Schuyler D. Dawn, 70, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 with his family by his side.

He was born in Alliance on January 5, 1955 to Moses and Henrietta (Picket Pin) Dawn. Schuyler was a strong believer in the Lakota Spiritual ways.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Roy Thompson of Tilden, NE; Kevin Hart, Angela White Crane of Alliance, Naomi (Arnufo) Rocha of Crete, NE , Henrietta Dawn of Alliance, Schuyler (Leah) Dawn, Jr. of Lincoln and&nbsp; Waylon (Ashley) Dawn,&nbsp; Shyanna Red Nest and Sage Schuyler Dawn of Alliance.&nbsp; He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Lela Schmidt of Lincoln, Jerry Dawn and Gerald Dawn of Alliance and Sharla Dawn of Lincoln and his Hunka Brothers, Troy and Travis Strorovich.&nbsp; He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding Schuyler in death was his parents, his daughter, Angel Dawn, his son, Isaiah Garcia and his siblings, Shane Dawn, Mildred Dawn, Blaine Brownlow and Sharon Crooked Eyes.

A one night wake service will be Tuesday, June 3 beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Calvary Assembly of God Church.&nbsp; Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m. at the church followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Schuyler D. Dawn (1955 - 2025)

Virgil Vernon Hatch was born in Custer County, Nebraska to Bennie L. and Mabel (Griffith) Hatch on July 1, 1924.&nbsp; He passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Highland Park Care Center.&nbsp; Virgil celebrated his 100th birthday with family July 1, 2024, a lifetime goal completed.&nbsp; The morning of his passing he received a WWII Celebration of Victory Medal from the State of Nebraska celebrating his service to the country.&nbsp;

Virgil grew up in Custer County, helping on the family farm and working.&nbsp;

He graduated from Lexington High School in 1943, enlisted June 9, 1943 at Ft. Crook, Nebraska and served as a Chief Clerk in the United States Army until Dec. 13, 1945.&nbsp; In 1953 he received his Pharmacy Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He met the love of his life when they were 15, Ruth I. (Diefenbach) Hatch. They were married on March 3, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Lexington.&nbsp; They had three children: Jerry, Larry and Deb. Virgil and Ruth celebrated their 74th anniversary March 3, 2020 shortly before her passing.

In 1962 they moved to Alliance, Nebraska, where they purchased their first store, Hatch Drug.&nbsp; They owned and operated many businesses in Alliance over a span of 48 years, including&nbsp;Hatch Drug, Radio Shack, Ruth’s Hallmark, Hatch’s Hallmark, The Computer Center, and Special Stitches.

Virgil had a wonderful, busy life and was the most caring person he could be.&nbsp; He was a practicing Pharmacist until the age of 84, when he retired to spend time with Ruth, family and gardening, one of his many hobbies. He and Ruth enjoyed traveling all over the world.

Virgil was an active member of Kiwanis, Methodist Men and served as the President of the Nebraska Pharmacists Association from 1978-1979

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth; brothers, Wilford Hatch, and Verl Hatch; his sister, Dorothy (Hatch) Glenn; his son, Larry Hatch; and daughter in law, Anita (Shaughnessy) Hatch.

He leaves a legacy of family, including his sister, Carol (Hatch) Dreier; his son, Jerry (Hing Wah) Hatch; his daughter, Deb (Hatch) Thiems (Rick); Grandchildren, KayYing Hatch, Karri (Hatch) Guthmiller, Tyler (Lindsie) Thiems, Ashley Dudden, Gina Garrett Rebillet and Pat Garrett; great grandchildren, Caleb (Katie) Hatch, C.J. (Hannah) Guthmiller, Cassey (Jordan) McCracken, Sean Thiems, Xavier Thiems, Chance Thiems, Brookleigh Thiems, Lainey Thiems, Aubrey Dudden, and Natalie Dudden, and Canden Marsteller; great-great grandchildren, Lukas McCracken, Miah Hatch, Lily Hatch, Ryker Hatch, Asher&nbsp;Dickenson,&nbsp;&nbsp;and Oliver Hatch; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.

We would like to thank the Highland Park Care Center for the outstanding care given to Virgil and Ruth over the past 6 years.&nbsp; They will always be a part of our family.

A celebration of Virgil’s life will be held Monday, June 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Pastor Greg Reed will officiate.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the United Methodist Church Columbarium.

Virgil Vernon Hatch (1924 - 2025)

Joe Cervantes, 72, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, Nebraska.

He was born May 4, 1953, in Scottsbluff, NE to Pedro and Julia (Salazar) Cervantes. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School and then from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. He found work the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Alliance, Lincoln, McCook, Hebron, Stanton and finally with the Natural Resource Conservation Services in Alliance, NE and stayed until he retired at 55.

He was united in marriage to Marie (Howe) Cervantes on December 26, 1975. He was a devoted family man, who loved spending time gardening, watching Husker football, and doing some occasional gambling. The greatest joy of his last two and half years was spending time with his grandson.

Joe is survived by his wife, Marie, his son Marcos, his daughter Melissa (Lance) Haas, and grandson Garrett Haas. He is also survived by his brother Danny Cervantes (Jeannie) of Scottsbluff, NE, and sisters, Helen Pina and Irene Dominguez of Scottsbluff, NE, and Adela Serrano of Miami, FL, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother and father, Pedro and Julia, his brothers Andrew, Reynaldo, and Jesse Cervantes, and his sisters Margaret Cervantes and Annie Flores.

Memorial services will be Friday, June 6, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Father Joseph Thambi officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Guadalupe Center immediately after services.

Joe Cervantes (1953 - 2025)

Ryan Eugene Engelhaupt, 50, passed away unexpectedly on May 19, 2025 at his home in Rapid City, SD.

He was born on March 9, 1975 in Alliance, NE to Robert “Bob” and Patricia (Brunkow) Engelhaupt. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1993. After graduating he went on to further his education at Chadron State College then to South Dakota School of Mines. He decided to make his home in Rapid City for more job opportunities. Through the years he worked various jobs in the computer industry earning many certificates. In 2017 he started working at KT Connections as a Systems Engineer. He truly loved his job and looked forward to going to work every day. He loved the different challenges, all his coworkers, and the weekends of golf.

Ryan was always trying new things and had a variety of hobbies. The last couple of years he was quite the golf enthusiast. Before golf, he tried out for ballroom dancing and discovered he had a passion and talent for it. He enjoyed learning all different types of dance. His favorite dance was Lindy Hop and even instructed a few classes. He enjoyed electronics, camping, hiking, welding, wood working, building legos, video games, magic cards, and movies with his son.

The best day of his life was April 14, 2003 when he became a father to his son Alex. Being a dad was his proudest moment.

Ryan was one of a kind. He was witty and had always had something funny to say. He had a great sense of humor and would make you laugh till it hurt. His smile and laugh were extremely contagious. He was a friend to everyone he met. If a baby was around you can bet Ryan would be holding them. He loved building legos with his nieces. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He will always be remembered as a great father, a wonderful son, the funniest uncle, and the best big brother!

He is survived by his son Alex, Alex’s mom Brandi of Rapid City, SD, his father Robert”Bob” Engelhaupt, his brother Brandon of Alliance, NE, his sister Cassidy (Tim)Kramer of Minatare, NE, nieces Raylyn, Brynley, and Destinee, great niece Emery, great nephew Ronan, his beloved cat Winnie Pie, uncles Mike (Barb) Brunkow of Lincoln, NE, Tom Hart of CA, Patrick(Pat) Engelhaupt of IL, aunt, Mary(John) Hewitt of Omaha, Kelly (Mike) Fitchhorn of Omaha, cousins Mandy, Sara, Angie, Shan, Nick, Mike, Matt, Anna, and Kayla, and numerous close family friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Patricia, grandparents David and Vivian Brunkow, grandmother Catherine Engelhaupt, grandfather Eugene Engelhaupt, his aunt Trish Engelhaupt, and his special cat Zen.

Memorial services will be on May 30, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance, NE. Burial will follow at Alliance Cemetery.

Ryan Eugene Engelhaupt (1975 - 2025)

Margaret M Kicken, died on May 14th, 2025, in Scottsbluff, at the age of 90. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Christ The King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Mike McDonald as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Alliance at 2pm. Visitation and a Rosary Service will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the church at 6pm. Margaret Mary (McDonald) Kicken was born September 16th, 1934, in Alliance, NE to Emmett and Gertrude (Carpenter) McDonald. She rode horseback to a one room school in Sioux County. She graduated St. Agnes Academy in Alliance and Sisters of St. Francis Nursing School in Minot, North Dakota.

Margaret enjoyed a long and successful career as a nurse, being employed in hospitals in Alliance and Scottsbluff, NE. She retired following 17 years of dedicated and reputable employment as surveyor of health care facilities for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Margaret and Lucien were married 68 years. They were wed in Mitchell, NE, on June 30th, 1956. They ranched in the Sandhills later moving to Milford NE and Alliance, NE ending in Scottsbluff, NE, where they raised their six children. Margaret and Lucien enjoyed square dancing and traveling in their camper throughout the United States and Canada. They also enjoyed many trips to Europe, visiting family and friends.

Margaret will be remembered by many, primarily due to her personality and ability to leave an impression. She is known for her kindness, her storytelling, her ability to remain in touch with close and extended family members, her role as family historian, her cooking, her humor and wit, and especially her faith.

Survivors include Mark (Joanne) Kicken of Buckely, WA, David (Joan) Kicken of Minatare, NE, Mary (Danny) Tompkins of Scottsbluff, NE, Teresa Jacobs of Lincoln, NE, Emily (Pat) Starr of Sioux Falls, SD, Louis (Amy) Kicken, of Gering, NE; sixteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding Margaret in death is her husband, Lucien Kicken, grandson Zachary Tompkins, and great-grandson, Jacob Rosmann.

Margaret’s family would like to thank Brookstone Hospice for the excellent care and comfort provided to Margaret and her family. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the family and these contributions will be donated to the causes Margaret supported.

Margaret and Lucien enjoyed square dancing and traveling in their camper throughout the United States and Canada. They also enjoyed many trips to Europe, visiting family and friends.Margaret will be remembered by many, primarily due to her personality and ability to leave an impression. Leonard Raymond Hartman, 76, passed away Friday, November 29, 2024 at Swedish Medical Center in Denver, CO after a brief illness.

He was born in Seneca Falls, New York on October 5, 1948, to the late Betty Jane Scott Hartman (Decker) and Leonard Ray Hartman and was the oldest of four children. He lost his father in 1961. Leonard was a 1966 graduate of Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls, NY.&nbsp;

Leonard studied Mathematics at Auburn Community College, Auburn, NY and at Hiram Scott College, in Scottsbluff, NE. That is where he met his sweetheart Linda Ann Viola in 1971. They were married for over 50 years and made their home in Alliance, Nebraska. Leonard earned his Master’s degree at Chadron State College in 1979, and earned an Administrative Endorsement 7-12, High School in 1983 from University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

Leonard taught high school math and developed the Computer Science Program “Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)” at Alliance Public Schools. Leonard was committed to his craft for over 42 years and “never worked a day in his life”. He was devoted to his students and was a referee for basketball. Leonard and Linda also supported the students and school by keeping the books for Volleyball and both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams for over 20 years.&nbsp; They were inducted into the A Club in 2023, and Leonard was very proud of this honor.&nbsp; With Linda, he was active in the Nebraska State Education Association.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Each summer he and Linda would travel back to Upstate New York and Long Island to visit family. Leonard enjoyed italian food, fishing, playing golf and their many cats. He was known for his generosity, quick wit, clever sense of humor and his kind and sincere demeanor.

Leonard is survived by his brother Paul C. (Theresa) Hartman of Richardson, TX, sister Ellen H. Bailey, brother-in-law William “Bill” Foulkrod, nephews Todd Foulkrod, all of Lucama, NC, Scott Bailey of Waterloo, NY, nieces Kim Foulkrod (Randy) Moore of Lucama, NC, Lisa Bailey (Patrick) Shell of Seneca Falls, NY, Rachel Hartman and Cassandra Hartman, both of Columbus, OH, several great nieces and nephews. Special friends Jim and Jeryl Hawk and family, Bill Longacre, Don and Julie Sheldon, and many other friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, sister, Nancy D. Foulkrod, and nephew, Eric J. Hartman.

Linda Ann Hartman, 73, passed away Friday, March 25 at St. Mary's Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN after a lengthy illness.

She was born on December 31, 1948 in Englewood, NJ to Fred and Cecelia (Holmes) Viola. Linda was raised and grew up in Tappan, NY and graduated from Tappan High School in 1966. In 1969 she graduated from Rockland Community College in Rockland NY .

She moved to Nebraska in 1970 and graduated from Hiram Scott College in Scottsbluff in 1971 with a degree in elementary education. At Hiram Scott College she met Leonard Hartman and they were married in 1971. He survives her at their home.

They moved to Alliance later that year where Leonard began teaching high school math.

Linda began teaching middle school math in 1980. She was very active in school including being the Middle School Student Council sponsor and running the school store. One of her favorite things to do was keep scorebook for the high school volleyball and basketball teams. She was very active in the Nebraska State Education Association holding several elected positions.

Her favorite activity outside of school was scrapbooking. She enjoyed making pages for the senior players and for her friends' children. She also enjoyed taking care of her many cats.

Memorials may be sent to PAWS in care of the Alliance Animal Clinic.

Hildreth “Hil” Brammer Monahan was born on March 18, 1930, in Bingham, NE., to Elmer and Edithe (McCarty) Brammer, and passed away on April 30, 2025, in Alliance, NE., at the age of 95.

Hil was the 8th of nine children.&nbsp; Edithe passed away when Hil was seven years old, and her older sisters helped raise her and the younger brothers.&nbsp; Hil attended school in Bingham and graduated with one other classmate.&nbsp; After graduation, she received her teacher’s certificate from Chadron State College, and taught in a country school south of Ashby for two years.&nbsp; She saved enough money to attend the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, for one year.

During the two summers before graduating from high school, Hil helped out the cook at the Monahan Cattle Company ranch near Hyannis.&nbsp; It was there she met James A. Monahan, her future husband.&nbsp; After finishing college in Lincoln, they were married on August 20, 1950, in Bingham.

Hil was immediately introduced to the ranch wife life as the garden and canning of produce were in full swing. One week following the wedding, the ranch cook passed away, and Hil became the temporary cook.&nbsp; She continued to fill in, when needed, at the cookhouse for over 40 years.

Hil and James had four children:&nbsp; Bryan, Bob, Gerri, and Joan.&nbsp; Hil enjoyed sewing clothes for the family; knitting, embroidery; and needlework.&nbsp; Tending to her flower gardens brought her much joy.&nbsp; Hil was involved with the King's Daughters at church.&nbsp; Flying the American flag was special to Hil.&nbsp; She did all this while keeping an immaculate house.&nbsp; Hil was a wonderful cook and hostess.&nbsp; Christmas was her favorite holiday, especially when preparing the prime rib roast for the family gathering.

Her grandchildren and the great-grandchildren brought her much joy.

Hil also enjoyed attending the kids’ activities.&nbsp; She liked to play bridge, other card games, and worked many crossword puzzles.&nbsp; Other interests were playing the organ, bowling and weekends at the lake.

Visiting with friends and family over a cup of coffee, the Nebraska Huskers, and most of all, Herefords were highlights.

Through the years, she embraced ranch life while raising her family.&nbsp; If she wasn’t out working in the yards and garden, doing the ranch bookwork and purebred records, she was helping on the ranch wherever needed, from hauling cattle to the sale barn, raising chickens, gathering cattle on horseback, branding, and everything in between.

Hil was active in the Nebraska and American Hereford Auxiliary and the Nebraska Cow Belles.&nbsp; She dedicated her life to the Hereford world and in 1987 was named “Outstanding Hereford Woman” by the American Hereford Auxiliary.

Through the years, Hil and James traveled extensively.&nbsp; Their home away from home family vacations involved a tent, pickup-topped camper, trailer, or one of their motorhomes.&nbsp; A lot of fall weekends were spent traveling to Lincoln for Husker football games with friends and family.&nbsp; Hil and James traveled abroad, attending three World Hereford Conferences.

Hil was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Edithe; sisters Arlene Boots, Francis Reed, Mildred Lineback, Edna Grose, and brothers Hank Brammer, Don Brammer, Elmer Brammer Jr., and Richard “Dick” Brammer.

Survivors include her husband, James of 75 years, sons Bryan (LaRene) Monahan, Bob Monahan, and Joan (Dan) Phipps all on the ranch, and Gerri Monahan of Lincoln.&nbsp; Grandchildren include Beth (Bob) Bush, Rocky (Melissa) Holm, Chedric Monahan, Marde (Zac) Thomas, Molly Monahan, Mark Monahan, Shantel (Travis) Lurz, John (fiancé Nikki) Monahan, Sarah (Jackson) Davis, 10 great grandchildren, three sister in-laws, one brother in-law, and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. MDT, at the Hyannis High School. Interment will be at the Hyannis Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, May 14 from 2-4 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Hildreth “Hil” Brammer Monahan (1930 - 2025)

Sandra Sue Waldron of Alliance passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO.&nbsp; She was 82.

She was born August 15, 1942 in Scottsbluff, NE to Alex and Eva (Romick) Steffen.

She graduated from Alliance High School in 1960, where she was FFA Sweetheart and class treasurer.&nbsp;

On April 14, 1961, she was united in marriage to Stephen W. Waldron, her high school sweetheart. They were married for over 60 years, and to this union, two sons were born, Randy Allen and Russell William Waldron.

Sandra began working as a secretary for Nebraska Transport Company that later evolved into Burlington Northern.&nbsp; After starting a family, she became a stay at home mom and was the bookkeeper and billing clerk for the Alliance Skelgas Propane Company out of her home.&nbsp; Sandra grew a large garden from which she canned produce for her family.&nbsp; She cooked and baked many things according to her German heritage.

As her son got older, Sandra added several part-time jobs from stocking cookies at Safeway, Missouri Market, Jack and Jill and DeVeny’s grocery stores. During summer evenings, she sold movie tickets at the Alliance’s Drive In Theatre which was then located behind today’s Dairy Queen.&nbsp; She began working part-time after her second son was old enough to walk as a lunch lady at Grandview Elementary for Mr. Colwell.

Once both of her children were in school full time, Sandra began working full time for Alliance Public Schools food service program as an assistant cook, then head cook, and eventually cafeteria supervisor managing cafeterias and food preparation and distribution for Alliance High School, Middle School, Emerson, Central and Grandview Elementaries.&nbsp; During those years her bosses were business managers, Bob Duryea and Stuart Simpson for 30 years until her retirement.

Her hobbies and interests ranged from shopping to doll collecting, watching television (Law and Order SVU a nightly favorite), going to movies at the Alliance Theatre with family friend, Dee Dee Gay, attending plays at Fort Robinson Playhouse, and traveling to music concerts in a four state area.

Sandra enjoyed volleyball (Huskers and high school) and basketball (high school, Huskers and Denver Nuggets-Nikola Jokic-The Joker her personal favorite).&nbsp; Many marathon Saturdays were spent watching high school state tournament action over the years.

When bitten by the travel bug, Sandra toured seven European countries, New Zealand and Australia.&nbsp; Within the United States, her favorite trips were to Hawaii, Nashville and the Grand Ole’ Opry, Dollywood, Broadway in New York City, Niagara Falls and an Alaskan Cruise.

Sandra resided with and in the care of her son Randy for the last eight years of her life.&nbsp; Now she resides in Heaven in God’s care.&nbsp; Heaven got a great one and her loss on earth is even bigger-Rest in peace Momma, and know that you are loved and missed every minute of every day.

Sandra is survived by her two sons, and three grandchildren: Randy Waldron of Alliance; Rusty and Natalie Waldron and their children Sydnie, Nicholas, and Ayvrie, all of Alliance; her brother Larry Steffen of Kearney, NE. She is also survived by numerous Romick family cousins and other nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Eva (Romick) Steffen, her husband, Stephen William Waldron and other aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law and cousins.

Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.

During summer evenings, she sold movie tickets at the Alliance’s Drive In Theatre which was then located behind today’s Dairy Queen.&nbsp; She began working part-time after her second son was old enough to walk as a lunch lady at Grandview Elementary for Mr. Colwell.Once both of her children were in school full time, Sandra began working full time for Alliance Public Schools food service program as an assistant cook, then head cook, and eventually cafeteria supervisor managing cafeterias and food preparation and distribution for Alliance High School, Middle School, Emerson, Central and Grandview Elementaries.&nbsp; During those years her bosses were business managers, Bob Duryea and Stuart Simpson for 30 years until her retirement.Her hobbies and interests ranged from shopping to doll collecting, watching television (Law and Order SVU a nightly favorite), going to movies at the Alliance Theatre with family friend, Dee Dee Gay, attending plays at Fort Robinson Playhouse, and traveling to music concerts in a four state area.Sandra enjoyed volleyball (Huskers and high school) and basketball (high school, Huskers and Denver Nuggets-Nikola Jokic-The Joker her personal favorite).&nbsp; Many marathon Saturdays were spent watching high school state tournament action over the years.When bitten by the travel bug, Sandra toured seven European countries, New Zealand and Australia.&nbsp; Within the United States, her favorite trips were to Hawaii, Nashville and the Grand Ole’ Opry, Dollywood, Broadway in New York City, Niagara Falls and an Alaskan Cruise.Sandra resided with and in the care of her son Randy for the last eight years of her life.&nbsp; Now she resides in Heaven in God’s care.&nbsp; Heaven got a great one and her loss on earth is even bigger-Rest in peace Momma, and know that you are loved and missed every minute of every day.Sandra is survived by her two sons, and three grandchildren: Randy Waldron of Alliance; Rusty and Natalie Waldron and their children Sydnie, Nicholas, and Ayvrie, all of Alliance; her brother Larry Steffen of Kearney, NE. Sandra Sue Waldron (1942 - 2025)

Dorothy Loraine (Caldwell) Evans was born December 29, 1942 in Wood Lake, Nebraska to Russell and Dorothy (Burrows) Caldwell. She was called home April 21, 2025 at Swedish Medical Center in Engelwood, CO peacefully surrounded by her family.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Loraine was the eldest of 13 siblings. She married the love of her life Charles William Evans on June 8, 1962 in Rapid City, South Dakota. They had four children.&nbsp;

Loraine grew up in Wood Lake, Nebraska where she attended school.&nbsp; After graduation she moved in with her grandmother and worked at the local cafe.&nbsp; While attending a dance she met Charles and shortly after were married.&nbsp; Loraine, being a military wife, lived several places eventually settling down in Hyannis, Nebraska where they lived for 39 years.&nbsp; She had a few jobs but everyone knew her for babysitting the town's kids.

Loraine will be remembered most for her selflessness, her one of a kind smirk smile and the way she could light up a room. She had a passion for all games, from cards, board games, bowling and even Playstation. She enjoyed teaching anyone who would let her, especially if that meant she had another person to play her favorite game, Pitch.&nbsp; Over the years she had many hobbies from plastic canvas, crocheting and painting ceramics. You could always count on her gifting you her handmade crafts for birthday and Christmas presents. Her newest hobby had become diamond art and did that keep her busy! One of the biggest joys of her life were her grand/great grandchildren. She loved any and all opportunities she got to spend with them. Loraine will be missed deeply by all who knew her; as her family would say she was the glue that held everyone together.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children Laurie Chambers, Brenda (Casey) Spath and Corey (Bonnie) Evans, grand children Treyel (Kirsten)Evans, Jason (Nicole) Smith, Shauna (Koltin) Smith, Mishayla (John) Evans, Kephanie (Jacob) Deal and Blake Jensen, 20 great grandchildren and siblings Shirley (Louie) Larabee, Peggy Kuta, Jay (Carlene) Burrows, George (Tarin) Burrows, Beverly (Dave) O'Dea, Maxine Scarberry, Bill (Patty) Burrows, Carol (Don) Stewart, Kenny (Carol) Caldwell, Russ Jr. (Jeri) Caldwell, and Shannon Vincelli.

Dorothy Loraine (Caldwell) Evans (1942 - 2025)

Douglas “Doug” Scott Furley, 66, passed away on the morning of April 16, 2025. Born November 14, 1958, in Norfolk, Nebraska, Doug lived life with grit, mischief, and a flame that danced just out of reach of ordinary.

He was the son of Neldagene Furley and the late Richard Furley, and brother to Debra (Bill) Smith and Gina (late Russ) Anders. Doug’s proudest legacy is his family: sons Kyle (Lindsay), Kohl (ShayLee), and Maison (Colleen), and his seven grandchildren—Wyatt, RyLyn, Brody, Tiller, Everly, Cora, and Logan—each of whom shared a special spark with their Papa. Nothing lit up his face like their laughter, and his inner child forged the strongest bonds with them.

Doug refused to stay still. After graduating from high school, he left Nebraska to work on the railroad, which he enjoyed for many years until an injury put his life on a new track. With classic grit, he learned a new role as a consultant and investigator for law firms representing injured railroad workers, making friends across a six-state territory.

Through his wandering, he found home in Sheridan, Wyoming after falling in love with the Bighorn Mountains. After two decades, the pull of change led him to obtain his CDL and he hit the road as a truck driver. It suited him and took him all over Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska.

Doug’s education came from the school of hard knocks, and he graduated with honors in stubbornness, storytelling, and fearless love and loyalty for his friends and family. He was a cowboy at his core and was happiest in a saddle, with a rope in his hand, looking down the chute. He had a gift for storytelling that could leave a room breathless with laughter. Doug never met a stranger he couldn’t befriend, and he’d never miss an opportunity to make them laugh. Speed limit signs were more of a suggestion to him—something his lawman father never quite let him live down—which was a homage to how he chose to live life: wild, free, and in his own style.

In early 2018, Doug was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia, which later evolved into frontotemporal dementia. Over the next 8 years, this disease slowly affected every part of his life. By 2020, Doug required assistance with most of his daily activities and relocated to Hurricane, Utah to be near his middle son, Kohl, where he enjoyed the warmth and change of pace. Though the disease compromised his body and mind, it never touched the memories made by the countless lives he touched.

Doug was truly one of a kind—all steel and grit, with a quiet and unforgettable warmth that snuck up on you. His stories, his contagious laugh, and his loyal spirit will echo through the mountains, the winding roads, and the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Legacy Broadcaster, James Richard Lambley, age 74, passed away at the Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, NE on April 17, 2025 surrounded by family.

Jim was born March 20, 1951 in Ainsworth, NE to June and Getha (Hollingsworth) Lambley. He was their youngest child, following Phyllis, Jerry, and Lynda. Jim graduated from Ainsworth High School, class of 1969, then went on to attend Elkins Institute to gain his First Class Radiotelephony Engineers License.

Jim married Paige Chase in 1972 and to this union were born Lana Marie and Rachel Ann.

Jim fell in love with Radio his senior year of high school while working at KBRB in Ainsworth, NE and never got over it! No matter where else life took him, he always went back to radio.

In 1984, Jim married Deneen Lee and together they were blessed with Dalsey Kay.

Jim &amp; Deneen purchased KSDZ Radio in Gordon, NE and later built and put KDJL Radio on the air in Kilgore/Valentine, NE.

Jim was a very capable man. He was first and foremost, a father to three amazing women. He was an auctioneer, rancher, farmer, telephone man, salesman, coyote hunter, a horseman, and so much more. Jim was most definitely a radio broadcaster. He said he never felt like he was going to work as he enjoyed what he did for a living. Jim took his broadcast license seriously and was a dedicated public advocate and watchdog for the people. He wasn’t afraid to take on any issue or bring any subject to light – no matter the cost.

Jim’s involvement in the news of the Nebraska Legislature, Regional, National and Community interests compelled him to be a voice for the people.

His love for Country Music and Classic Oldies kept the turntables spinning the big records with little holes, even though the album covers were well worn. He knew every one of them. He bled red, white, and blue, and he lived as a founding father to pass this country of ours carefully to the next generation. His Bible sits next to his chair. The microphone is silent. He put his trust and faith in God, his love at the feet of Jesus, and will be waiting at the altar for the rest of us. Now, it’s up to us to do our part.

James Richard Lambley (1951 - 2025)

Brian M. Bishop, 65, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

He was born on May 1, 1959 at Grand Island, NE to Gene and Mary Jane (Mack) Bishop. His family moved to Alliance in 1964.

He was united in marriage to Brenda K. Denny on May 27, 2011.

Brian is survived by his wife, Brenda, his sons, Caleb and his wife, Kayla Bishop and Cody Bishop of Alliance and his grandsons, Tanner Grothe and Brandon Bishop.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brothers and their wives, Steve and Laura Bishop and Craig and Bessie Bishop of Alliance, his sister-in-law, Ann Bishop of Westminster, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

His parents and his brother, Brad Bishop preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be Friday, April 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.&nbsp; The family would welcome casual and Husker attire.

Brian M. Bishop (1959 - 2025)

Mark Elliott Sheets, age 58, of Alliance, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his home with his beloved family by his side on April 11, 2025.

Born on April 19, 1966, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Mark was the cherished son of Robert (Bob) Sheets and Judith (Judie) Fistler, and the proud stepson of James (Jim) Fistler.

Mark graduated from Alliance High School in 1985 and went on to earn his degree from Chadron State College in 1991. Mark served as a police officer in Crawford, Nebraska from 1992-1994. In 1994, he began a new chapter with the railroad, starting as Conductor and eventually working his way up to Engineer – a position he held with great pride until his retirement in 2024.

Mark married the love of his life, Shonda, on August 24, 1991. Together they built a beautiful life and completed their family on January 8, 2007 with the birth of their daughter, Kayla.

An outdoorsmen at heart, Mark found peace and happiness surrounded by nature. He loved fishing, camping in his camper, four-wheeling through their property in the Black Hills, and spending time with his family and each of his dogs from dachshunds to labs. He had a passion for history and genealogy. Mark could spot a good buffet from a mile away and never passed up the opportunity to socialize over a cold jug of iced tea. Socializing was one of his strong suits and he always had time for one more story.

Mark’s memory will live on through his wife, Shonda, and their daughter, Kayla. He is also survived by his sister Jennifer (James) Monroe, nieces Madison and Mya Monroe, nephew Mason Monroe, mother-in-law, Tonchita (Toni) Ring, Aunt Jean (Sid) Thurston, and Uncle Mick (Kelly) Von Tour. Mark has now been reunited with his father Bob, mother Judie, stepfather Jim, father-in-law Merlin Ring, grandparents William Sheets and Nancy (Ragland) Sheets, grandparents Dr. E. ‘Doc’ Von Tour and Virginia (Thieme) Von Tour.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. MST at the Eagles Club in Alliance, Nebraska. The family would like to kindly invite anyone who knew Mark to join in honoring his memory by sharing a fun story or memory of him during this time – just in the way Mark would have wanted.

 </figure>Mark Elliott Sheets, age 58, of Alliance, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his home with his beloved family by his side on April 11, 2025.Born on April 19, 1966, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Mark was the cherished son of Robert (Bob) Sheets and Judith (Judie) Fistler, and the proud stepson of James (Jim) Fistler.Mark graduated from Alliance High School in 1985 and went on to earn his degree from Chadron State College in 1991. Mark served as a police officer in Crawford, Nebraska from 1992-1994. In 1994, he began a new chapter with the railroad, starting as Conductor and eventually working his way up to Engineer – a position he held with great pride until his retirement in 2024.Mark married the love of his life, Shonda, on August 24, 1991. Together they built a beautiful life and completed their family on January 8, 2007 with the birth of their daughter, Kayla.An outdoorsmen at heart, Mark found peace and happiness surrounded by nature. He loved fishing, camping in his camper, four-wheeling through their property in the Black Hills, and spending time with his family and each of his dogs from dachshunds to labs. He had a passion for history and genealogy. Mark could spot a good buffet from a mile away and never passed up the opportunity to socialize over a cold jug of iced tea. Socializing was one of his strong suits and he always had time for one more story.Mark’s memory will live on through his wife, Shonda, and their daughter, Kayla. He is also survived by his sister Jennifer (James) Monroe, nieces Madison and Mya Monroe, nephew Mason Monroe, mother-in-law, Tonchita (Toni) Ring, Aunt Jean (Sid) Thurston, and Uncle Mick (Kelly) Von Tour. Mark Elliott Sheets (1966 - 2025)

Harold D. Johnson was born May 31, 1925 in Sutton, Nebraska. He was the third of nine children of Carl J. and Hazel D. (Erickson) Johnson. At the age of five, his family moved to a farm seven miles north of Alliance. He attended his first four years at Box Butte County Rural School District 12. He then attended the Alliance City Schools. Harold's mother died when he was 12 years old, leaving Carl to raise eight children ages eight months to 15 years. Carl insisted that the children not be split up and mentored eight successful individuals. All six Johnson boys served our country in the military.

Harold graduated from Alliance High School in 1942 and, being too young to enter military service, he worked at the Alliance Creamery until being inducted into the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1943.He attended basic training at Sheppard Field, Texas. He went to Kingman, Arizona Air Field for B-17 Gunnery Training. Harold was asked to become an instructor in gunnery and attended instructor school at Laredo Air Field, Texas. Harold then returned to Kingman, and, after instructing for a while, he volunteered for a special overseas project. He was sent to Laredo, Texas again to prepare for overseas project in Europe. The war in Europe ended, so Harold was sent to Las Vegas Air Field for B-29 Gunnery School. He completed this training and then the war with Japan was ended. Harold was honorably discharged in 1946. Harold attended Colorado A. &amp; M. College. Upon returning home, Harold began his career at Nebraska Typewriter in 1947 and purchased the business in 1971. Harold and Lois continue to own Nebraska Total Office (name changed in 2000). This business has serviced the Nebraska panhandle for 75+ years.

Harold's Studebaker collection was started in 1974 when Lois wanted a four door 1951 Studebaker for their 25th anniversary. They acquired the five different models of the 1951 Studebakers, and the Studebaker addiction ensued with adventures taking them from South Dakota, to Kansas to eastern Nebraska. Harold's collection of Studebakers currently totals 23 restored vehicles.

Harold served on the following boards: Nebraska Boys Ranch, Box Butte County Extension Board, Box Butte County School District 44, Alliance Consumers Cooperative, Downtown Improvement, Consumers Cooperative Federal Credit Union, Alliance Board of Adjustment and Good Samaritan Advisory Board.

Harold married Lois Grabher on May 6, 1949. They celebrated 75 years of marriage in 2024. They adopted four children: Brad, Becky, Belinda and Barbie.

Harold passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025 at the age of 99.

His survivors include his wife Lois of the home, Barbie (Roger) Applegarth, Becky (Bill) McDonald, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, all of his siblings, daughter Belinda and son Brad.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.&nbsp; A rosary will be said on Monday, April 21st at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Memorials may be given to Highland Park Memory Unit, St. Agnes Academy Foundation or Snow Redfern Foundation.

Harold D. Johnson (1925 - 2025)

Duana Dugger, 90, of Alliance, Nebraska, passed away April 5, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born October 1, 1934, in Alliance, Nebraska. Duana is proceeded in death by her parents, George and LaVerne (Nason) Ditsch, husband Billie W. Dugger; son, David Dugger; four siblings; Don (Dee) Ditsch, Mae (Don) Hall, Lolita (Bill) Brinker and Suzie (Terri) Spangler.

Duana is survived by her sister, Kay (Bob) Reid, daughters; Lynda (Gene) Sedlacek, Susan (Tim) Snethen, Cyndy (Vance) Olson; Jeff (Tammy) Dugger, Mike (Lorlie) Dugger; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Duana enjoyed working with children and spent her days supporting and educating young children. She has taught at the Youth and Family Services, District 2, and Grandview Elementary School. She enjoyed gardening, traveling to Rapid City to go to the Central States Fair concerts with her family, playing cards up to the early hours of the morning and playing Bridge with her friends. Some of her hobbies included listening to Tim McGraw, crocheting doilies and afghans, reading, coloring pictures, and completing crossword puzzles. She cherished her family the most and was an inspiration to many. The family would like to thank the staff at Monument Health in Rapid City for the excellent quality of care given.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 16 from 1-4 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home. A wake service will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.&nbsp; Join us to celebrate Duana’s life and share stories at 7:00 PM.

Duana Dugger (1934 - 2025)

Bruce F. Johnson lived a life rooted in his Christian faith, cherishing his family, friends, and community. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Elmer and Edna Johnson, he was the youngest of seven children. He graduated from Southeast High School and went on to earn a degree from the University of Nebraska. Bruce proudly served in the Army and then the Army National Guard, later becoming a liaison between the Guard and the community, advocating for enlistment, training, and service.

In 1962, Bruce met Jill Crump at the beach on a sunny Memorial Day weekend. They married in September 1965, and this year would mark their 60th wedding anniversary. Together, they welcomed their son, Adam William, on May 30, 1979. Bruce was further blessed with a daughter-in-law, Jessica Poeling, and a granddaughter, Addison Marie, born on October 17, 2017.

Bruce began his career with Mobil Oil Company in Lincoln before purchasing Hempel Oil in Alliance, Nebraska. He became a key figure in his community, providing essential services through several local businesses. He served as president of the Nebraska Petroleum Marketers Association and was a Deacon at his church.

Bruce and Jill enjoyed traveling to many destinations around the world, with his favorite trips being to Egypt and Greece with his sister-in-law Bonnie and friends. They found their happy spot in Hill City, South Dakota, where they entertained a constant stream of family and good friends. Bruce’s hobbies were many, from piloting his own plane to mountain climbing, scuba diving, and photography. He also loved camping, fishing, and spending time in the Boundary Waters with Adam. In addition to these adventures, they enjoyed hunting, boating, and skiing together.

A lifelong church member, Bruce was active in the Little White Church in Hill City and, more recently, Broadway Christian Church in Mesa, Arizona, where he was part of the Men’s Group and attended services regularly until the end.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Elmer Johnson, and his six siblings. He is survived by his wife, Jill; his son Adam (and daughter-in-law Jessica); his granddaughter Addison Marie; sister-in-laws Bonnie Johnson and Terri VandenBurg (Robert) as well as nephew Randy Johnson (Dixie), niece Linda Parchert (Carroll), cousin Jack Johnson (Glenda), and many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Bruce F. Johnson (1944 - 2025)

Justin Dade Gericke, 50, of Torrington, Wyoming, passed away on March 21, 2025, in Torrington Wyoming.

He was born on January 23, 1975.&nbsp; Justin built a life rooted in hard work, family, and passion. He dedicated nearly 30 years of service to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment.Justin was a man of many interests. He enjoyed the great outdoors—especially fishing, kayaking, and gardening. He was also an avid gun enthusiast and loved playing cards and cooking for those he loved. Above all, Justin’s true passion was his family, relationship with God, and the many friendships he built throughout his life.

He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Becki Gericke; his sons, Josh Gericke, Jake Gericke, and Levi (Precious) Wickham; his daughter, Madison (Ryan) Bunnell; his mother, Lynne (Clifford) Cooper; his mother, Pat Gericke; and his brothers, Jason Gericke, Wes (Shayla) Ensinger, and Andy (Julie) Ensinger. 

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.Justin was preceded in death by his father John Gericke, grandparents Lylas and Richard Gericke and Willam and Derry Seymour and his best friend Timothy Wickham.
