Eva Lazo Miranda, 83, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2023. Visitation will be Thursday, September 28 from 8:00AM – 11:00 AM with a Christian Wake Service commencing at approximately 9:30AM at Bridgman Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held after at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Father Joseph Thambi officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare, Nebraska. Eva was born in Marfa, Texas on October 13, 1939 to Francisco Lazo and Geneva Moreno. She met her future husband, Ramon Ramirez Miranda, while working on a farm near Hillrose, Colorado. The couple married on October 25, 1954, in Clayton, New Mexico. They had five children: Gloria, Arthur, Elias, Alisa, and Joseph. Eva spent much of her life working as a housekeeper while she raised her and Ramon’s five children. She also worked at Gerry’s Factory in Scottsbluff until they closed. She loved to sew and often made clothes for her family, as well as many quilts that will be forever cherished by her family. She enjoyed traveling around the country. Music was a big part of her life and she enjoyed going to concerts with her son, Arthur. It was common to hear her listening to Neil Diamond, Bob Seger, Peter Frampton, Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, and others. She was preceded in death by her husband Ramon Ramirez Miranda; two of her children: Arthur (Becky) Miranda and Elias (Gloria) Miranda; her daughter-in-law Becky Miranda, as well as several brothers and sisters. Eva is survived by three of her children: Gloria (John) Ebert, Alisa (Doug) Nelson, and Joseph Miranda; her daughter-in-law Gloria Miranda; her sister, Margaret Ramirez; her brother Francisco Lazo; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Eva Lazo Miranda (1939 - 2023)

Bertha was born in Santa Fe, NM on October 30, 1932, to Willard F. and Bertha E. (Berchtold) Clark.

Bertha went to Loretto Academy in Santa Fe, until WWII broke out.&nbsp; She then moved to Los Alamos, where her father worked for the government.

When the war ended, they moved back to Santa Fe in 1947 and she graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1950.

After graduation from high school, Bertha moved to Santa Barbara, CA with her parents, and after a &nbsp;year they moved back to Santa Fe.&nbsp; Bertha then moved to Albuquerque, NM to attend the University of New Mexico. This is where she met her future husband, Robert Buchan.

Bertha and Bob eloped in Albuquerque in 1952. They were married until Bob’s death in 2000.

To this union five children were born.&nbsp; Robert Jr., Willard (Bill), Burton (Butch), Barbara Anna, and Byron.

Bertha resided in Gordon, NE from 1952 until 1981, with a few moves to other places. In 1981 Bertha moved to Rushville, NE. In 2020 Bertha moved to Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, NE and lived there until her passing September 23, 2023.

Bertha worked for Montgomery Wards in Gordon for twelve years and the Gordon Memorial Hospital for 22 years in the office where she retired in 1998.

Bertha enjoyed her children, grandchildren and their many friends. Bertha loved all people and was always accepting, and she believed that people learn so much from others and to be tolerant.

Bertha enjoyed painting and drawing, crafts, CB radio, the stars in the night sky, and always had a smile.

She is survived by her children: Butch (Rosie) of Texico, NM, Barb (Rich Schrader) of Rapid City, SD, and Byron (Kim) of Gordon, NE, her grandchildren: Heather, Skye Lee, Karie, Julie, La Shona, Jared, Justin, Ryan, Shane, Eric, Tyler, Seth, Jamie, Courtney, Micheal, and serval great grandkids, her nephew Kevin Ryan, and her niece Andrea Senutovitch

She was proceeded in death by her husband Robert, her sons Robert Jr and Willard, her grandson Beau, her parents Willard and Bertha E Clark, her in-laws Cecil and Blanche Buchan, her Sister Doris Senutovitch, her niece Sherry DeBellas, her Aunt Clara Mabry, her Uncles Victor Berchtold, Chick Berchtold, Henry Berchtold, and two infant great granddaughters.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023,10 am, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Gordon, NE. A Vigil service will be held Friday, October 13, 2023, 7:00 pm, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church.

Bertha Lena Buchan (1932 - 2023)

Dennis R. Mazanec, 76, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023 at his home in Hemingford.

He was born March 26, 1947 in Chadron, NE to Arnold and Rachel (Klein) Mazanec.&nbsp; He was a lifetime Hemingford resident and a graduate of Hemingford High School.

In 1967 he was united in marriage to Maureen O’Connor.&nbsp; To this union, 4 children, Leslie, Laurie, Lee and Larry were born.&nbsp; He later would marry Nancy Dubs on December 5, 1987.&nbsp; To this union, a daughter, Jessica was born.

Dennis served in the Nebraska Army National Guard from March 4, 1965 until he was honorably discharged on March 3, 1971.&nbsp; Beginning in his youth he worked with his father in operating Mazanec Well Service and Windmills.&nbsp; Ill health forced his retirement after nearly 50 years in that field. Dennis enjoyed his time hunting, fishing, and watching football with his family. He was member of Pheasants Forever and the NRA.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his children, Leslie Wishion of Tucson, AZ, Laurie Mazanec of Hemingford, Lee (Christine) Mazanec of Hemingford, Larry Mazanec (Sami Knots) of Whitney, NE and Jessica (Cory) Pritchard of Hemingford and a step-son, Donnie (Holly) Richardson of Powhatan, VA.&nbsp; He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alyssa M. Mazanec and his sister, Janice Bellew.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hemingford Congregational Church with Pastor Ted Dubs officiating.&nbsp; Burial with military honors will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Hemingford.&nbsp;

Carolina May Martin (1932-2023)

Iva (Ivy) Pearl Avis, age 77, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, NE.

Ivy was born May 18, 1946, to Rolland and Pearl Shoop in South Dakota, before moving to Nebraska as a child with her family.

Ivy married Clarence Avis on June 8, 1962, in Rushville, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, the late LaRee Simants, Doug Avis of Scottsbluff, and Kristy Avis of Rushville.

Ivy lived in Virginia while Clarence was in the service, they returned to the Rushville/Gordon area in 1968. They also lived in Oshkosh for five years before returning to Rushville.

Throughout the years Ivy worked at City Bakery, ran an in-home daycare both in Oshkosh and Rushville, and later the Nebraska Land Motel.

Ivy enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren, she was an amazing mother and grandmother, and friend to everyone she met. Ivy and Clarence were married for 53 years at the time he passed. The light of her life after losing Clarence was her granddaughter Miss Aubrey Danielle with whom she shared an amazing bond.

Ivy is survived by her son Doug, daughter Kristy, special niece Michele, son-in-law Larry Simants, grandchildren Alisha, Colby, and Aubrey. As well as sister Cindy (Scott) Kelley and brother Bob Shoop, and several nieces and nephews.

Ivy was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, daughter LaRee, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

 </figure>Iva (Ivy) Pearl Avis, age 77, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, NE.Ivy was born May 18, 1946, to Rolland and Pearl Shoop in South Dakota, before moving to Nebraska as a child with her family.Ivy married Clarence Avis on June 8, 1962, in Rushville, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, the late LaRee Simants, Doug Avis of Scottsbluff, and Kristy Avis of Rushville.Ivy lived in Virginia while Clarence was in the service, they returned to the Rushville/Gordon area in 1968. They also lived in Oshkosh for five years before returning to Rushville.Throughout the years Ivy worked at City Bakery, ran an in-home daycare both in Oshkosh and Rushville, and later the Nebraska Land Motel.Ivy enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren, she was an amazing mother and grandmother, and friend to everyone she met. Ivy and Clarence were married for 53 years at the time he passed. The light of her life after losing Clarence was her granddaughter Miss Aubrey Danielle with whom she shared an amazing bond.Ivy is survived by her son Doug, daughter Kristy, special niece Michele, son-in-law Larry Simants, grandchildren Alisha, Colby, and Aubrey. As well as sister Cindy (Scott) Kelley and brother Bob Shoop, and several nieces and nephews.Ivy was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, daughter LaRee, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Betty Jane (Miller) Foos, 83, of Morrill, Nebraska, gained her angel wings peacefully with her husband by her side Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Reverence Funeral Parlor, 2002 Char Ave, Scottsbluff, NE with Pastor Brad Kihlthau officiating. Betty was born at home on the farm near Minatare, NE to Henry and Amelia (Hauff) Miller on November 30, 1939. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1958.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Betty married the love of her life, Alvin Gerald Foos, on November 2, 1958.

Betty was the center of her family, the glue, the guiding light. She loved to garden and tend to her many flower beds. She was always a child of God and walked in the light of the Lord. Her family was the most important piece to her life. She would always make them their favorite meals and never forgot one birthday, anniversary, or special occasion, so personal, sharing family news and testaments of her faith. She enjoyed puzzling on her down time and listening to her favorite pastor while singing her favorite hymns. Betty was the keeper of the family recipes and generous in sharing with family! Her German dishes were among the family favorites.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a hard worker in everything she did, being a homemaker, Sunday school teacher, working at the sugar factory and a local landscaping business.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Betty is deeply loved and missed by her husband of nearly 65 years, Alvin; four sons, Richard of Riverton, WY, Randal of&nbsp;Scottsbluff, NE, Robert (Colleen) of Riverton, WY, and Ronald (Dino) of Eaton, CO; grandchildren, Heather, Brandin, Roxanne, Tyson, Ryan, Randy, Rashelle, and Ryley; thirteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Judy) Miller of Berthoud, CO and Steve (Jan) Steffensen of Columbus, OH; sisters, Sandy Daniels of Tulsa, OK, Sally (Bob) Smith of Loveland, CO, Patty (Chuck) Winkler of Scottsbluff, NE, Carolyn (Barry)&nbsp;Elliott of Grand Junction, CO,&nbsp;&nbsp;and “Tiny” Eleanor (Mike) Baker of Columbia, MO; sisters-in-law, Rhonda Miller of Boise, ID and Sharon Foos of Scottsbluff, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.&nbsp;

James E. Katen, 82, of Gering, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Inurnment with military honors will be held at a later date at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Alliance, Nebraska. Cremation has taken place in accordance with James’ wishes. James was born January 16, 1941, in Twin Falls, Idaho to Emmett and Joan (Perkins) Katen. The family relocated to Nebraska shortly after James was born and established their family farm near Chadron. James attended and graduated from Chadron Assumption High School.

He was drafted to the United States Army in July of 1964. James earned the Expert (Rifle) badge and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in July of 1966. He then enrolled at a tech school program in Fargo, North Dakota where he received a diesel mechanic certification. A few years later in 1972, James enlisted with the Nebraska Army National Guard, serving for one year.

James met Barbara Jane Tolstedt in 1967 and the couple wed on June 29, 1968, in Alliance. Three sons were born to this union: Jon, Greg, and Troy. James and Barbara made their home in Gering for approximately seven years, but when James’ father died, they moved to Chadron to take over the family farm. Hemingford was their home for a short time in the nineties, and then they moved to Alliance where they remained for ten years. James and Barbara settled back in Gering in 2010 where he resided until his passing.

James embraced the farm and ranch life, and joyfully made that his primary career throughout his lifetime. He was knowledgeable in many areas of mechanics and capable of fixing just about anything. Working on vehicles and tractors was not only a skill of his, but something he also very much enjoyed. Many lessons were taught while working on vehicle repairs and projects together with his sons. James was a valued employee during the times he worked at Cannon Bros Ford and later Lockwoods.

His interest in mechanics developed a taste in him for classic cars. James was a lover of all animals. He raised cattle and pigs as a farmer but had numerous farm and household pets over the years. Family was of most importance to James. He was a man of few words, but occasionally he would share a bit of his dry humor. His soft-hearted ways made his love always known to those dearest to him.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Barbara Katen; sons, Jon Katen, Greg (Melissa) Katen, and Troy (Tawny) Katen; grandchildren, Caitlin, Cole, Paige, Morgan, Natalie, Brooke, McKenzie, and Bennie; two brothers, Joe Katen and Duane (Sally) Katen; sister, Teresa Katen; sisters-in-law, Linda (Kim) Ahlschwede and Peggy Katen; along with other extended family members and friends.

Benjamin Lee Britton, age 58, of Chadron, Nebraska passed away September 14, 2023. Benjamin was born March 3, 1965 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Jesse and Jackie (Hoffman) Britton. Ben graduated from Yuma High School in 1982. He enlisted in the Army in 1983. He was a Military Police Canine Corp. &nbsp;at Ft. Benning, Georgia from 1984 to 1991.

Ben then returned to Colorado and worked 22 year for Keystone Resort in Transportation as a Dispatcher, Driver, and Supervisor. The 6 years at Summit Sage as a Dispatcher and Driver before coming North to be closer to family here.

Ben is proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Betty (BJ) Hunter, brothers, James Britton and Timothy (Mary) Britton. Nephew, Lee Hunter, Nieces, Lona (Tim) Meredith and Emma Britton, along with many other loved family members (too many to name).

Many loved "Uncle Ben" as he was known to most. He was always on hand to help folks when needed especially if it involved dogs. He was such an easy going fellow and seemed to settle people with his calm demeanor. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Leonard was born October 30, 1934 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Tokuzo and Sato (Endo) Sakurada. He graduated from Lyman High School in 1953.Following High School, he joined the Army in 1954, completing basic training at Fort Ord, California.

He was stationed in Korea as a wheel vehicle mechanic and later in Japan, working on a hydroponic farm. For most of his life he farmed with his brothers near Lyman, NE, and was honored many times as a high ten beet producer by the Great Western Sugar Company. He was a lifelong member of the Holy Apostles Episcopal Church. He was a beloved uncle to his numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Survivors include his brothers, Neil (Catherine) Sakurada of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Fred (Nancy) Sakurada of Morrill, Nebraska; Sister Hisaye “Pete” Okamoto of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Mae, and Alice Sakurada.

Richard "Richie" William Meier, 50, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023 surrounded by his family at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff due to injuries sustained from a UTV accident. He was born on April 26, 1973 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Richard and Kathy (Romick) Meier. He grew up in and around Alliance, farming with his family until 1992. Richie attended District 42 County School through the eighth grade and graduated from Alliance High School in 1992. After graduation, he attended WyoTech in Laramie, WY, and graduated with an Automotive Repair Degree.

Richie was married to Julie (Henton) Focken from 1998-2016; they have their daughter Anna from this union. They resided in multiple towns throughout their marriage, including McCook, North Platte, Bayard, Scottsbluff, NE, and a year in Nashville, TN. Richie currently resided in Alliance, working for Trabor Bauer Farms, which he loved deeply.

Richie spent his early years until his high school graduation and then again during the past two years farming, which was his absolute favorite thing to do. He was an exceptional mechanic and could repair cars and machinery far beyond anyone else, and he had the talent for knowing what was wrong and how to fix it. During and after high school, Richie loved racing cars and was an active member and race car driver at the Alliance Racetrack, including racing in the truck division. He received many trophies for racing during those years and cherished those memories. Other activities that Richie loved included drag racing, driving tractors, spending time at the lake, listening to music, and being on the farm.

Richie enjoyed restoring old tractors for several years and loved volunteering at the Farm and Ranch Museum in Gering, NE, where he developed great lifelong friendships. He spent his free time there and always left there with a smile; some have stated that he was born in the wrong generation on how much he loved restoring older farm machinery. Richie loved his family, friends, and, most importantly, being able to work with his hands and repair anything mechanical. His daughter Anna was his pride and joy; all will greatly miss him.

He is survived by his mother, Kathy of Alliance; 15-year-old daughter, Anna of Gering; niece, Ashly Lunbery and her daughter Brinlee of Alliance; his cousin who was like a brother to him, Neil Romick of Alliance; and many extended family members and friends.

Richie was preceded in death by his father, Richard, this past December; sister, Tania; nephew, Tyler Lunbery; grandparents, William and Esther (Kaufman) Meier, Irene Romick, and Carl Romick.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Alliance with Pastor Richard Neugebauer and Pastor Richard Mueller officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Following the services, everyone is invited back to the church fellowship hall to reminisce memories and lunch with the family.&nbsp; Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the family being present to greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Moses P. Dawn, 86, died Thursday, September 14, 2023 at his home in Alliance.

He was born September 13, 1937 in Pine Ridge, South Dakota to Ellis and Katherine (Crow) Crooked Eyes.

He married Henrietta Picket Pin in 1955 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance.

Moses worked as a farm laborer for many years before working for both the City of Alliance and Box Butte County.&nbsp; He retired in 1993.&nbsp; He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

He is survived by his children, Schuyler (Shirley) Dawn of Alliance, Lela Schmidt of Lincoln, Jerry Dawn of Alliance, Gerald Dawn of Alliance and Sharla Dawn of Lincoln.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Crooked Eyes of Porcupine, South Dakota; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren and other extended family members.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 daughters, 2 half-brothers, 1 half-sister and 12 grandchildren.

&nbsp;A Memorial service for Carla Cay Henderson Berglund will be held September 30, 10:30 am, at the Alliance United Methodist Church. Carla passed away July 24 at her home in Mesa, Arizona.

&nbsp;It is with great sadness the family of Carla Cay Henderson Berglund share her passing earlier this week, on July 24, 2023.&nbsp; It appears she simply went to sleep and woke up in a better place.&nbsp; Left to mourn are her son, Trey Berglund (fiancé Delaney Johns); daughter, Micayla; brothers Bill (Pam) and Doug (Sally); and her sister, Ann; along with nieces and nephews Jeri Massie, Gary Henderson, Shea Baird, Sage Hofer and Cody Henderson; great nieces and nephews Anthony Massie, Owen Baird, Libby Baird, Ralstyn Hofer and baby Hofer. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Carla was born to Bill and Barbara Henderson on December 22, 1966 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.&nbsp; Shortly after that she announced she wanted to be a teacher.&nbsp; Carla loved growing up on the family ranch in Sioux County.&nbsp; She attended elementary school in rural Box Butte County and high school in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1989 and began her teaching career.&nbsp; She taught one year in Ft. &nbsp; LeRoy Cooper Jr. “Coop” was a caring and kind husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend. He passed away on September 10, 2023, at the age of 83 following a short illness. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held September 24, 2023, from 2-4 P.M. at Maple Leaf Lodge 270511 CR S, Gering, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the LeRoy Ewing “Sparky” Cooper Memorial Fund.

LeRoy was born on July 2, 1940, to Lee and Ella (Williamson) Cooper in McGill, NV. Growing up on a farm outside of Wakefield, NE, hard work was the cornerstone of his character. Sixty years ago, LeRoy met the love of his life, Jean Ewing of Gering, on a first date at the movie theater. They married in 1964 and were blessed with two sons, LeRoy Ewing (Sparky) and Kevin Thomas (Tom). 

Raising his boys was the highlight of LeRoy’s life. He established Cooper Trucking in 1969 and helped pioneer the cattle hauling industry in the valley for over forty years. Along with his trucking career, he ran a successful farming and ranching operation, C&amp;C Cattle, with his son Tom. He enjoyed fishing, working on the farm with his son, playing with his grandkids, and most of all spending his days at the ranch with the cattle. Coop, reliable and patient, will be remembered for his calm demeanor and honesty. He had a smile that lit up the room and his integrity followed him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his Son Sparky in 1980; his parents and his parents in law, Tellford and Helen Ewing. LeRoy is survived by his wife of 60 years Helen Jean; son Tom (Cindy) Cooper of Gering; grandchildren Cassidy Cooper of California, Coulter (Matt) Maestas of Torrington, Bryttni (Ethan) Kerk of Gering, and T.J. Donald LaMoin Pinkerton, 90, passed away at the Chadron Community Hospital on September 6, 2023.

Don was born to Harry and Loretta (Lecher) Pinkerton on May 15, 1933 in the upstairs bedroom on the Pinkerton family farm East of Chadron, on Slim Buttes Rd.&nbsp; He rode a horse most days to a one room Rural school on Slim Buttes Rd with 3 other students and as well as attending Alpha school on Hwy 20.&nbsp; He always said he was too stupid for school and only had a 10th&nbsp;grade education.&nbsp; Don started out working on a job putting up telephone poles.&nbsp; As the skinny guy, he was the one designated to set the dynamite any time they hit rock. Don later started working for the railroad in Chadron.&nbsp; In 1953 during the Korean war he was sent to Fort Eustis VA, for 2 years as a Railway Locomotive Operator in the 702nd&nbsp;Transportation Group (Railway).&nbsp; His father Harry told him to tell the Army that he was working for the railroad, that way he would ride instead of walk.&nbsp; Well Don said, shoveling coal in a steam engine was hard work.&nbsp;

After the army Don came back to Chadron and continued working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a fireman and in 1966, became a locomotive engineer until he retired in 1986.&nbsp; Don was married 3 times, but on August 23rd 1960, he married Judith Gregory and remained married until she passed in 2021.&nbsp; Don and Judy had a combined three sons and one daughter with 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He is survived by his son Marcus (Cathy) Snyder, granddaughter Robin (Vernon) Scarrow; son Donald Ray (Donna) Pinkerton, granddaughter Bobbi (Scot VanLuvan) Deschamps; son Larry Pinkerton, grandson Orrin Pinkerton; son-in-law Wayne Mintken, granddaughter Melissa (Dave Lewis) Fox, grandson David (Anne) Fox, granddaughter Victoria Mintken;&nbsp; 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Judith Pinkerton, his daughter Beverly Mintken, and his great-granddaughter Krysteena Marie Deschamps.

Memorial Services will be held at the Chamberlain Chapel on Tuesday September 19, 2023 at 10:00 am. &nbsp;Inurnment will follow the services to Highland Care Cemetery in Dawes County, NE.

Tom was born April 2, 1953 in Chadron, Nebraska.

Tom is survived by three children, four sisters, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and more friends than anyone could count.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Wendell and Mae Walker.

&nbsp; Belinda Joy Holder, 66, a resident of Gering, went to meet her Lord and savior, on Saturday, September 2, 2023. She was surrounded by loved ones in her home after a short battle with ALS which followed her survival of colon cancer earlier this year. Cremation was chosen. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 7 at Monument Bible Church with Pastors Jeff Banks and Jake Roberts officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. Memorials are suggested to either Gideon International or The ALS Association of The Rockies.

Belinda was born May 28, 1957, in Fort Scott, Kansas and spent her childhood on the farm in Redfield, graduating from Uniontown High School in 1975. 

She married Ronald Gene Holder, the love of her life, on June 4, 1977. Together, they delighted in raising their family while serving the Lord diligently. In 1978, they moved to the panhandle of Nebraska where they began raising their daughters. In 1995, the family moved to Redfield, Kansas and remained there until Ron’s passing in 2011. Belinda then moved back to Gering and remained there the rest of her life. Throughout her adult life, Belinda served in many different capacities. Some of these included managing retail stores, thrift shops, college records, and a motel. Her ministries ranged from nursery, AWANA, grief-share, VBS, Sunday school teacher, and was an Auxiliary member of the Gideons International. Belinda attended Monument Bible Church. 

Belinda was preceded in death by her husband Ronald; daughter Jannell, who died in childhood; parents Gerald and Betty Bradbury Sr.; father-in-law Gene Holder and two brothers-in-law, Richard, and Arthur. Belinda is survived by her two daughters Jessica Holder, of Springfield, Missouri and Jennifer (Grant) Severson, of Gering, Nebraska; grandchildren, Ralph III and Elizabeth Haile, Kaylee, Kiara, Kinnzie, Keyona, and Kimberly Gannon, and Emily Severson; brothers Gerald (Irene) Bradbury Jr., James (Rachel) Bradbury; sister Clarinda (Larry) West; sisters-in-law Dixie Adams and Barbra Poppe; mother-in-law Mary Holder, as well as many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Don married Shirleigh Shebal on January 3, 1951. To this union two children were born: Cindy and Gary.

Most of their life was spent in Bennett County where they ranched, farmed and did custom haying. Due to health concerns their later years were spent in Ainsworth. Life in both places was blessed with family, wonderful neighbors, and friends.

Don enjoyed his family, the ranch and his cattle. He loved hunting and became an avid collector of Winchesters, saddles and spurs.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Shirleigh of Ainsworth; daughter Cindy Buckles of Ainsworth; son Gary (Andrea) Hines of Martin, SD; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother Kenny (Beverly) Hines of Tuthill; sister Janet (Harlan) Reckling of Nixa, MO; special family Kevin (Robin) Schuetz of Long Pine, NE, along with nieces, nephews and other family members.

Memorial Graveside Services were held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Martin Community Cemetery in Martin, SC with Pastor Martin Leeper officiating the service.&nbsp; Casket bearers were Mark VonHeeder, Tony Buckles, Kevin Heath, Grand Moreland, Christopher Juhnke, and Dave Hudson.&nbsp;

Edwin R Kutschara was born in Rushville, NE on June 25, 1955 to Rex &amp; Dolores Kutschara. Passed on &nbsp;August 29, 2023 in Chadron, NE.

Raised on the family farm with his 3 siblings, he went to Antelope country school just down the road, growing up he found his love of dirt, music &amp; horsepower. Learning how to drive at a young age &amp; how to twist a throttle on a dirt bike. &nbsp;He spent many days learning the art of farming &amp; how to ride a dirt bike which landed him in the emergency room more than once. Being a country boy, he had to drive himself to high school 13 miles away on what he thought was the speedway to town. Cars &amp; CB radios were the thing then therefore his CB handle was HOT ROD a nickname that stayed with him forever. Hot Rod sped through high school at Hay Springs High School with Rock &amp; Roll turned up. Spent his years as a farmer then a Railroader, then construction as a truck driver being a heavy hauler because that truck had the most horsepower hauling large equipment around the country and also operating large equipment on the job site. Loved spending his off time competing in a truck pull or seeing his driver win it all on Sunday.

A person that never had a cross word to say about anybody would always help out if you needed a place to stay for a while, helping with harvest or a pull out of the ditch, he would lend a hand to anyone in need. Hot Rod lost his right leg to a disease later in life ending his truck driving but not his farming or driving a pickup, still had another leg to push down on the pedal.

When diagnosed with cancer he took that fight on full speed like all the things he has in life saying “it will be alright”.

On August 3, 2023 James Diedrich Wacker entered into the house of his Lord.&nbsp; J.D. was born April 2, 1981 in Lincoln, Nebraska to James David and Anna M. (Brunsen) Wacker.&nbsp; He graduated from Hemingford High School.

He lived in Lincoln then Birmingham, AL. He then moved to Burlington, IA before ending up in Hemingford.&nbsp; He worked various jobs growing up and worked at Parker in Alliance and finally Burlington Northern Santa Fe as a machinist.&nbsp;

In August 2018 he married Wendy Ward at Sturgis, SD. He was an avid motorcyclist and car enthusiast&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his mother.&nbsp; He is survived by his father, James Wacker of Hemingford, his Godchildren, Mia R.Wacker and Jameson J. Wacker of Pensacola, FL, his brothers, Andy Wacker of Omaha, Tony (Julie) Wacker of LaVista, NE, David (Hallie) Wacker of Laramie, WY, Sean (Joelle) Wacker of Shelby, NE and Jason Wacker of&nbsp; Pensacola, FL.&nbsp; He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be Thursday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hemingford Fairgrounds Multi-purpose Hall.&nbsp; The Reverend Jonathan Seng will officiate and interment will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Multi-purpose Hall.

Judith (Judi) Elaine Freed, age 74, of Chadron, Nebraska. Graveside services will be held September 6, 2023, 10:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery. Judi passed away Thursday morning, August 24, 2023, at Hemingford Community Center, after living there for several years. She was a resident near Chadron, and lived on Slim Buttes Road, with her husband John and remained there until his passing in 2008.

Judi was born September 11, 1948 in Dalton, Georgia, the second child of Marion Billy and June Delores (McCandless) Bramblett. She had six more siblings that followed, soon after.

Judi had a heart of gold. During her husband’s illness, she would drive him to and from his many’ doctors appointments. She helped him with his chemotherapy treatments. On his good days they might decide to go for a ride, just to take a look at the countryside, just to see if anything had changed from the week before. While on that drive if they were close to Prairie Winds Casino (so much better) to have a bite of lunch and maybe even win a little on the way.

Judi enjoyed reading, watching TV, star gazing but most of all she adored her two cats. Blackie and Smokey. After John’s Passing, they helped her through her grieving process.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Henry Freed, daughter Shellie Jave Poteet, sisters; Faye Corn, Marsha Babb. Her brothers; Jamie Bramblett, Bruce Bramblett, Bobby Bramblett, and Billy Bramblett.

Judi is survived by her son Phillip Jade Poteet and his children of Pleasant Grove, Georgia. Stepson’s; Christophe J. and Phillipe Freed both from San Diego, California. Sister; Cindy Sayer Boland, of Blue Ridge Georgia. She has many nieces, nephews and friends.

Shirley Ann Heiting, age 92, went to be with her Lord on August 27, 2023. She was born at Beaver Valley farmhouse on December 15, 1930, to George and Marie Serbousek. She went to Beaver Valley school and graduated from Hay Springs High School. She then travel to Omaha for one year of nursing school.

Shirley was united in marriage to Donald Heiting on September 30, 1949. To this union, five children were born, Pam, Deb, Wendy, Brett and Brad. Don and Shirley lived and raised their family on a farm south of Hay Springs. They celebrated their 60th anniversary and we’re happily married until Don‘s passing. Family was important to Shirley. She never misses kids’ concerts or games. The same went for grandkids and great grandkids.

Shirley always stayed busy. She was very involved with church and left her faith and word and action as she shared life with family, neighbors and friends. Having quite the green thumb, she grew lovely flowers and gardens. She was an accomplished seamstress who sewed beautiful clothes for her daughters and later created many quilting projects. She enjoyed her card clubs and was always ready for a game of cribbage or bridge.

&nbsp;Shirley is survived by her five children Pam (Don) Kalmbach of Austin, Texas, Deb (Lee) Rubuttom of Gering, Nebraska, Wendy (Marty) Jensen of Douglas, Wyoming, Brett (Marlene) Heiting and Brad (Susan) Heiting both of Hay Springs; 15 grand children, Kristi, Kerri, Troy Scott, Clint, Todd, Eric, Tricia, Greg, Corey, Tony, Kelly, Lindsey, Katie and Whitney; 32 great-grandchildren, and sister Marilyn Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, parents, and brother Robert.

Shirley will be missed by her loving family and many friends.

Shirley Ann Heiting (1930 - 2023)

Timothy Eugene Wills, 69, passed away peacefully in his sleep August 29, 2023 at his home near Hemingford. &nbsp;He was born on May 5th, 1954 to Harold (Bud) and Betty Wills in Alliance, Nebraska. &nbsp;His early years were spent in the Sandhills south of Lakeside with his dad working on the Ed Herman Ranch. &nbsp;He attended school at Grandview Elementary School and graduated from Alliance High School in 1972. &nbsp;

He met Kimberly Kay Ferguson during his Senior year in high school and they enjoyed a few years of dating and rodeoing together before being united in marriage on July 13th, 1975 in Alliance, Nebraska.

They began their life together with Tim working in partnership with his dad farming. &nbsp;On September 12, 1978 they became proud parents to their daughter, Kami Jean. &nbsp;On May 5, 1981 their family was complete with the birth of their son, TeeCee, and also very special because Tim got to share his birthday each and every year with TeeCee. &nbsp;

In December 1981, Tim took a ranch job for Half Circle Cattle Company, Warren and Marilyn Herman, and they moved to the ranch south of Lakeside, Nebraska spending the next 10 years enjoying ranch life in the sandhills that he loved dearly before they bought their current place just outside of Hemingford in June 1991. &nbsp;After moving to Hemingford Tim worked for a couple area farmers before taking his 30 year position at Zochol Feedlot. &nbsp;He retired from Zochol Feedlot in December 2021. &nbsp;Not long after retiring and needing something to do with his time he decided to help his brother, Mike, and nephew, Heath, off and on, on their farm and ranch until his passing. &nbsp;

Tim loved the sandhills and his time spent in them along with the fond memories created, but never did get over his fear of heights between climbing windmills, pivots, or working up in the air building a barn. &nbsp;Tim’s other happy places were in an arena, out in a pasture, or on a trail horseback. &nbsp;When the weather turned cold, and the geese started flying he enjoyed being in the goose pit with TeeCee and family or friends.&nbsp; Tim had the gift to gab and was the one who didn’t necessarily want to go places but always seemed to be the last one to leave. &nbsp;

Tim shared 48 years of marriage with his loving wife, Kim, and was the hardworking, dedicated father for his children, Kami Wills, and TeeCee (Abby) Wills and the loving, caring grandpa to his grandchildren Hayden Blumanthal, Lana Blumanthal, and Slade Harris. Also surviving him are his brothers, Mike (Kim) Wills, Bill (Candy) Wills, and sister-in-law Johana Wills, brother-in-law Chris Toedtli, brother-in-law Jay Shrewsbury, and sister-in-law Ginger Arrants as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. &nbsp;Tim also leaves behind his horse, Rope and dog, Traytyn.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Betty Wills, brother, Ross Wills, and sister, Janet Toedtli, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill &amp; Betty Shrewsbury, and brother-in-law, Jim Arrants.&nbsp;

Celebration of his Cowboy Life will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Double L Arena-Laursen Arena. &nbsp;Greg White will officiate. &nbsp;Following the celebration everyone is welcome to join us at The Westside Event Center for sharing stories, memories, and a meal. &nbsp;

Timothy Eugene Wills (1954 - 2023)

Larry P. Schnell, 77, formerly of Alliance passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

He was born on July 31, 1946, to Pete and Betty (Nuss) Schnell in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Larry grew up in Alliance, Nebraska, where he attended District 2 Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Alliance High School with the class of 1964. He then attended Chadron State College earning his Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1970. After teaching industrial arts and coaching the wrestling team for Hemingford High School until 1973, Larry began his farming career, retiring in 2011.

Larry married Pamela Fillmore on October 23, 1968, in Chadron, Nebraska. They had three children, Michael, Becky, and Cathy. Larry was a lifelong member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance where he served as an elder.

Larry was a member of the Dry Bean Growers Association Board and was recognized by Great Western Sugar Company as a top producer of sugar beets multiple times. During his years of farming in the Alliance area he raised sugar beets, dry beans, corn, hay, and wheat.&nbsp; Larry also raised cattle and hogs.

Larry enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Betty; his in-laws Walt and Jane Fillmore, his brother Kenny; his sister Judy Swesey; and his brothers-in-law Mike Sorensen, Jerry Swesey, Jim Shannon, and Tim Downey.

Larry’s survivors include his wife Pamela, his son Michael (Michelle), his daughters Becky (John) Maser and Cathy (Alfred) Fingar, his grandchildren Sofia Fox, Kyson, Kylen, and Walter Schnell, AJ (Britni) and Nick (Sierra) Maser, and Nathen (Sterling) and Jacob Fingar.&nbsp; He is also survived by three brothers, Paul (Brenda), Roy (Vonda), and Steve Schnell, and three sisters, Linda Shannon, Peggy Schnell, and Nancy Sorensen, in-laws Ruth (Mack) Rawhouser, Nancy Downy, John (Debbie) Fillmore, Mary Fillmore, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Friday, September 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance with inurnment in the church columbarium. Larry was a lifelong member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance where he served as an elder.Larry was a member of the Dry Bean Growers Association Board and was recognized by Great Western Sugar Company as a top producer of sugar beets multiple times. During his years of farming in the Alliance area he raised sugar beets, dry beans, corn, hay, and wheat.&nbsp; Larry also raised cattle and hogs.Larry enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.Larry was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Betty; his in-laws Walt and Jane Fillmore, his brother Kenny; his sister Judy Swesey; and his brothers-in-law Mike Sorensen, Jerry Swesey, Jim Shannon, and Tim Downey.Larry’s survivors include his wife Pamela, his son Michael (Michelle), his daughters Becky (John) Maser and Cathy (Alfred) Fingar, his grandchildren Sofia Fox, Kyson, Kylen, and Walter Schnell, AJ (Britni) and Nick (Sierra) Maser, and Nathen (Sterling) and Jacob Fingar.&nbsp; He is also survived by three brothers, Paul (Brenda), Roy (Vonda), and Steve Schnell, and three sisters, Linda Shannon, Peggy Schnell, and Nancy Sorensen, in-laws Ruth (Mack) Rawhouser, Nancy Downy, John (Debbie) Fillmore, Mary Fillmore, and numerous nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be Friday, September 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance with inurnment in the church columbarium. Debbie Cowan, 57 of Gering, Nebraska passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Regional West Medical Center surrounded by immediate family.

Debbie was born on October 23, 1965 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Glen W and Inez Ash. She received her early education in the Gering Schools, graduating from Gering Senior High School.

She married Scott Van Winkle June 21, 1986, they made their home in Scottsbluff. They later divorced.

On April 1, 1996, she married Patrick Cowan, they later divorced. She later was in a long term relationship with Ronnie Judd, they were together for 20 years!

Survivors include daughter Chantel and Kevin and grandchildren Alexander and Kiera McCathern; son Scott, Jr and Michelle (Tow) and grandchildren Justin and Hanna Van Winkle; son Joeseph and grandchildren Shevelle, Novalynn and Bentley Van Winkle; daughter Natausha (Cowan) and spouse Skylar Brannan and grandchildren Liam Cowan and Lili Meyer; step children Sara (Tommy) Judd, Josh Keller, Veronica Judd, Michaela Miller, Jacob Gonzalez, Tara North along with numerous grandchildren; mother Inez Burton, numerous siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Glen Burton, grandmother Inez Scofield, late husband Scott Van Winkle and numerous aunts and uncles.

She was a member of Campfire USA and 4-H. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, collect recipes, coloring, collecting unicorns, shopping at Dollar General, for most spending time with her grandchildren. She loved animals, going camping and spending time at the lake with family and friends. She loved holidays and made sure all the kids had gifts and smiles. She enjoyed going to Sturgis.

Debbie always wanted to make sure her family stayed connected and loved them very much.
