Lisa Sue Bright, age 68, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, July 20, 2025. She was born in Alliance, Nebraska, on July 10, 1957 to Darrel and Betty (Dye) Leistritz,

Lisa spent her early years working on the ranch with her parents and siblings and enjoyed her summers in the hay field. She attended grade school in Antioch, Nebraska and then graduated from Alliance High School in 1975.

Lisa and Allen met their last year of high school. After some persistent flirting and persuasion, Lisa agreed to go out on a date with him. In the fall, two years later, October 15, 1977, they were married in Alliance, Nebraska.

During this time, she obtained her Associate's degree in Executive Secretarial from Wayne State College. Lisa and Allen started their married lives with a small place in Alliance.She obtained a job in a law office and later worked for DHHS. In 1978, Lisa and Allen moved to Antioch, Nebraska, built a house, and made a home. They ran the ranch together with Lisa'sbrother and his family as well as Lisa's father.

In 1989, Lisa&nbsp;and&nbsp;Allen started a new adventure and built a feedlot at Antioch. In 1997, Lisa and Allen were blessed with an addition to their family: Abigail (Hadley) Elder. Upon Abigail's arrival, Lisa resigned from DHHS and became a professional homemaker. She also took over all of the bookkeeping for the feedlot.

Lisa and Allen went on many adventures together whether that was business or personal. The feedlot turned into a machine shop that then married a greenhouse business of which she was an integral cog of each.

Lisa enjoyed crafting and scrapbooking. She was an amazing cook and an even more amazing gardener. Lisa loved making things and sharing them with those around her; this wassomething she made sure to instill in her daughter as they spent hours and hours crafting things to share with those they love. Lisa will forever be remembered as a loving wife and mother.

Lisa was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Lisa is survived by her husband Allen Bright, her daughter Abigail (Hadley) Elder of Alliance, Nebraska: siblings: Jerry (Sherrie) Leistritz of Alliance, Nebraska and Jana Leistritz of Alliance, Nebraska; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Mr. Bill Bright will officiate.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Memorials in Lisa’s name may be given to the Box Butte County 4-H Council, 415 Black Hills Ave., Alliance, Nebraska, 69301.

Linda M. Sutphen passed away July 17, 2025 surrounded by her family in Alliance, NE. She was born in Rayville, Missouri on July 22, 1941 to Lester and Dorothy (Carpenter) Lewis.

On February 27, 1961, Linda married Richard Sutphen in Bridgeport, NE. To this union two sons, R.D. and J.D. were born.&nbsp; Richard and Linda lived in the Sandhills until 2000, moving into Alliance for retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her parents and her siblings, George, Mary, Richard and Barbara.

Linda is survived by her son, R.D.&nbsp; and his wife, Marianne Sutphen and their children, Kara and Ty (Morgan) and her son, J.D. and his wife, Jodi and their children, Morgan (Ashleigh) and Peyton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be designated to the United Methodist Church in Lakeside, NE and may be sent in care of the family to 927 Colorado Avenue, Alliance, NE&nbsp; 69301.

Linda M. Sutphen (1941 - 2025)

Sarah Kathleen (Sally) Rockey was born in Alliance on April 25, 1941; the third of three children of Hugh and Bess (Butler) O’Connor.&nbsp; She passed away on May 30, 2025 at Bickford Senior Living in Lincoln.

David Bruce Rockey was born in Hemingford on July 21, 1935; the second of five sons of Dale and Alice (Planansky) Rockey.&nbsp; He passed away on April 24, 2025 at Bickford Senior Living in Lincoln.

Bruce and Sally were married on August 4, 1959, and lived in various communities; Chadron, Arthur, Lewellen, Kearney, Alliance and Hastings.&nbsp; Along the way, no matter where, they were active; from chaperoning school functions to volunteering at church, and from supporting service organizations to traveling with or hosting family and friends.&nbsp; They cherished family time and catching up with friends from every stage of their lives and loved making new acquaintances.

They are survived by their son Brian (Dawn) and grandson Gus of Lincoln; Dawn’s parents Don and Jan Egenberger of Lincoln; Bruce’s brothers Mike (Wendy) of Oklahoma City, OK; John (Loretta) of Harrisonville, MO; and Tom (Sandy) of Olathe, KS; sister in-law Nellie O’Connor of Lincoln, as well as dozens of extended family members from coast to coast.&nbsp; They were preceded in death by their parents, daughter Stacy, Bruce’s brother Jim (Col. US Army retired) and his wife Deanie of Virginia, Sally’s sister and husband Betty and Mike Manning, and her brother Frank O’Connor.

&nbsp;A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. August 4 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance, with inurnment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.&nbsp; Bates-Gould Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.

Bruce (1935-2025) & Sally (1941-2025) Rockey

Rebecca Ann Bowman, age 76, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska. She was born March 16, 1949 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Donald and Mary Kate (Davee) Morris.

She was a 1967 graduate of Alliance High School. Rebecca worked for a number of years as an LPN before returning to college later in life. She graduated from Chadron State College with degrees in art and social work. Rebecca developed her skills as an artist and was an accomplished individual who contributed her beautiful sculptures to the Carnegie to fill their space with lovely dancers and busts during her final days.

Rebecca truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping with family and planning the next adventurous trip. She also loved her church community in Lincoln and stayed an avid online member even from a distance. She held an active role in the DAV and was proud to serve disabled veterans over 30 years. Holding an elected position for DAV, she attended many meetings and represented at yearly conventions. She took her position very seriously. She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Mary Kate Morris, her sister Nancy Avila and brother Allen Morris.

Rebecca married Larry Bolinger on July 8, 1966 and five children were born from this union; Celena (Nina) Berry, Scott (Marilyn) Bolinger, Amber (Randy) Craig, Torree (Jeanette) Bolinger and Justin Bolinger. She is also survived by an abundance of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a brother Bud (Julie) Morris. Later in life, Rebecca had a second marriage union to William Bowman and enjoyed over twenty years in this union. She loved the weekly family game nights and great card playing sharks through the years along with serving veterans together.

We know that we can't have you but we’re happy knowing that the angels have finally got you back. Goodbye to a wonderful woman and a beautiful mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

There will be a service for those who would like to say their last goodbye to Rebecca on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held Monday, July 21, 2025 from 1-7 p.m. with family attending from 4-6 p.m.

Rebecca Ann Bowman (1949 - 2025)

Carolyn Virginia Spearing , 103 years and 10 months, passed away on June 25, 2025&nbsp;surrounded by her family in Alliance, Nebraska. She was born in Cimarron, Kansas on August&nbsp;20, 1921 to Raleigh and Gussie (Thompson) Erdman.

She graduated from Cimarron High School in May, 1939. In May, 1943, She received her&nbsp;Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Emporia State Teachers College, Kansas. While&nbsp;at the college, she was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi, an honorary educational society..

On August 20, 1943, Carolyn married Joseph Hall Spearing in Kansas City, Kansas. They lived&nbsp;in Kansas City, KS while Joe attended KU Medical school, and in Baltimore, MD while Joe was&nbsp;in residency. Their first child, Anne, was born in 1945. While Joe was in the service, they lived&nbsp;at Fort Riley, KS and at Fort Ord, CA. When WWII was over, they moved to Council Bluffs, IA&nbsp;where their second child, John, was born in 1948 . Shortly after that, they moved to Harlan, IA,&nbsp;where Joe acquired an active practice. Carolyn spent the last 15 years in Omaha and Alliance,&nbsp;NE to be closer to her grandchildren.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter Anne (John T.) Adam of Alliance, NE, her son John R.&nbsp;(Luann) Spearing of Cartersville, GA; her grandchildren Elizabeth (Thomas) Rankin of Omaha,&nbsp;NE, Alexander (Natalie) Adam of Alliance,NE and her stepgrandson, Jaron (Eleanor) Bergin of&nbsp;Houston, TX. Also her great-grandchildren Anna, Madison, Chloe, Samuel, Margaret, and Cici.&nbsp;She's also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. 

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, their infant daughter, her parents,&nbsp;her brothers and their wives, Raleigh (Audrey) Erdman, Jr. and William (Pat) Erdman and her&nbsp;grandson, Joshua J. Spearing. Also her In-laws Edwin Spearing, Joe (Margie) Downey and&nbsp;Dee Spearing, and nieces, Kathy Erdman, Suzanne Wyatt, and Marilyn Reymann.

In her own way, Carolyn, being the spitfire that she was, gave love and support to her family,&nbsp;friends, organizations and Community! She’ll be dearly missed but will be remembered for her.

Carolyn Spearing’s graveside service will be at the Harlan Iowa Cemetery on Thursday, July&nbsp;17th at 11:00 am followed by a luncheon reception at the Milk and Honey. Friends and family&nbsp;are welcome!

With heavy hearts, we share the news of Susan (Susie) L. Cheek passing on July 8, 2025, at the age of 67.&nbsp;

She was born on January 14, 1958 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She grew up in Brookfield, Missouri were she graduated from Brookfield High School in 1976. Susie was united in marriage to M. Lee Cheek on November 5, 1977. To this union three children were born and Susie welcomed two children from Lee’s previous marriage.

Susie retired from the Box Butte County Assessor’s office in December 2022 after 23 ½ years. She also worked for the Holiday Inn Express in Alliance and the Hemingford Public Schools.

Susie was involved in Mending Hearts, Bunco club, and Stamp club.&nbsp; She enjoyed going to the movies with her friends, crafting, community events, and her favorite was following her grandchildren’s activities. This took her far and wide and kept her on the road frequently. Over the years, she was involved in teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Boy Scouts, classroom activities, 4-H, Booster Club, and Box Butte County Fair.&nbsp;

Susie was preceded in death by her husband, M. Lee Cheek; mother and father Alma and E.L. Shiflett; and step grandson Zachary Richey.

She is survived by her children Misty (Jamie) Graham and their daughter Devyn of Hays, Kansas; Dusty Cheek and his children, Aspen, Rylan, Talon, and Oakley and Silas (Tina) Cheek and their children Anna and Gavin of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Her stepchildren JR (Teresa) Cheek and their children Caleb, Reed, and Linsey and Sheri Cheek and her son Jacob Richey of Missouri. She is also survived by numerous family members.

Susie’s celebration of life will be Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford, NE.

Sally Cervantes (Flores), 74 of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, at her home.

Sally was born on October 11, 1950, in Alliance, Nebraska, the tenth child of Dionicio and Elena Flores.&nbsp;

Sally was a wife, stepmother, sister, aunt and great-aunt. She married Dee in December, 1978. They were married for forty-one years. During their marriage, Sally had the pleasure of helping to care for her husband’s youngest child, Stevie, who was born with down syndrome.

Her love for children was apparent when assisting with parental responsibilities for Stevie. Under her care and guidance, Stevie learned how to count and read numbers, he came to appreciate and enjoy outdoor walks, nature, swimming, card games, and he learned how to read and understand a calendar, which was especially helpful to Stevie because he loved every major holiday. To help Stevie understand the seasons of the year, Sally would decorate Stevie’s bedroom according to the holiday and Stevie would proudly show his bedroom to house guests and visitors. Sally and Dee were great cooks and enjoyed preparing delicious meals. Their Mexican dishes were always wonderful and beautifully created.

Sally had a youthful heart and warm personality. She laughed easily and her quick wit was fun and sweet.

In her later years, Sally was diagnosed with stage four uterine cancer. During her battle with cancer, she relied heavily on her Catholic faith praying a daily Rosary, and she received abundant love and support from her husband, Stevie and her entire family. She was a trooper and an inspiration. In her remission from cancer, she would often express how thankful she was for every day and for the help she received from the Mother of God.

Sally is preceded in death by her husband, Delores Cervantes, her parents, Dionicio and Elena Flores, sister Juanita Mendoza, and brother Dan Flores. Sally is survived by her sisters Anita Vela of Corpus Christi, TX, Lupe Cox, Polly Magdaleno, Carmen Backous and Grace Brisby of Alliance, NE, Margo Parks of Wichita, KS, Bert Maldonado of Evans, CO, Gloria Kelly of Erie, CO, brothers Art Flores and John Flores of Alliance, NE, Tom Flores of Broomfield, CO, Mario Flores of Loveland, CO, Rob Flores of Kansas City, MO and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sally will be greatly missed, but her family is thankful that she knew our Lord Jesus Christ. We trust in our Lord’s love and mercy for her and for all.

Perry Lynn Ohrtman, 72, passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2025 in Alliance, Ne.

He was born on August 30, 1952 in Estherville, IA to William and Charlotte (Hupp) Ohrtman.

On February 20, 2004 he married Mary M. Green in Deadwood, SD.

Perry enlisted in the Army September 1970 and was honorable discharged August 1972, he than started his railroad career in Rock Island than became an engineer at BNSF until he retired.

Perry enjoyed watching all Iowa sports, his Thursday evenings with his buddies, and his grandchildren were his highlight of his day.

His survivors include his wife, Mary of 21 years, their daughters and son-in- law Meg and Scott Craig and Rashl Bunnell of Alliance, his grandchildren Jasmine DuBray of Yankton, SD, Brandon and Sami Gange of Alliance, Benita DuBray of Yankton, SD, Becca Stone of Omaha, Ne, Ryan Craig, Marisa Craig, Gage Franklin all of Alliance and 8 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Perry is also survived by his sisters Carol, Nancy, brother-in-law Jim, special nephew Aaron that was like a son to him his wife Natya their family, nephews Jake, Josh and their families.&nbsp;

He proceeded in death by his parents William and Charlotte, father-in-law Pat, mother-in-law Mary Helen, brother Mike, brother-in-law Norm, nephew Taylor.

A small military service for family and friends will be on Wednesday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m.&nbsp; at Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, SD.&nbsp; A celebration of life will be on Saturday, August 16th 11a-2p at Bowl Mor Lanes &amp; Lounge.

Corky Taylor, 66, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at his rural Alliance home.

He was born September 23, 1958 in Alliance to Harry “Jack” and Mary (Roland) Taylor.

Corky attended District 40 school for 8 years and then attended Alliance High School graduating in 1976. While in school he was a 10 year 4-H member and 4 year FFA member and avid wrestler.&nbsp; After high school he went on to Auctioneer School and accredited horseshoe school.&nbsp; While in high school he rode bulls for Cattle Capitol and was an avid team roper with many local friends. For many years he was a livestock judge at the Nebraska State Fair and an Aksarben participant.

He married Vicky (Mracek) Burback on June 14, 1997.

Corky trucked with Bud and Dave Roes for 10 years as well as Kevin Sorensen. He was also involved with ranching with Vic and Jane Krause for many years and also worked with his dad at his ranch. He later partnered with Logan McDonald in operating their trucking business.

His survivors include his wife, Vicky; her son, Eric (Leslie) Burback and their son Kade of Boise, ID, his nephew he considered a son and his financé, Logan McDonald and KayLynn, his sisters, Phyllis (Roy) Jesse of Hemingford and Joni (Darrell) Petersen of Alliance, nieces and nephews, Andrea McDonald of Gordon,&nbsp; Alicia (Jayson)&nbsp; Keller of Mitchell, Alaina (Brandon) Schaeneman of Hemingford, Miles&nbsp; (Bo) Petersen of Big Piney, WY, Kristy Obermiller, Kory Knight, Lee Fritzler, Mark Fritzler, Jared Mracek and Morgan Mracek and several great nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Marilyn Mracek and sisters and brothers –in law, Peggy and Steve Miles and Porkchop and Cindy Mracek.

His parents, an infant brother and his father-in-law, T-Bone Mracek preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alliance Eagles Club.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 8.

Michael Jess Vallejo left peacefully to Jesus on July 3, 2025 with his loving wife at his side in his own home.

He was born to Jess and Helen Vallejo on October 30, 1954 in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp;

He worked for Burlington-Northern Railroad for 38 years and had 10 years of retirement.&nbsp; He loved all kinds of sports but his Husker Football was number one with wrestling being number 2. Mike was very soft hearted and everyone loved him.&nbsp; During his youth he played in little league baseball and lettered in high school football.&nbsp; He loved music especially the 60’s and his cousin Mark Vallejo’s band and during his youth was in a band with a group of friends. He was an avid animal lover as he has a dog, cat and a stray dove that came home with him with a broken wing and is still living after many years. He also loved his Harley Davidson and rode many times.

His survivors include his wife, Ramona “Mona” Vallejo, daughter, Sarah Kay (Keith) Wernsman, 2 step-daughters, Rebecca Ann (Desmond) Grant, Rachel Marie (Tony) Mireles, brothers-in-law, Stan Wagner, Terry and Debra Frohman and sister-in-law, Rhonda and Chuck Hamm.&nbsp; He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jaydon Grant, Sanaa Grant, Ariel Mireles, Payton Mireles, Avion Mireles and 1 great-grandchild, Jaydon&nbsp; “Duece” Grant, Jr. and niece Nichole (Joel) Brown and nephew, Cole Brown.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Linda Vasquez, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, beloved sister, and dear friend, who left this world on June 25, 2025, in San Jose California at the age of 72. She was the beloved daughter of Donald and Glennys Jaqua.

Born on July 26, 1952, in Alliance, Nebraska, Linda brought joy and warmth to every chapter of her life. In 1973, she made California her home, where she raised her family.

A truly social spirit, Linda had a way of making everyone feel welcome and heard. She was quick to laugh, generous with her time, and always ready to lend a hand or share a story. Whether with family, friends, or even strangers, she brought warmth and compassion into every space she entered.

She was a dedicated mother to her two children, Richard and Raquel, and the proud grandmother of four beloved grandsons: Julian, Matthew, Jacob, and Malcolm. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them.

Linda’s life was a beautiful example of love in action—through faith, family, and friendship. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched and the deep bonds she nurtured.

She is survived by her sister Carol, brother James, children Richard and Raquel, and her four grandsons, Julian, Matthew, Jacob, and Malcolm, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Linda Vasquez (1952 - 2025)

Carol Ann Bailey, 71, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones after a hard fought battle with cancer, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 in Alliance, NE.

She was born on June 26, 1953 in Crawford, NE to Harry and Karlene (Lux) Golden.

On April 9, 1977 she was united in marriage to Wayne T. Bailey in North Platte, NE.

Her survivors include her loving husband, Wayne of 48 years, her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Hannah Bailey of Alliance, her grandchildren, Violet Nelson, Jackson Bailey, Brooke Bailey and Nora Bailey, and her brother, Jerry (Candy) Golden of Crawford, and their daughter Stephanie Broderick of Chadron, her husband and her children.

Carol is also survived by her sister-in-law Beverly Bailey of Gering, her brother-in-law Danny (Terry) Bailey of Scottsbluff and numerous nieces and nephews along with great-nieces and great-nephews that Carol enjoyed following their many activities and athletics.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Karlene, her step-father Leonard Thornton, her brother-in-law Earl Bailey, sister-in-law Karen Deering, her great-niece Tiffany Welling, her nephew Bryan Bailey, and her niece Danelle Sullivan.

Carol was a devoted wife to Wayne and mother to her son Chris. She spent her free time supporting her son and his children attending numerous activities and athletic events, and scrapbooking all of their accomplishments.

Carol was a dedicated Special Education teacher for 32 years.&nbsp; Carol valued and enjoyed the relationships she made during her career in education.&nbsp;

Carol's quiet strength and welcoming personality was admired by many.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 8, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Interment in the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering will be at a later date.

Bailey in North Platte, NE.Her survivors include her loving husband, Wayne of 48 years, her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Hannah Bailey of Alliance, her grandchildren, Violet Nelson, Jackson Bailey, Brooke Bailey and Nora Bailey, and her brother, Jerry (Candy) Golden of Crawford, and their daughter Stephanie Broderick of Chadron, her husband and her children.Carol is also survived by her sister-in-law Beverly Bailey of Gering, her brother-in-law Danny (Terry) Bailey of Scottsbluff and numerous nieces and nephews along with great-nieces and great-nephews that Carol enjoyed following their many activities and athletics.She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Karlene, her step-father Leonard Thornton, her brother-in-law Earl Bailey, sister-in-law Karen Deering, her great-niece Tiffany Welling, her nephew Bryan Bailey, and her niece Danelle Sullivan.Carol was a devoted wife to Wayne and mother to her son Chris. She spent her free time supporting her son and his children attending numerous activities and athletic events, and scrapbooking all of their accomplishments.Carol was a dedicated Special Education teacher for 32 years.&nbsp; Carol valued and enjoyed the relationships she made during her career in education.&nbsp;Carol's quiet strength and welcoming personality was admired by many.Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 8, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Interment in the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering will be at a later date.

Carol Ann Bailey (1953 - 2025)

Born October 14, 1943 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Kenneth and Doris Steingraber, their first child whom they named, Sharon Lee. Known to most folks as, Sharon. Though she liked to be known more by the name, Shari. A name, perhaps reserved and spoken best by those to whom she was special.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sharon’s stay in Wisconsin was short in years, as her Dad, Ken moved first to Ogden, Utah for a brief time, where her brother, Richard joined the family. Yet another move of the young family brought them to the small community town of Sunland/Thunga in the region north of Las Angeles, California. A community in those days that had not yet begun to experience the impact of urban sprawl. Sharon adopted this community as her hometown, and the country in which she grew up through childhood as a “Little Rascal” among the neighborhood boys who were predominate at the time. Here too was the place where her sister, Carol arrived and completed the family. Though Sharon found little companionship with her sister in the early years of their lives together, as she had problems with her heart from the beginning. More often she found herself as a caregiver to her sister at the discretion of her mother.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Still, Sharon grew from a “Little Rascal” to an older “Rascal” as she become a young adult woman, and began working as life dictated. Some parts of which was very good, and other parts were not so good, but through them she gained life experience that was unique to her. Providing a foundation on which she nurtured a determination to move ahead with her life, as an&nbsp;“over-comer.”

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; February 1978, San Jose, California. Working on assignment as a Publication Coordinator to an executive group in the offices of General Electric Nuclear Division, I met Sharon for the first time. She had developed her skills as a secretary, and was serving five lead engineers, by whom she was highly respected, both as a person and in the performance of the position in which she worked. Not as a permanent employee of General Electric, but on contract to the company through a Job Shop located in the Bay Area. Previously, Sharon had worked in General Electric‘s Motor Plant, where she had gained the reputation as valued employee to the company. Even offering to mover her to their new facilities in Georgia. She chose instead to stay in San Jose, and work for General Electric as a Free-Lancer.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; March 31, 1979, Carson City, Nevada. In a simple ceremony in a small wedding chapel, we were married in the presence of her sister and her husband. The following evening, as there was a convention in town, the four of us spent the night together in the same motel room.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Over the course of our marriage, in which we embraced each other for forty-six years, Sharon proved her ability and tenacity to adapt to her environment.&nbsp; Moving away from city life, to life in the country in the northern reaches of Nevada. Most people unaccustomed to that kind of environment call it, total desolation, saying, “There‘s nothing out there!” A tremendous change for anyone, and yet she took it in stride. By that time she had declared, several times, that living with me was an adventure.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Beyond a doubt, the state of her health presented Sharon with the greatest struggles and challenges in her life. Still, from the beginning she placed herself in the Hands of the Heavenly Father. Early in our new life as husband and wife, we had determined to have a Christian foundation under our marriage, which we tried to establish on our own the first eight years.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In His time our Lord moved us to the back side of the desert in Northern Nevada. There He set about working to build His foundation under our marriage and our lives. It was not pretty nor pleasant at first, but little by little His Light and True purpose grew and molded us as it pleased Him over a period of twenty-eight years. Then He arranged for another move in our lives.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Soon after arriving in Alliance, Nebraska, His Foundation and the Faith He had grafted into us proved to be our Strong Hold, as we discovered and faced the dreaded disease, cancer, for the first time. Giving us the Peace that kept our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. Time and again, He blessed us during the course of days, months and years of her affliction. Through trials He raised us up and taught us how to walk with Him on Heavens Table Land.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Sharon was preceded in death by her Father, Kenneth and Mother, Doris Steingraber. Also, her Sister, Carol, who died from complications of the heart. A great disappointment to Sharon, as they had begun to experience the joys of life together as sisters for the first time in their lives.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sharon is survived by her brother, Richard, and a nephew. Also, a number of nieces, all who stand alone in their obscurity. Never truly coming to know the remarkable Sister/Aunt they seemingly ignored.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sharon was a great blessing to my life, especially during the hard struggles that we experienced through her battle with cancer. On the one hand, the treatments to halt the spread of the disease resulted in more problems that afflicted her heath. And I cursed them. On the other hand, our Lord was working to bring about spiritual growth and maturity in my own life. After witnessing what became a growling fourteen months of suffering for Sharon, her Heavenly Father called her home.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In reflection, I have come to see how our suffering honors the Lord, as He grounded me in His Word as the sustainer of this earthly life. For a certainly, without His Word working to strengthen me daily, I would have failed to fulfill my marriage vow,&nbsp;“Until Death, Do Us Part.”&nbsp;And coming to know and cherish the true meaning of the phrase,&nbsp;“A labor of Love.”

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; What I (Robert) have written about my Beloved Sharon is a minute sketch. A detailed story about her life would require any newspaper to print a special addition.

Memorial service for Russel Finch will be held&nbsp;Saturday, June 28 &nbsp;at 2:00 pm at Alliance St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Megan Morrow officiating.

Russel Finch 92 of Alliance passed away peacefully at his home on November 28, 2024.

Russ was born March 15, 1932 in Ord, NE to George Finch and Dorthy Weed.&nbsp; Russ graduated from Alliance High School in 1951 and was united in marriage to Darlene Mc Elheny on July 26, 1951 at Alliance.&nbsp; After marriage the couple lived in Alliance where Russ worked for Gulf Research.

In 1952 Russ was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan as a Military Policeman.&nbsp; In 1954 he returned to Alliance where he and Darlene lived for many years.

In 1956 their first child Scott was born.&nbsp; In 1957 their second child Rhonda was born.&nbsp; During this time Russ worked at Alliance Bakery and later for the U.S. Postal Service in Alliance.&nbsp; Russ also farmed north of Alliance.&nbsp; In 1968 Russ and Darlene began their own business Kidnapper Manufacturing which they managed for 31 years.

Russ always had a keen interest in gardening and new technology.&nbsp; In 1981 he built a new home using passive solar and geothermal technology.&nbsp; Heating this home for just pennies a day convinced him to start a new business.&nbsp; Greenhouse In The Snow began in 1992 selling instructions to build a greenhouse using the method he had found.&nbsp; The business grew over the years and eventually went into partnership with Allen Bright at Antioch Machine in Alliance where it continues today.

Russ enjoyed gardening in his greenhouse, traveling, spending time with his grandkids, automobiles, and of course Husker football.

He is survived by his daughter Rhonda and Carl Smith of Fairchild, WI.&nbsp; Grandchildren Trent Smith (Nichole) of Fond du Lac, WI and Tasha Newton (Kyle) of Fall Creek, WI.&nbsp; Four Great Grandchildren Claire, Leah, Oliver, and Dorthy.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his Mother Dorthy, son Scott, and wife Darlene.&nbsp;Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to the St. John’s Ministry Greenhouse 2090 Emerson Ave Alliance, NE 69301.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Russel Finch (1932 - 2025)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Myra Lynn Shepard-Sibal passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2025 at the age of 63 in Lonsdale, Arkansas.&nbsp; She was the loving wife of Doug Sibal and devoted mother to Kristen Hulshizer-Sellens, Kortney Freeman, and Nikkole Sibal. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Lynn was born on May 30, 1962 in Virginia Beach, Virginia to Johnny and Elizabeth (Tschacher) Shepard.&nbsp; After graduating from Hemingford High School, Lynn started her family and became a nurturing, loving mother to her eldest two children.&nbsp; Lynn went on and accomplished many things in life.&nbsp; Lynn became the cherished wife of Doug Sibal, with whom she shared 25 years of joyful companionship and deep love.&nbsp; Their life together was enriched by their shared passion for horses, their appreciation for the tranquility of country living, and the boundless love they had for raising their youngest child. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Lynn was a devoted member of the Catholic Church for all of her life.&nbsp; She loved her animals.&nbsp; She spent all of her free time with her dogs and horses.&nbsp; She was also passionate about arts and crafts.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crafting. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Lynn was known for her boundless compassion and unwavering love for everyone she met.&nbsp; She loved her friends and family very deeply.&nbsp; Her life was fulfilled spending time with her friends, going to horse shows, crafts or simply sitting on the porch just making conversation.&nbsp; Known for her deep love for her grandchildren, not a day went by that she did not speak of them.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Lynn is survived by her husband, Doug Sibal; her daughters Kristan (James) Hulshizer-Sellens (grandson, Kaleb Sellens), Kortney (Robert) Freeman (granddaughters Madison Hulshizer, Makenzy Hulshizer, Kajah Freeman, and Kyanna Freeman), and Nikkole Sibal; her mother, Elizabeth Moeller; and her sisters Ramona Zulaf, Tracy Navarro, Johnna (Bob) Wood, and Skye (Jay) Weeder; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She entered eternal rest with her father, Johnny Shepard; her stepfather, Joseph Moeller; her son-in-law, Preston Sellers; great grandbaby, Laraya; and her grandparents, William and Leta Shepard and Leonard and Josephine Tschacher; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford, Nebraska with Father Matt Kperski officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Hemingford Cemetery.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A wake service was held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at St. Bridget Catholic Church. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Online condolences may be left at <a href="http://www.batesgould.com">www.batesgould.com</a>, with Bates-Gould Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

 </figure>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Myra Lynn Shepard-Sibal passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2025 at the age of 63 in Lonsdale, Arkansas.&nbsp; She was the loving wife of Doug Sibal and devoted mother to Kristen Hulshizer-Sellens, Kortney Freeman, and Nikkole Sibal. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Lynn was born on May 30, 1962 in Virginia Beach, Virginia to Johnny and Elizabeth (Tschacher) Shepard.&nbsp; After graduating from Hemingford High School, Lynn started her family and became a nurturing, loving mother to her eldest two children.&nbsp; Lynn went on and accomplished many things in life.&nbsp; Lynn became the cherished wife of Doug Sibal, with whom she shared 25 years of joyful companionship and deep love.&nbsp; Their life together was enriched by their shared passion for horses, their appreciation for the tranquility of country living, and the boundless love they had for raising their youngest child. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Lynn was a devoted member of the Catholic Church for all of her life.&nbsp; She loved her animals.&nbsp; She spent all of her free time with her dogs and horses.&nbsp; She was also passionate about arts and crafts.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crafting. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Lynn was known for her boundless compassion and unwavering love for everyone she met.&nbsp; She loved her friends and family very deeply.&nbsp; Her life was fulfilled spending time with her friends, going to horse shows, crafts or simply sitting on the porch just making conversation.&nbsp; Known for her deep love for her grandchildren, not a day went by that she did not speak of them.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Lynn is survived by her husband, Doug Sibal; her daughters Kristan (James) Hulshizer-Sellens (grandson, Kaleb Sellens), Kortney (Robert) Freeman (granddaughters Madison Hulshizer, Makenzy Hulshizer, Kajah Freeman, and Kyanna Freeman), and Nikkole Sibal; her mother, Elizabeth Moeller; and her sisters Ramona Zulaf, Tracy Navarro, Johnna (Bob) Wood, and Skye (Jay) Weeder; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She entered eternal rest with her father, Johnny Shepard; her stepfather, Joseph Moeller; her son-in-law, Preston Sellers; great grandbaby, Laraya; and her grandparents, William and Leta Shepard and Leonard and Josephine Tschacher; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford, Nebraska with Father Matt Kperski officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Hemingford Cemetery.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A wake service was held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at St. Bridget Catholic Church. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Online condolences may be left at <a href="http://www.batesgould.com">www.batesgould.com</a>, with Bates-Gould Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dick Owens passed away unexpectedly at his home (Edgemont, SD) June 11, 2025. Dick truly knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive. His generosity knew no limits. Dick was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather and was known to be a beautiful soul who would help anyone. Second to his giving loving heart and raucous laugh/giggle are his jokes and storytelling. Everyone who encountered Dick walked away with a new joke or story and some were even lucky enough to walk away with a dollar bill ring. His love for the outdoors, fishing, helping his friends with anything on their ranch from electrical fixes, to cooking to auctioneering- if you needed it, Dick could do it.

Dick and sister Jo Anne rodeoed throughout high school and in 1962 he won a World Championship in Bareback Bronc Riding at the Little Britches World Championship in Littleton, CO.&nbsp; After graduating from Newcastle (WY) High School in 1968, Dick worked construction and sheep shearing before pursuing the job with Burlington Northern.&nbsp; At an early age, Dick found his voice and he continued to use his gift on stage, best known for his role in the Southern Comfort band back in the 80’s (singing, sound man, and self-taught guitarist) but was always known to sing a little ditty to a passerby. His guitar was at every get together and he’d perform any request that was made.

It's hard to believe that with all this filling up his life, Dick had a regular day job. He joined the BNSF team as a Systems Electrician in 1975 and was a dedicated employee until his retirement in December of 2011. His time as an electrician and an exempt officer was full of electrical and technical innovations especially, on the Northwest Division bridges and created the design of the exhaust system in the Cascade Tunnel. The friendships he made during this time have lasted years and he held all those coworkers near and dear to his heart.

Dick is survived by the woman he adored, Kristy Owens, who shared 49 glorious years of marriage. He is also survived by his children: Milisa (Rick) Palmer of Riverton, WY; Heath (Brooke) Owens of Alliance, NE, and Kassidy Owens of Alliance, NE. His two sisters: JoAnne Owens-Nauslar (Red) of Lincoln, NE, and Milinda (Cliff) Wineteer of Chadron, NE. He is also survived by his grandchildren Connor Lund, Hayley Owens, Rickey and Lexy Palmer and Allison, Hunter and Riley Owens.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Owens (Newcastle, WY) his father Lavern Busskohl (Custer, SD) and his brother-in-law Raymond “Red” Nauslar (Lincoln, NE).

Richard “Dick” Rischling was born March 1st, 1955, in Alma, NE to William and Maralee (Wickizer) Rischling.

He grew up surrounded by abundant family love in the form of nine sisters and two brothers along with their loving parents in Bayard, NE. He graduated from Bayard High School in 1973 and continued his education at Chadron State College where he completed his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and later earned his Master’s Degree. It was at Chadron State College where he caught the eye of his wife, Gretchen M. Todd. His humorous charm and good looks were what grabbed her attention at first, but it was ultimately his love of God that caught her heart forever. Many qualities connected the two together, but the most notable connection they shared was perhaps their faith and service to others. Dick and Gretchen married on July 29th of 1978 in Alliance, NE where they would eventually come back and make their home with their four children. He worked as a band teacher in Grant NE, Superior NE, and Ord NE before he spent 28 more years and the rest of his teaching career in Alliance until he retired in 2010.

Dick loved teaching. He believed that music had the power to make any student thrive in school and in society. The impact he made on his students will continue to live on forever. After retirement, Dick and Gretchen moved to Grand Island, NE to be close to their children and grandchildren. Dick loved his family with his whole heart. Most everything he did was in service and commitment to them and it never went unnoticed. Dick found joy in serving his family in many forms: fixing just about anything, frying chicken or making his world famous malts for his grandkids, hugging his grandchildren with his non-optional “hard” (tight squeeze) hugs, and teaching them how to paint his favorite Bob Ross paintings. He was the most amazing Husband, Father, and Grandfather to his family.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island NE.

Frank H. Johns, 64, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at his rural Hemingford, NE home.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance, NE.  Pastor Richard Mueller and Pastor Shaun Daugherty will officiate.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.  Cremation will follow the service with inurnment at a later date.

He was born on September 28, 1960 in Lincoln, NE to Frank and Norma (Karle) Johns.

On October 4, 1996 he was united in marriage to Jean M. Hruza.

The couple was able to pursue a longtime dream of owning their own ranch when they purchased land west of Hemingford and moved here in January, 2000.&nbsp; Frank was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, Adam Johns of Hugo, OK and Kelli Britten of Lincoln, NE and his sister &amp; brother-in-law, David and Deb Johns Skomer of Lincoln.&nbsp; He is also survived by his wife’s brothers and sisters, Dan and Tammy Hruza of Burwell, Wayne and Christy Hruza of Ord, and Nancy and Keith Andersen of Adams, NE; nephews and nieces Patrick (Molly) and Michael (Kaylee) Skomer, Anthony Hruza, Sarah (Mike) Esterling, Trisha, Tracy (Jason), and Travis (Darian) Dahlke, Kristen (Brian) Seltzer, and Keri Andersen, and 12 great-nephews/nieces.&nbsp; His parents and his sister, Cindy Johns preceded him in death.

Frank H. Johns (1960 - 2025)

Leslie Cameron, 68, died on May 30, 2025 in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Jean (Wallace) Cameron and John H. Cameron.&nbsp; Born in the Cleveland suburbs, she grew up in Willowick, OH and Barrington, IL.&nbsp; She spent her young adult years in Gardner, MT, working at Yellowstone National Park.&nbsp; She moved to Portland, ME area in the late 1980’s, living in Portland, Saco and Biddeford.&nbsp; While working as a buyer at Vessel Services, she met her ex-husband Bruce Harvey, a commercial fisherman.&nbsp; Their daughter Alison was born in 1995 and was the light of Leslie’s life.&nbsp;

Leslie channeled her best impulses into supporting Alison as a creative and aware person.&nbsp; An avid reader, Leslie taught Alison to read at a young age.&nbsp; Leslie lived with a sense of wonder at the natural world, imparting a love of animals and nurturing Alison’s budding artistic talents.&nbsp; During Alison’s school years, when Ali lived in Rhode Island, they met for visits in Massachusetts with the family of Leslie’s brother, John frequenting the zoo and science museum.&nbsp;

Leslie moved to Alliance in 2014, to be near her sister Anne and their widowed mother.&nbsp;

Leslie is survived by her daughter Alison Jean Harvey (partnered with Joseph Pelletier III) of Coventry, RI; brothers, John Cameron (Naomi) of Wellesley, MA; David Cameron (Donna) of Grays Lake, IL, and her sister, Anne Henderson-Weare (Leroy Weare) of Alliance, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and John Cameron.

He married Karolyn Heinemann of Scottsbluff, Nebraska on April 25, 1998 and they enjoyed 27 years of marriage.Doug enjoyed deer hunting with Karolyn and his sons and friends. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing (Dale Earnhardt Sr. was his favorite), races at the area racetracks and spending time with friends and family. He mostly enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Karolyn, and his kids and grandkids.He is survived by his wife Karolyn of Lincoln; his children Shaun (Kristina) Taylor of Lincoln NE, Levi (Kelly) Taylor of Elgin ND, Cody (Kaitlyn) Taylor of Gering NE, and Brianna Taylor of Alliance NE; his grandchildren Gabby, Daceson, Savannah, Dustin, Janessa, Rylan, Jameson, Braxton, Audrey, Kayson, Paisley and Raylan. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn (Jim) Steggall of Alliance NE and nephews Jay and Matthew both of Alliance, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;A memorial has been established for the family.
