bridgeport; Amanda Chancellor of Hemingford; Chris Holcomb of Glendo, WY, Jeff Holcomb of Gillette, WY, Zachary and Kelly Wilhelm of Loveland, CO, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Fern was preceded in death by her companion of many years, Patrick Crouse; her ex-husband, Harold P. Johnson, one great grandchild, Tristan George Huss, her sister, Mary Ginn and brother, Albert Weinell and sisters-in-law, Wanda Weinell and Charlotte Weinell.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Alliance.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Fern Weinell (1930 - 2021)

Wade Everington Young passed away at home in Lancaster, CA on August 10th at the age of 57.

Wade is connected to the Box Butte County, NE through the Fodnes and Daugherty families. Wade's wife, Krista (Daugherty) Young, is the granddaughter of Walter and Ida Fodnes, the daughter of Stanley and Jean (Fodnes) Daugherty and the niece of Lyle Fodnes. Krista's brother, Kevin "Scott" Daugherty is a 1984 graduate of Hemingford High School. Her younger brother, Rev. Shaun Daugherty, is Associate Pastor at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance. Wade and Krista were married in Lancaster, California on November 22, 2003. They frequently vacationed with family in Box Butte County and greatly enjoyed their time together in Nebraska.

Wade is lovingly remembered by his wife, Krista, and his children--Kalen Baertlein (Isaac), Ashley Young (Chris Lessner), Kevin Young, and Jordyn Kleinberg--his brothers and sisters--Russ Young (Karen), Wendy Callaway (Eldon), Roy Young (Jennifer), and Deb OBrien--and his parents, Rita and Joel Gonzalez. Wade is also remembered by his nieces and nephews.

Wade was born May 25, 1964 in Glendale, California. Growing up, Wade loved sports and excelled in baseball and tennis. He attended Walnut High School and graduated in 1982. After high school, Wade attended Rio Hondo college for EMT training. He began his career with Wilson Ambulance. Wade ultimately found his calling in law enforcement. He worked as a Los Angeles County deputy sheriff for 30 years. Wade enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening and camping. He could often be found watching his favorite sporting teams play or visiting with friends and neighbors. Wade also loved to spend time in the kitchen cooking great meals for his family. He dedicated his life to serving God, his family, and his community. The visitation will be on August 28th at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s of the Valley Lutheran Church in Palmdale, California (1737 E. Ave R, Palmdale, CA 93550). The celebration of life will follow at 10:00 a.m. and will be led by Pastor Chris Hogstad.

Wade will be laid to rest at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Box Butte County, NE on Gage Rd between Hwy 385 and 2 on Friday, &nbsp;September 3, 2021.&nbsp; The graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. The family will meet at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance and depart for the cemetery at 1030 a.m.&nbsp;&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen’s Food Pantry/Supper at 6:00 Program, 1737 E. Wade Everington Young (1964 - 2021)

Alan Danbom, of Hemingford,&nbsp; passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the Morrill County Hospital in Bridgeport.&nbsp; He was 94 years of age.

Alan Phillip Danbom was born July 9, 1927 in Alliance, NE to Milton “Pete” and Grace (White) Danbom.

Alan graduated from Alliance High School in 1944. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1944 - 1946. He was a plank owner of the Seabees and held the rank of Carpenters Mate Third Class (CM3) and was stationed in Guam for the duration of World War II.

On July 14, 1951 Alan married Alice Marion Bowser and to this union four children were born:, son Charles Danbom (wife Joanne); daughters Karan (Danbom) Fisher (husband John); Carol Danbom; and Lea Ann (Danbom) Bauersachs (Late husband Keith). Alan was blessed with five grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to his children, Alan leaves behind his sisters, Dorothy Ray (late husband-Charles) and Margaret Donnelly (late husband Lane); his brothers Paul Danbom (wife Barbara) and Dave Danbom (wife Beverly) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice, his in-laws, Ellis &amp; Marion Bowser, his sister, Norma Saling (late husband Bill), his brother,&nbsp; Bill Danbom (wife Margaret), half-brother Loren Toohey, his son in-law, Keith Bauersachs and granddaughter Lacy Bauersachs.

Alan was a member of the Hemingford Congregational Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #9 for 76 years and held several offices. He was also a member of the Lions Club International Foundation serving in many offices and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He was a contributing and dedicated citizen of the Hemingford community.

Memorials may be given to the American Legion Post #9 Avenue of Flags and Memorial Wall, the Nebraska Lions Foundation or the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Fighters Association.

Graveside services with military honors will be Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hemingford Cemetery.

William “Willy” Patrick Woods, 48 of Alliance, Nebraska passed away Monday, August 23, 2021.

William “Willy” Patrick Woods was born August 14, 1973 in Alliance, Nebraska to Jerry and Sharon (Hooper) Woods. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1991.

He had a “big brother” in Robert Hicks and later Russell Woods. He also has a sister, Roxanne Smith in Denver, Colorado and a son Noel del La Cruz in Alliance, Nebraska.

He and Angela Cole had two children together Mackinley Rae and Eric Michael. When Diane Ruiz came into his life, he also welcomed Anthony, Merissa, Miranda, Stephanie and Nick.

Except for a short time in Arizona, he lived in Alliance, Nebraska and made many friends everywhere he worked.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, several aunts and uncles, cousins and foster brother.

Willy is survived by his parents Jerry and Sharon Woods of Alliance; daughter Mackinley of Alliance and son Eric of Scottsbluff. He also survived by his grandchildren Isaiah, Carter and Emma and several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

He will be missed by his family and all of his friends.

Larry Lee Forsstrom, beloved father, grandfather, husband, and brother passed away following a tragic accident.&nbsp; He was airlifted to UC Health Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO where he died with his daughter and sister by his side on August 12, 2021.

Larry was born September 7, 1941 to Ingvald (Chub) and Anna (Kohrman) Forsstrom in Alliance, NE.&nbsp; He attended rural school Districts 51 and 12 then graduated from Alliance High School in 1959.&nbsp;After graduation, he joined the Navy where he was stationed on the USS Sturgeon&nbsp;nuclear submarine. While in New London, CT Larry met Susan Power and they were married in 1966.

After 6 years in the Navy, Larry and Susan moved to Lincoln where he attended the University of Nebraska and their daughter, Anna, was born. In 1971, the family moved to Larry’s hometown of Alliance where he was employed as head of the City of Alliance Power Plant until its closure. Larry was then employed by Box Butte General Hospital as their chief engineer until his retirement.

Larry always looked forward to spending time with his family, especially drinking morning coffee with his Mom, traveling and exploring. In his later years he liked being with his military friends whether it was at a parade, riding in a military float, traveling to Hot Springs VA for appointments, visiting with friends there, or spending time around Alliance sharing stories with others. Larry was a great fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and always cheered for them—win or lose.

Larry will be greatly missed by his daughter, Anna Schild and her husband, Glen of Rapid City, SD; his grandboys, Nathan of Gillette, WY and Jacob of Rapid City, SD; his sister, Sharon Griffith and Jeff Cole; his brother, Mark Forsstrom of Osceola, IA; and his good friend, Joe Weber of Alliance.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; parents, Ingvald and Anna Forsstrom; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Griffith.

A celebration of life will be held at the Alliance City Park Shelterhouse on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Please join us to share stories and memories about Larry.

Larry Lee Forsstrom (1941 - 2021)

Betty (Anderson) Bacon, 87 of Pueblo, CO, formerly Alliance, NE passed away August 11, 2021 at her home.

She was born November 7, 1933 in Lyman, NE to Charles Wesley and Oletha (Hood) Anderson. Betty was the oldest of 3 girls. Betty and her family lived at the Sioux Ordinance Depot where her father worked, and where she later met the love of her life. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1952 and was united in marriage with Dick Bacon on April 5, 1953 in Oxnard, CA, where Dick was serving in the USAF.

Betty, Dick, and John lived in California for a short time before moving back to Hemingford, NE. In 1962, they moved to Alliance. Betty and Dick made Alliance there home until Dick passed away and Betty moved to Pueblo to be close to her sister and brother-in-law, living at Villa Pueblo. Betty made many dear friends wherever she lived and visited.

She worked at Sears in the catalog store and service department for many years, she also worked at the BPEFCU, Woolrich, and Shelter Insurance. Betty was a gifted seamstress, a fabulous cook, a devoted wife, and mother. There wasn’t much she could not do or a person she would not try to help. However, she will probably be most remembered as a devoted wife who traveled and supported Dick in his many duties in representing the Nebraska Municipalities League (Electrical), the previous Alliance Elks Lodge, and the Nebraska Elks Association. Betty and Dick made an amazing team in marriage and in life

Betty is survived by her son John (Patti) Bacon; daughters Jan (Todd) Merrick and Jeri Cole. Grandchildren and great grandchildren Alison, Jay, and Eric Bacon; Ron, Serena, Blaise, and Alyssa Janssen; Josh (Nat) Janssen and kids; Jancy (Michael) Baughman and kids; Andrew (Marilyn Novales) Merrick and kids; also, multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, who meant so much to her. She is also survived by her sister Mary Lou (Ken) Minich; sister-in-law Doris (Dwight) Briggs; and brother-in-law Neil Peterson.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, infant daughter Deborah, husband Dick, and sister Darlene Peterson.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Connect Baptist Church, 1500 N. 10th Street, Canon City, CO 81212 with Pastor Thomas Kilgore officiating. Burial will be later at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Alliance with Dick and next to beloved friends Darwin and Shirley Jespersen.
